Great Reaction, Here is Some Background: CW: Suicide Basically the guy in the photo was in a low income part of Hanoi where it was common for them to be gay prostitutes for tourists to the point where a term was coined for it and the guy said to Jamie Stewart basically I have sex with you for like 20 dollars or something and Jamie was so like upset that this wasn't like a choice they could make so he paid him and to not alert like bosses took to a hotel room and paid for his photo taken and it's the album cover for a statement and also to try and humanize suffering The label wanted to pull the cover for nudity and Jamie said that goes directly against the point The album is called a promise because it's about how shit the world is and how his mother made him promise her he wouldn't kill himself because his dad did. Feel free to correct me.

theyre one of my favorite bands ever, jamie stewart is such an amazing writer and vocalist. deerhoof make similar type of pop music, less disturbing but just as surreal.. id def recommend them as well
i'd also recommend listening to jamie's drunk commentary (which you can search up on youtube) if you're interested in knowing more about the tracks. also, last time i checked, it seems jamie uses they/them pronouns now

If you're interested please listen to Empathica by coin locker kid. It's about two kids playing make believe to avoid reality, of course there's more themes throughout out the whole album but that comes across very clearly
I remember getting this album when it came out and not knowing what the hell was going on. I instantly fell in love with it. And "Apistat Commander" is my fave Xiu Xiu song. I honestly am shocked when I hear someone likes this album.
After hearing this, I wanna recommend Tilt and Drift by Scott Walker..... me and my pals are old-school hardcore music fans, some of us work in music... and we used to challenge each other to get through them, sound incredible like hes sculpting emotion not music, hugely influential to acts of today

Oh man this is one of my favorite albums of all time. Very sad and disturbing but weirdly beautiful to me. Xiu Xiu is amazing.

oh. my favourite album of all time. It is devastating and difficult but. It is deeply relatable and touching
incredibly depressing but also strangely comforting album for me. Seeing them live was one of the most powerful thing's i've felt.
