I saw Joy Division play live back in the 70's in Manchester. I don't know these bands but they've really caught the the spirit and vibe of Joy Division. They've really nailed the atmosphere, all that's missing is the dark, sweaty venue.
I've been hardcore Joy Division fan for what, about 35 years now...what amazes me is the key changes they made so confidently. These aren't straight covers. Wilderness, for example. It's all done so well without being literal. Fantastic.
"This is the car at the edge of road, there's nothing disturbed all the windows are closed. I guess you were right when we talked in the heat, theres no room for the weak" What epic lyric's from Ian Curtis
I know you wrote this 2 years ago, but his name is Greg Saunier. Deerhoof is an incredible band, and they’re still making absolutely amazing music. Personally, without question, I think they’re one of the best bands alive and have been for over 20 years. Not for everybody, but man. They’re also the nicest people. Definitely see them live if you ever get a chance. They just released a full live concert video yesterday, them live in Berlin from march I think. It’s called the free triple live album . Check it out. Watching all of them playing is always inspiring. You’ll get a lot of good moments of Greg being the craziest drummer ever.
I just watched your set. And loved it. I'm 58 and about to embark on a journey with a couple of mates jamming JD songs. If we sound half as good as you guys I'll be stoked.
DAng!! In some ways, I like this better than the original Joy Division album. Xiu Xiu are so incredible and a great combination with Deerhoof, a band with connections to the great and victorious Caroliner Rainbow / Steeple Snakes / Rubber 0 Cement! Excellent video. THANKS for uploading this miracle of sonic delight!!! Brings back memories of performing in my own band Camouflage Danse and Str8 Sounds in NYC in the 1980s, East Village art rock and electronic mayhem.
Jamie should be played by Jake Gyllenhall if there is ever a biopic Seriously though, this is the best thing I've seen on UA-cam in years Man, Interzone gets me vibrating
Think the real ones would approve. Rad af. Interesting to see a drill whistle used during Interzone, I believe the original had Peter Hook making the noises with his mouth?
I saw Joy Div a few times. This takes me back to the first time I saw them. They came on stage dressed like the unemployed. Scruffy shoes rubbish shirts. Made no effort to look even anti-fashion. Just dull. Like this band. Then they began to play and I thought, oh these are quite good, then I thought wow these a really good. Once Ian began his dance my mind was blown. I’m glad someone is playing those songs. They shouldn’t die away.
Ian Curtis’ spastic “dancing” wasn’t actually caused by his epilepsy even though you’d assume it to be. His band mates said it was just his unique reaction to getting lost in the music.
Thank God this was captured
But wtf. To actually pull this off in daylight. Respect.
Was thinking exactly the same.
These people don't understand how phenomenal this is
Yep. I so regret not going to this show. I don’t know what I was thinking.
Really.

Xiu xiu really is a dark act (the vocalist) and I think he dose amazing. And dearhoofs backing is amazingly distorted yet restrained. I love it
@@nexos8097 Thats Angela Seo on keys too she's been pretty much a full time member of Xiu Xiu since around this time
I wish there was an official soundboard release for that one
Same
For me, She's Lost Control is my fav!
Amazing how much like Ian he feels, even though it's tottally Jamie singing
what a bunch of talented musicians
i tho u was gonna say what a bunch of losers but your right
No one asked.
@@yurupivo3507 hey i know its been 4 years but what was your problem
This only cements my love of Xiu Xiu, although the whole squad is doing an amazing job.
same guts, jamie is amazing but deerhoof are also beasts
Some of the best Joy Division covers I think I've ever heard.
I've been hardcore Joy Division fan for what, about 35 years now...what amazes me is the key changes they made so confidently. These aren't straight covers. Wilderness, for example. It's all done so well without being literal. Fantastic.

This is simply beautiful and magical. I don`t know if people really appreciate how special this is/was.
Done in the energy and spirit of Joy Division
It is such a joy to watch these gifted musician play with so much reverence and enthusiasm.
Man such a gem, it's a shame there were so little people.
CANT BELIVE YOU HAVE THE FULL SET OMG DYING
That drummer seems to have learned to drum by watching The Muppets, because his style is just like Animal's.
Hahaha damnit Brian🤣
He’s my new hero. Greg is So talented
The drummer is the star!
I remember seeing Deerhoof live and he would have the tiniest little drumset (like a 3 piece kit). But he would just rock that little kit.
Greg is one of the most underrated drummers of the last 2 decades
Simply the best covers ever in history
New Dawn Fades...this song is one of my favorite Songs from JD and damn, this man did honor it with this touching Performance. Wonderful concert.
the drums sound so good
That drummer. Wow.

what the fuck is this I'm a huge joy division fan and this is fucking amazing
Beyond good. On my 34th & fifteenth listen. These people totally get it.
I just watched your set. And loved it. I'm 58 and about to embark on a journey with a couple of mates jamming JD songs. If we sound half as good as you guys I'll be stoked.
God. Damn. What a powerful, emotive, and passionate performance by these united bands. Thanks for the upload.
I grew up with JD and I love Unknown Pleasures. This is absolutely fantastic.
Angela on the fucking whistle owning the show
This is flawless. Thank you, algorithm.
My mind is starting to catch up to what I'm seeing HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a very very good rendition of the album.
I hate covers. I especially hate JD covers. But respect is due for capturing the vibe. A soundboard mix would be fab.

this is definitely in the top 3 things ever
This is insanely good
I have to admit: This is no sacrilege!
That drummer does a pretty good Ian Curtis impression at the beginning
ive been waiting for a guy to take me by the hand
That's what I thought Ian Curtis said first time I heard the album haha
I cannot believe this exists
Jamie should be played by Jake Gyllenhall if there is ever a biopic
Seriously though, this is the best thing I've seen on UA-cam in years
Man, Interzone gets me vibrating
Damn….that she lost control cover….❤ xiu xiu
They really tapped into the source here.
Unbelievable.
This is truly amazing!
"Well can you feel it, feel it, feel it"
WHOA!! The 🚪 Spirit of Ian Curtis 🤩🎶
Think the real ones would approve. Rad af. Interesting to see a drill whistle used during Interzone, I believe the original had Peter Hook making the noises with his mouth?
Fantastic
Pretty damn awesome man.
well done, thanks for uploading. A good interpretation of the original
I love this
interzone is so good
Unbelievable.

I should have been here

Ja genau, das Publikum hat diese ergreifende, absolut leidenschaftliche Darbietung nicht verdient.
Magic incarnate.

Stylé
The final track was like wow fuck
21:12 she has lost her control
holy shit day of the lords

Fucking nice

Who'd have expected this? Pretty convincing too... but maybe 2010 audiences don't really get the whole thing

This is the fucking best!
Looks like Ian possessed him
korg r3

я думал я живу во вселенной где это невозможно
What guitar is that?
1985cactus vintage musicman
@@janipashkvan797 Thanks. It looks great. Kinda similar to Fender Mustang
Hard to pull of vocals ... this is no karaoke
Any chances to hear this in Apple Music?
Kind of poor taste that he even mimicked Ian Curtis’s epilepsy
Ian Curtis’ spastic “dancing” wasn’t actually caused by his epilepsy even though you’d assume it to be. His band mates said it was just his unique reaction to getting lost in the music.
You should see the shit Jamie does when he's not covering Ian Curtis lmao
lol thats just jamie
Awful. Do they know the notes they're playing?
