These where the most maintainable V8 Luxury cars of their time. Just as reliable as the Lexus but without the recurring $1000 timing belt job of the Lexus (as these had a chain and good chain guides)
The 4.1 L V8 was one of the best engines of the 90s in hp per mpg.
forged pistons+rods, closed deck, six bolt main bearings, they dropped the expensive sodium filled exhaust valves of the previous gen but the Vicran vales were very long lasting.
if they had been more respected in the market they would not have fallen into the hands of non maintaing cheapskates and many would still be around.

EXACTLY!!! WELL-SAID! Toyota's Lexus V8s were nowhere near as reliable, with their incessant oil leaks, etc. The VH & VKs hold up extremely well when maintained as recommended.

Man I miss that Bose Stereo. It was one of the best system from in a car in the 90s with some of the best low end bass reproduction I have ever heard in a car. My 1997 Maxima had that bose system and the Q45.

I remember that Infiniti enthusiasts derided this as the “Q41” for its downgrade in power and handling capability. Motorweek say it’s faster, but that’s only because the 1996 model was detuned significantly to improve mpg. The 1995 Q45 made more than its listed HP at ~300hp and easily tuned higher. The 1989-1996 Q45 was based off the Nissan President, the 1997 was based off the Nissan Cima, a downgrade Nissan model, the second fiddle to the President but brand new in 1997 with a fresher interior and $5,000 cheaper. The original Q45 platform proved so capable it eventually replaced its own replacement in 2002 with the new President once again becoming the new Q45 as well as the new Cima. These lasted until 2012 overseas.

I can't count how many of these cars I've seen with over 400k miles. This generation Q45 (Y33) and the LS400 were the end of an era... the last of the automotive industry's pursuit for longevity/dependability, before their shift into the age of planned obsolescence.

When I graduated high school, I saved up to buy a car and saw one of these on sale for a pretty good price. My mom wouldn’t take me to go look at it cause she thought it was “too mature” for me. 😒
