This is the problem I’m encountering everyone is like model it and I can’t because the clothes are too small and i think that’s the reason they’re not selling ☹️
I would say to ask a friend and if they model for you a lot you can pay them a small amount if you can for their time or buy treat them to something for what they did
Hey! wanted to send a tip in for mailing over 1lb clothing pieces; USPS has a flat rate priority padded envelope that's around ~$7 and is 9"x12" (I think?). You have to order them on the usps website, but priority shipping materials is shipped to your home for free (you just have to make a usps account)!

Not even a Salvation Army? I live in Singapore and we have Salvation Army thrift stores but everything in it is shit. Like I’m not about to buy some gaudy 80s prom dress no matter how cheap it is
I hope you will consider looking into Goodwill's business practices. Although they are technically a non-profit, I would not call them a good or charitable organization, given their use of the subminimum wage program for their disabled employees. I just wanted to throw this out there because I thought they were a good organization until a few years ago. Loved this video though!
It can be difficult though. Ive resorted to shopping at Salvation Army and Value Village ( A for profit company that pretends to be a non profit in canada) because that way I avoid sweat shops/child labour and the water/polution that is required for new clothing. Its hard, but sometimes you have to pick your battles with clothes.
Ooh, another question: How many items do you like to keep stocked before your place becomes a home of hoarded things that haven't sold 😐 ? I want to start reselling again but I have so much. do you have like, a magic number?
I didn't know that you did editing for the Sorry Girls!! I've been following their channel for a while now and just found you, and then I found out that you guys know each other! That's so cool!!
Another clothing app is Vinted, that's where I sell my clothes. They use to take off fees but now they don't, & shipping selection is similar to Depop's. It's less brand focused than Poshmark, but it doesn't have as many users as Depop. But I think it's another great app to start out with!
Also, what are your opinions on consignment stores/ resale shops like Plato’s closet? Do you ever shop at those stores or buy things to resell from them?
A 23 minute long video, girl you’re spoiling us! Love it 💕💕 the level of useful details and business tips you shared are absolutely spectacular. Thanks Ashleigh!
guys please beware about buying clothes from Instagram!!! i once got scammed out of $65! please make sure that the account is legit. when i bought from that person, there were a lot of warnings from her account but ignored it bcuz the brandy clothes were really cheap. be careful!
I have a thrift store that is a 15 min walk from me. I'm a pro thrifter, I stopped because I was learning about minimalism and only buying what I need. So, I think this is the right side hussle for me. I have dresses for low as 90 cents. The good thing about the thrift store by my house is that the workers there don't know brands very well. They would put Forever 21 in the white tag (nicer, pricier clothing) while putting some name brands in the regular price area. They also have half off day sales and everyday 3 color tags are half off. I have gotten J Crew for 2 dollars. Thank you for this video, Ashley!
This was so informational, helpful, and intentional! Thanks so much for making it! So I live in a city and I've dealt with bedbugs 3 times. I now heat dry everything I ever get from a thrift store for 30 minutes on high before I bring it into my house. This is always the number one question I have for thrifting resellers. Especially since you live in LA, do you ever worry about getting bedbugs from going to thrift stores so much? And what do you do about washing clothes before you sell them? Especially for items like silk and leather - do you pay to dry clean them?
@@alishacrswartz how about leaving them outside and let the sun do its work? however, if you intend to do so, turn the clothes inside out so that their pattern or color is protected
The heat kills bed bugs and their eggs. So, you have few options. If it is summer time or live you in a warm place, you can put the clothing in a black garbage bag and leave it out on the sun for couple of days. You can put it in the wash and then dry it in the dryer. Or just dry it but I find this damages clothes. Or you can steam the clothing. If you are dealing with frequent bedbug infestations, you can use diatomaceous earth as a preventive measure and apply it in the corners around baseboards. Be careful as a little goes a long way and also be careful where you apply if you have pets. This is not a chemical but it is a powder that can mechanically damage tissue if it gets in the lungs. Please look it up some more. Good luck!
