Can't thank you enough I'm 39 so these were my high school and college years. Brilliant stuff my phriend. From papyrus, timber, old runaway's, many variations of ghost and gin. Thank you🙏 stuff you don't hear anymore back when opener gave away what we were in for or sometimes tip of iceberg
Thank you!
Used to love winter time Phish. It was always so cozy in the arena.
Does one ever stop loving wintertime phish??
Phish shows can be judged by many different metrics. Not all Phish shows are created equal. This particular evening was a miraculous manifestation of the highest level of technical precision the band may have ever reached in their career. Truly inspiring music was played on this night. How wonderful that this most righteous concert is now available for public viewing. May the Lord Jesus Christ be praised.
I agree, apart from virtuoso classical pianists musicians, your getting different stuff. I remember 11/27/98 worcester wipeout show it was literally ludicrous it was so skilled as a jazz fan but the fun and creativity of floyd/circus lol. One of greatest musical experiences of my life. Encore was rough but they left it on the stage just weekapaug. As far as their technical peak I still swear sessions at west 54th street is untouchable. All versions of ghost, guyute, were so good and technically brilliant ghost Trey looks at Mike and just shrugs like wow that worked. To take requests and taste on top of it played at that level no lights naked just audible bliss really felt like jazz cafe calling out standards. Just brilliant but I agree entirely with your premise
Praise Him indeed!!!
ok but cant we just leave gods out of it?
A blessing! A blessing from the lord!
God be praised!
@@TeamGlasshole why leave God out of it? Dosing at Phish show was one of the best places to realize God.
And he didn't say anything like"unbelievers are going to hell" or anything dumb and crazy like that.
Lord Shiva be praised
I sat directly behind the stage for these two shows. Happy to find this one.
This was one of my favorite tapes I traded for. Most of what I had was 1990 -95. So I was on the hunt for those heady new current shows. I was at the Lemon Wheel. I had dubbed my tape collection three times over so I had a lot to trade. Ended up amassing a huge tape collection from all the trading I did at the lemon wheel. Knickerbocker was always one of my favorites. I even got some really killer hash plant that I traded for at the lemon wheel. Truly an amazing weekend I will never forget. Well just one of many and I mean many amazing experiences with this band. If you traded tapes with a guy a the wheel that has a big backpack just crammed with Maxwell tapes. With nice printed covers. (definitely helped in the trades they looked really good). Then you traded with me. Still have my take collection I love it to death. I made a lot of friends that weekend. Some I still talk to today. Got a lot of phone numbers that weekend and continue to trade with a good amount of the people I traded with at the show. Even made two really good taper connections. I was able to get current shows from the current tour very quickly after the wheel. Best decision I ever made was sitting there for 2 weeks while almost 3 weeks dubbing my whole collection. Because we had to detect the tape back in the day It took a while. You also listen to most of them while you did it. I really miss the tape trading culture. I miss snail mail tape trees. When a new run of tapes would come in it was always like Christmas and I knew it was time to sit down and really listen to them good dubbed them and send them off to the next person on the list along with a couple extras. It was kind of a pyramid scheme but it worked out for everybody.
“Kind of a pyramid scheme but it worked out for everyone” 😂😂
thank you sooooo much heady tape trader guy!!! I wanna say I bumped into you back in the day fo sure:)))) all your lengthy words and observations I co-sign hundred percent!!! tapes were gold!!! gold, jerry, I tell you--GOLD!!!
Was in the house for this barn burner. As much as the funk and space jams dominated the 97 runs, there is something so satisfying and mind melting about a 97 type I "Taste" rager.
hellz yeah. facts
Oh man that segue into 2001 was so smooth it took me like 2 minutes to realize that they were play it. They just fell into it.
When the cameraman focuses on Treys hand during Antelope. Bliss Status Attainment.
Was there. Verrry heady atmosphere that night. Greatest encore ever.
The crowd sounds way into it! 97 was one of my fav years in Phistory for the funk.
Valuanteer
You can hear the crowd going crazy at lighting changes.. This was groundbreaking then. I work in this field.. It's truly amazing to see this. CK5 is a god, as is phish, and this is really truly special special gem.
FF to 8 mins and watch the crowd react. even a minute before that too.... really cool.
The old Altatars were PURE magic
I don’t know anything about lighting, but I actually think their lights were better then than they are now. I miss this setup
