I still remember the commercial when these came out. Shipping a GT500, in that color scheme, to Germany. And the guy at the docks says "you couldn't find a car you liked in Germany?"

Mine hit 192mph in 5th gear, didn’t have enough road to run out 6th but I’m thinking somewhere near 220 plus
It's pretty rare to find videos of this model year doing a top speed.
Seems like electronic limit no? There’s no way 500hp only gets you to 160 mph. Should be capable of at least 180~ with decent aero? Idk
because these pos things are death traps above 90mph.
1970 's suspension makes them deadly.

The speedometer is like a car with a small engine, but it turns surprisingly well, a beastly cubature👍😀

Well, actually small engines can't reach 260. And even when this is a 5.4 supercharged, the top speed is very accurate.
@@elgranfreezer9117 correct, as i said with tune, but with a similar acceleration and a different gear ratio, with slight modifications out of engine, it would increase over the speed limiter

I’n my 07 I hit 192mph in 5th gear. Plenty more if I could hit 6th.
@@vagscanetprogramation7239 nope, 5th gear. He started in 5th for the top speed run because these transmissions almost refuse to shift from 4-5 if you're redlining it, because it's an overdrive.

Same engine in the first gen ford gt, but detuned of course. What a beast.
Differences. The Ford GT was an aluminum block with dry sump oiling, had a Lysholm twin screw, and possibly the cams were different. Ford GT500 had a cast iron block until 2012, a smaller displacement roots blower and wet sump oiling. But even with those differences, the Ford GT500 was only 50 hp away from the GT, until 2010, it was 540, and then 2011 and 2012 got 550 like the GT. All due to an open element air filter and tuning.

I'm all for Ferrari V12, various German V10s etc but I think my favourite car sound has to be a well sorted American style V8. Other than maybe the Alfa Romeo Busso engine but then again I'm bias as I own one!

The speedo is very optimistic
10 extra km/h at 150 and a little under 15 at 250 isn't uncommon, if you watch other videos on this channel you'll notice that most cars overstate speed.
Not sure whether it's on purpose or not, but it would make sense to do it in order to keep you out of trouble. Police radars have an error rate too, so if the car's going a bit under what the speedometer shows there's less of a chance you fall victim to that error.
These cars were painfully slow considering a boosted 5.4L could only muster a 114 mph trap.

Handles like crap,barely no traction off the line but good lord that is a sexy car.
These had the live rear axle suspension which made it hard to put the power when cornering. The new Shelby GT500 is a track oriented car with a independent rear suspension now. The new Shelby GT500 has a dual clutch transmission and does 10.5s and 10.6s in the quarter mile.