I would also say don't completely discredit small thrift stores either, even ones in crappy areas. Obviously use your best judgement, but I've found all kinds of nice/vintage pieces at places you would never expect. So don't always judge a book by its cover!
Ahhhh you're from Maryland! Me too! My local thrift store is called Unique and I have found some good finds. Can you do a video one day about you going back to Maryland for a week? I would really love that and I love your style!
I read a comment somewhere saying "thrifting is my therapy" (same girl, same) - Ashley, how do you prevent something you enjoy from becoming something you loathe because you're making your pass time into a chore/job?
This is great! I'm looking to start my own business of reselling thrifted items and this is 23 minute, very helpful video for how to do it. You're one of my thrifting inspirations, thank you.
I started a virtual thrift store on Instagram and I love it! I called it girlwho_thrifts and I think the hardest part is gaining ENGAGED followers. Not just bots or spam accounts, other than that I’ve really enjoyed and think I just have to stick it thru 😁
I’ve been wanting to do this since forever, more because I’m tired of my clothing but I want to save money for college by doing this instead of working part time. Thank you for the tips.
Girl this was very informative. Thanks so much!!! This was a lot of help for me. And I think you are doing a great job! Way more informative then other videos I’ve watched to start an online business. Keep up the hard work! And stop second guessing yourself!!! You’re a boss!!!!!
I’m trying this as a teen needing some cash! I have a few years before college and I would love to start saving. All your points are amazing! This is so helpful. Tysm:)))
I love consignment stores. I've only been to one. But I got Marc Jacobs shoes for $ 5.00 dollars. They had these deal of buying 3 pair of shoes for $ 15. I didn't matter what brand they were from. I would never in my life be able to afford Marc Jacobs at full price.
@@bestdressed i bet rent in LA for an apartment like that is $2100-$3200? bet you have to sell a TON of clothes being the margins are crappy with all those fees amirite?
I love your style but, i stayed because of your personality. I don't know, I just feel like you are super honest on all your videos. And to everyone criticizing how you speak so fast. I think they are just haters, because the way you talk entertains me. ( a lot of people maybe) I love how you are bubbly and energetic. I love that! 😊 Maybe that's your asset than other youtubers/ vloggers, you could be a host because you talked so good. So rock it girl keep slaying!!!! ❤❤❤
You probably wont see this comment, but I'm really intrested in trying to start my own business like this. It sounds like so much fun. Could you do a video about the specific qualities you look for in clothes and what brands? Im having trouble envisioning what i can make work and sell for profit.
I’m so excited to try starting this :) just bought two more things from your website because I saw you updated and I was like omg lemme snag before someone else does 😂 but it also inspired me to try thrifting and reselling, I’m close to nyc so I’m hoping it works out
Is it only me that lives in Australia where ‘thrift stores’ are called op shops short for opportunity shops but still calls them thrift stores because I always here Americans say it. No. Just me. Ok
Me and a friend want to start selling secondhand and vintage pieces through instagram and your tips on modifications and packaging really help us develop a strategy❤
thanks so much for making this video. it was super helpful and informative for me since i have been wanting to resell clothes for the longest time but never knew how to start. and also i love your content!! keep up the hard work 💗
how are shipping rates so low in the states??? in canada they calculate based on distance and weight :( not fair at all, prices are no lower than 12 cad
Reusing packaging boxes etc is way more sustainable and zero waste! The plastic bags you bought probably aren't recyclable or only recyclable about once... as someone who shops second hand to reduce environmental impact, I'd hate if someone sent me something in an unsustainable package
Its good to make a business especially if its to help support yourself. On the other hand remember that thrift stores are a necessary resource for people who can't afford new clothes. The 90% of clothing that aren't sold are not the cute clothes you're buying but the less desirable options that a lot of poorer people are stuck with after people take all the good clothes for the thrift trend. But realistically if you didn't take that cute dress some other hipster would anyway.