@@hlf_coder6272I wouldn’t say “better”, but there is something undeniably badass about this light rig and concept, and lit candles all over stage, and Pepe Le Pew and Jah Volunteer t-shirts, and the middle of the run that this band was on at this point.
The lighting in 97 was so pretty. Chris was putting together some really great color combos
facts
It was the perfect fall tour. You can’t touch it.
And always symmetrical...until the new moving rig that goes way unsymmetrical sometimes
5th member of the band
"200" Had bombastic lights!! i was sold on watching the rest of the show from that point on
guyute antelope encore was bananas, just on principle
guyutantelopanas
fukin totally! i was so fukin lucky-was at this show. on the floor. sick show. sick crowd/energy/lot scene. 97 was bonkers
I remember it fondly... and quite vividly too. I was in awe
@@fivespeed42 fuk yeah 5speed. and godspeed to u and yours--the decades are flyin by!!!
the antelope encore at hollywood bowl last year was sick too. or maybe two years ago now, can’t remember
Damn! They came to play. You know it’s on when the opener smokes.
Man the snow , the parking garage lot and a camel walk this was a good night !
Man !
God !
Dear god. The Pharchive! You rock!
That cK5 light show is incredible!
I love this camera operator. Thanks for posting! Crazy to relive this one. I was 19. My mom came the next night for her one and only show, lol.
Too much Trey!
Omnipresent! Switches are ahead of his time. Would take 5 people to pull this off nowadays
Thanks, I was the one who recorded this video! Was in the last row of upper level. Looking forward to the shows in October!
my 11th birthday and i'm from Albany. FIRE SHOW!
That Character Zero set end though! Bop bop! 🤯😜💥
Phish is one of the best bands of all time without question. But man… they were a completely different band in the 90’s compared to today. It’s like night and day honestly.
I was at shows in the 90s and I disagree with your night and day sentiment. They're absolutely the same band. Just with 20+ more years experience under their belt.
They were WAAAY better in the 90s and early 2000s in my opinion. Its not even close .
New favorite channel. Keep posting. I'm sharing.
I was there, saw it again melted my face and piper wiped it clean. thanks spanky for letting me crash at your dorm
Ahhh I had this on VHS for the longest time. My 1st show was the next night, the Fall tour closer. Albany is a special place to see Phish for me. I love how they always throw it down in that room.
i didnt get to go to this one but i went to 12/5/6/7. Went to Albany in 99 and they definitely tore it up again
Same, bro. Same
Man- All I can say is thank you CK5 for your wizardry. This is killer!
I've been a deep phishhead since 11-21-95... and up until now hearing this Tweezer Reprise, I don't think I've ever realized/admitted/acknowledged that Page's organ might possibly be more responsible for my infatuation over the years than Trey's guitar. And, I can't believe I said that, but it might be true.
I love Paige
I was there for both nights. This was my freshman year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The first night I split an 1/8 of mushrooms with a cute Asian girl that was in my dorm. I forgot her name. We danced our asses off. I slept on the sidewalk between the concerts. I was very cold. Second night I met up with some hockey friends but lost them at the end. I had to walk back to Troy, New York from Albany, NY about 15 miles.
Brutal walk esp in the winter
@@mattb.8750 Absolutely, it was cold. It was colder “sleeping” on the side walk. The stuff we do when we are 19-20 years old is crazy. I remember stopping at a McDonald’s and Sage College to warm up.
@@Eric06410 Ha, yup. Grew up in Albany area and attended these shows as a Sr in high school. Was just saying the same thing to someone at work - things done during that era. So glad this vid is up.
This was also my freshman year at RPI, and I was at both shows too, with friends from RPI and Siena. Great pair of shows for sure. What dorm? I lived in Crockett. Luckily I didn't have to walk back - that sounds pretty brutal.
@@chrismeder1 Burdett first floor in the corner.
This show and the next night were my first two Phish shows. My cousins got me tickets for my 16th birthday. It was life changing to say the least. I’m so thankful both are posted.
I was there and so happy then and know. What an amazing experience
You are doing God's work. Thank you.
Thanks again for this! 12/12/97! Today is my 27th Phishersary!!! 🎉 ❤
was at the back of the floor-there was plenty of room to boogie, too-at the start of this show-one of my favoritest first set opening sequences eva, that i was a part of:)
ty kindly pharchive-peace and health to u and urs
Always love when it starts with a second set 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much for all that you are doing.
Req: If you have the next night, 12/13/97 on hand, please consider sharing. That show is very important to me.

