    As always a great video! It always brings me a smile when you get all giddy for birds! Glad to know it doesn't get old, even when you see/shoot as many birds as you do.

    You always have the best upland videos, Eric. And with Tom joining you it makes it even better. You are amazing at finding new territory to hunt. I always appreciate you taking the time to make the videos. Dogs are awesome. Good job training.

    Awesome seeing the pup Bean hunt and show her natural instincts!! I got my first GWP this October and she is 8 months old. Her first Chukar season has been awesome. It has been life changing season getting a pup and watching her learn and grow!!!

    Great video as usual. What is your chosen shot size for quail? I like heavy field load #8 shot to get lots of pellets downrange.

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  17 днів тому +1

      7.5 or 8. I agree 8’s make better sense but I don’t really have any evidence. I need to pattern them.

    Awesome hunt! My fiancé and I love watching your videos together. We're getting our first hunting puppy end of summer! What do you run for a collar, receiver, and watch?

    • @ericforrester1

      I run Garmin Alpha 300, tt25, and Instinct. Congrats on the puppy!

    • @WhiskeyNGuns
      @WhiskeyNGuns 17 днів тому

      @ericforrester1 Thanks! Do you use the topo maps and hunt features other than the dog tracking on your Instinct? Wondering if it's worth the upgrade to the Fenix for better map detail

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  17 днів тому +1

      I’m not familiar with the fenix. The instinct only shows direction and distance which is all I need. If I want to see the map I look at the handheld.

    Also are those do it yourself tube boots on your dogs? Can you take close up pics of how you do that. I have tried but can't keep them on the dog.

    • @ericforrester1

      There are some really good videos out there, search for inner tube dog boots.

    Hey Eric I have a question about how you shoot. When shooting a bird do you focus more on the bird or your bead? As well as do you shoot with both eyes opened or one eye closed? I’m interested and determined to become a better shot for myself. I’m not that bad but I’m not as good as I’d like to be.

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  15 днів тому +1

      You should focus on the bird with both eyes open. I’m cross eye dominant though so on some shots I have to wink my left eye a bit.

  • @masterclassanonymous1292

    Thank you for sharing. Game hawk though. 12 gauge shooting high brass Winchester super sport = killing more than 1 bird per shot. Game hawk. Grab a 20 or 28 gauge next time maybe.

  • @markphinney3152
    @markphinney3152 17 днів тому +1

    If the hawks were truly massacring the quail, you wouldn't have seen nearly that many bobs! The hawks are just responding to a bumper crop of prey... Just like a big year for voles or rabbits/hares: when food is abundant, the predators will take advantage. Great video & dog work as always!

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  17 днів тому

      I agree it was just predators taking advantage and massacring might be a too strong a word, but there were a shocking amount of hawks going after the quail. We saw multiple hawk-quail encounters everyday. We even started using hawks as a scouting tool.

    Your dogs are NOT steady and they are “out of control”
    They are good dogs but you’re letting them down.
    If they were steady to “flush and shot” your hunting would be MUCH better.
    Dogs that break like that you will shoot them eventually.
    Be careful
