I sometimes forget just how fun Rancid bass lines can be, Matt Freeman goes absolutely fucking ham on it and I love it
Freeman's 8th note runs, where he strums every note twice, are found in several songs, including this one and Olympia, WA, and is actually part of a punk bass tradition that goes all the way back at least to Paul Simonon and the earliest The Clash records. He downpicks this one, although funnily enough, I believe these runs sound just as good alternate picked. You just want to try to keep the upstrokes consistent with the downstrokes, doing your best to make them sound indistinguishable.

Oh this was a fun one to watch! What a cool bass line and I love that mix of the walking line and the 8th notes. And of course, I enjoy your notations and love how you explain the bass line, and not just play it. For me, I always want to know why a bass line works, not just how to play it.