Last night I came across this video and found it super helpful+motivating!! So this morning I started with a pair of jeans that were no longer part of my style- using your tips I took photos wearing them and measured the waist/inseam etc. and uploaded them. Now this evening I checked ebay and there was a customer question about the jeans, but I couldnt believe it-- some creep actually contacted me from my jeans listing asking if I'd be willing to sell him "pre-owned" PANTIES !!!!!!! :( I feel so bad ..has this ever happened to anyone else ? :( :(
dUDE this literally has happened to me in my early days of youtube :( it made me super uncomfortable i’m so sorry it happened to you too but just block that creep and keep doing what you’re doing!!
I'd love to resell vintage clothes since I love going to flea markets and thrift stores but being a poor ass myself I know that some people can afford second handy only and I would feel like snatching the good pieces from under their noses and "the poor ones" have to suffer from having to dress like an ugly potato because I was selfish and greedy...please someone stop my empathy so I can focus on myself once and won't be a poor piece of poop anymore...one day TT_TT Seeing that a good human like you do this reselling as well kinda changed my mind about this whole thing. If you beautiful soul do it, I'm no selfish asshole either if I do it I guess ^o^''
I absolutely love this video! You’re are so helpful and you know your way around. You explain everything so perfectly and your tone is just so perfect I didn’t have to pause and go back to a certain section. It’s so hard now to find a UA-camr that goes right to the point. Thank you!
Yoooo u should see if there’s a St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store around you cuz they have super good items :) I work at one and I really prefer it over goodwill anytime
I’m just trying to sell some of my clothes that i can’t fit anymore on depop. The biggest recommendation I get is to model it but the clothes I’m selling are too small for me do you have any tips on how to make them sell? I’m @lizardandsadie on depop
Have you ever heard of Grailed and Heroin? Great for more trendy/Hypebeast items but lots of great vintage things as well! And you can negotiate prices easily which is great for the buyer
All I'm saying is... get your money gurl. Own business, sponsors, the lot... you DESERVE IT. Your lookbooks are some of my favourites and you are SO good at explaining everything, and you're so relatable as well because you're young and of the current generation... yet you appeal to older people as well! So so pleased to see things working out for you!!!
I’ve spent the past 2-3 days watching basically all of your videos, so I’m taking the leap to subscribe. I love this channel because it gives me major girlboss vibes. Since the show was cancelled I needed something to fill the void lol
Ugh I really want to sell vintage lingerie but I also obtained a degree in a field that would require me to work for the government or a school. If the vintage lingerie doesn’t sell, I’ll have dozens of risky photos of myself splattered all over the internet and probably won’t be hired by schools/the govt. Idk what to do lol.
This is an excellent video! Thank you so much for your knowledge and generosity! (By the way, don't be so hard on yourself! You are Fabulous dahling!!! ;) )
I LOVE estate sales. I go to one every weekend. I had only been focused on home decor but lately I have been looking at the clothes. I have gotten some cute clothes and jewelry.
Thank you so much for this video ! Your channel is worth every second of time I spend here . Love love love, all the way from India ❤ also love your sense of humour

Do you feel weird about being part English and living in N.America? I do. I grew up in Canada, but we were far more a UK culture than we are now. I grew up with a certain admiration of English culture fused directly to my own. Our government is basically the same, Queen Elizabeth is still our Queen. She was on almost all of our money. We sang God Save the Queen in classrooms, there was a picture of the Queen in every classroom. You'd see the British flag alongside the Canadian one, our laws are incredibly similar. Even our accent was more English then "N.American", I was a British subject....And there was this huge disconnect and disassociation that really threw my cultural identity out the window.....Idk. it's just weird. Do you ever experience that? A disassociation to a cultural identity?....It feels really weird to talk about lol! May be it's because I now live in the most American like province of all the provinces in Canada. Idk.