Language Strange 😊
Kickin' Tweezer jam
My favorite indoor (arena) venue outside of MSG. They seemed to always throw down in Albany. Besides, on this very night, the 2001 taught me how to ~really ~ dance. I had never let loose like that before. It changed my life
Now with the Antelope on video!
This run was fun as nuts. Haven't listed to it since... Thanks you!
My bday show! Good times were had!
24 years ago, my first!
My first show! ❤️
Meghan Califano me too!
the next night was mine
Mine too!!!
I've had this vhs probably since 98 and repeat watching once in a while
2nd set is impecable especially the jams and jams that become soft and swept away >etc

Holy crap a video of my first show!

Tee Shirts 👕 rocked 97
buried alive lick in antelope is slick
Marco 😊
Caspian>Izabella is one of the most underrated jams of this tour.
The good 'ole days
My god, fall 97 was so good. Who's got the Dayton show.
Jason McDaniel John popper was 96
@@ML-ib3oq wow he looked great for a 96 year old
Mike Bray 1996 popper performed with them not 1997 🤷🏻
Whoever has that Dayton show is sitting on a treasure. Put that shit in the national archives. I know Phish has a pro shot from Kuroda's board, but if/when we will ever see it is a great mystery...
@@tomjoad3868 I remember walking up the bowl from the floor during the beginning of ADITL encore. Some dude said something like, why you leaving. My face melted off, I said, nothing left to see.
👏 👏 👏 👏
All this stuff Change overs. Pace. So much of todays festival music is this. And we had no idea.
Page piano in taste. Wowsers
look at mike and those acid washed jeans, and i dont even know wat color-banana?-fukin shirt. dat dude was, is, and always will be…hilarious-ty gordo:)))
All of my gay, non phan friends have ALOT to say about Mikes wardrobe😂😂
Awesomeeeenesssszz
Only wish the Hood from the other night of this stop was on video The best truest glow stick war ever hands down
Woo!
They had an opening act for this show? I never saw a show of theirs with an opening act. Though I always remember how there was a rumor Jamariqui was gonna open up in Cleveland 12/5/97
Leading us to Reason ….
Burry me inside a ‘97 tweezer jam 47:35

2001 always a heater! CK5 givin us a show too!!
Yeah, that was pretty much my feeling when I was there. Blew my mind. Still does...
@@robqueen2696 still does, just saw the new led's in Chula Vista...fiiyyaa
On this night, this very 2001 taught me how to ~really~ dance. There was no lookin back from here
LOL mike is so fired up.
2 nd set
Phish's best show.
SWEATY ❤️🔥🤩💥🔥
Manages to Hypnotize😊
Antelope horn’s
Trey wastes no time turning on the loop!
Anybody notice the prophetic "birds of a feather" tease during Piper?
I always wonder...is this one of the shows where Trey tore abandoned any setlist plans, or was this the plan? Or something in-between?
Caspian….
Peak Ernest '95 - '00.
Ja Volateer
Fuckin' sick Tweezer
CY MI SUS
Did Trey wear that shirt every night of the tour?
Also, is Camel Walk the dirtiest funkiest song ever created? I have reason to believe lol
I hope Trey at least washed his clothes from the night before.
Misspelled
Swept 🧹 Away …
whatever it takes
Izabella
that character zero tho..

And other years hahaha
