    You and Storny will trauma bond over the class 2 fun of hunting the slopes and cliffs next time. Good work will her. I have an 8 month old vizsla, and we're learning this stuff together. She's a natural! I, on the other hand, am in need of some practice and instruction. Glad to find your channel!!!🎉

      I get that we don't need to give out GPS coordinates to our spots, and I don't. But it never hurt anyone to share some broader details...such as Northeastern Oregon along the Snake River, or Southeastern Washington etc. Such comments encompass litterally millions of acres and have no chance of spoiling our favorite spots, and actually enourage fellow hunters. We hunters need to stick together, and help others find success in this passion of ours, not hide our cards so close to our chest. It's not like these details are connected to national security, and besides it's never hunting pressure that impacts Chukar populations....almost entirely weather related (according to an Oregon Department of Fish and Game wildlife biologist...and chukar hunter). Good luck everyone, and have fun. I'll be with my son and our 3 pointing bird dogs near Richland, Oregon this weekend. P.S. I never miss one of Eric's videos. Very well done.

    I love it! My flat-lander Brits would do great there. It's one of the main things that's kept me from doing a chukar hunt. I'd be deathly afraid that my dogs would run off the cliff. It would be hard to enjoy myself to the fullest with that constantly in my brain.

    I have never been quite that fortunate to find so many chukar on flat ground. I have occasionally caught them in the flats while getting water in the early season. Also, Stormy hunts a lot like my Brittany, Thor. He stays close, and that's a good thing when you are dealing with chukar that have been hunted a lot.

    Eric, in a perfect world we'd wait til we had a little green up to pull the canyon birds up and over onto the flats...........Started chasin them in the 80's that way. My gosh we used to have fun moving many, many coveys. Was so good some years we'd only shoot one bird b per covey! You could be walking some of the ground I/we used to hunt in this video. The advent of the ATV changed things quite a bit tho. ATV tracks right along the rims from knotheads made things different in the late 90's on.

    • @Intermtn9736
      @Intermtn9736 Місяць тому +2

      6 are defacto standard. 5s late season or if you have a 12ga are unequivocal killers. 7.5 only early season if you have a pointing dog.
      Shot hardness important. Most important of all is patterning your gun at actual ranges you hunt to figure out what loads it likes. That will kill faaaaaar more birds than “the right size pellet” or “super high speed diamond plated killer special loads”

    I just don't know how to feel about self promoting hunting videos on wildlife. I almost thought this was in my state, then realized thankfully it's not. The hunting pressure is unreal in my stomping grounds, where i grew up. From Boise to Hells Canyon is tough , the birds have been hunted relentlessly come late season. Once someone calls out the location here its all over. (Easy flat land hunting) The flush tv is very egregious of hot-spotting and selling out the uplands.