Girl. You can try FedEx as well for shipping. They don’t have a consistent flat rate option like the post office, but the Express Saver rate for their white packaging is actually not bad. Like UPS it depends on where it’s going to and the weight, but the boxes and poly paks are free and it’s 3 day shipping every time. If you use a FedEx shipping account over time you start saving money too. Still not as cheap as the post office for single tops or items under a pound, but for medium or large items that fit in their white packaging it’s worth checking! Love your channel!
I have no intention of setting up any such business but I watched the whole vid coz you're my fav

The hardest part is selling clothes that don't fit you. You can't model it, or when they don't sell, you are stuck with too big/too small clothes. :(
You can use a mannequin maybe.

I like you so much so I decided to watch all your videos and you are so cool and funny in all the videos ❤️❤️
how are shipping rates so low in the states??? in canada they calculate based on distance and weight :( not fair at all, prices are no lower than 12 cad
Loveee the plants 💐💐💐 and I love your voice jeezz
Flea markets are really great! If anyone lives on the east coast, the Elephants Trunk is awesome and it’s going on this summer!
Am I the only person who puts the speed down to 75%? The speed of the dialogue is so impressive, how does she do that???
I'd love to resell vintage clothes since I love going to flea markets and thrift stores but being a poor ass myself I know that some people can afford second handy only and I would feel like snatching the good pieces from under their noses and "the poor ones" have to suffer from having to dress like an ugly potato because I was selfish and greedy...please someone stop my empathy so I can focus on myself once and won't be a poor piece of poop anymore...one day TT_TT
Seeing that a good human like you do this reselling as well kinda changed my mind about this whole thing. If you beautiful soul do it, I'm no selfish asshole either if I do it I guess ^o^''
super helpful video! tysm!
Hell yeah, I hit up my local one n the weekly. But that might just be the catholic in me, also there's no goodwill in my country
And you can negotiate prices easily which is great for the buyer
i love this video ashley !! do you plan on doing a tour sometime of your new apartment?
All I'm saying is... get your money gurl. Own business, sponsors, the lot... you DESERVE IT. Your lookbooks are some of my favourites and you are SO good at explaining everything, and you're so relatable as well because you're young and of the current generation... yet you appeal to older people as well! So so pleased to see things working out for you!!!
I’ve spent the past 2-3 days watching basically all of your videos, so I’m taking the leap to subscribe. I love this channel because it gives me major girlboss vibes. Since the show was cancelled I needed something to fill the void lol
it is CRAZY to me how fast youve grown. you have such great content and man its just been a whirlwind watching u from like 20k followers to now!
Another tip for starting your own thrifting business=BE HOT.
You are Fabulous dahling!!! ;) )
Woah just watched this video and you’re so much more different now 🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️
Wow Ashley I really needed help getting started on this reselling business:) thank you for your help
I feel stupid, there’s too much math involved in this.
But thank you for making this video it’s been the most informative.
Putting in the chapters was so helpful! You obviously put so much effort into your videos and it's amazing! Thanks!
Hold up, I live in Maryland, oh my gosh I want you to style me so bad!!
2019!!!!!! Ashley changes a lot! :D I love her more and more, though!
ayyy ashley, finally got that audible spon!

I LOVE estate sales. I go to one every weekend. I had only been focused on home decor but lately I have been looking at the clothes. I have gotten some cute clothes and jewelry.
Thank you so much for this video ! Your channel is worth every second of time I spend here . Love love love, all the way from India ❤ also love your sense of humour
are you on coke? haha oh the vid is sped up, Respect that.
Great informative video. Nice on the eyes too. The info is rad.
Thanks again for all you do.
this was so helpful! I have my own instagram where i resell my thrift finds but just started and this was all so good to hear, loved it and you!
Don't you have to have a registration for your brand and a license for reselling? Ashley didn't discuss the process for that.....
Lynn B fedex mistreats it’s packages so badly, though. I’ve never gotten something shipped through them that wasn’t damaged.
mindy lee I’m sorry you’ve had bad experiences with them.
