he made a comment about this performance in a Japanese radio interview. He said that the pressure of substituting Chester was so heavy that he had a hard time even finding the right key. He's my idol, please don't judge him by this performance.

Taka made a great and respectful job here, but in my opinion Crawling was a better choice for Taka and Somewhere I Belong for Oli Sykes.
Ya it definitely wasn't his key. Taka can sing like a beast no question, just an off night which everyone has.
Linkin Park is his inspiration. He admires Chester. He grow up with their song. It must be like a dream come true when finally his band (One Ok Rock) got an opportunity to do a concert with Linkin Park. But in the end, it is indeed become a dream...because Chester left early. Imagine how he feels. Heartbroken like us, of course. But he stood there, at the stage, with Linkin Park, in a place where Chester should be. Imagine the sadness, imagine the burden. Imagine his feeling. If i were him, i’m not sure i can even speak, maybe only cry! I’m proud of you, Taka. You sing well.

キーが低く難しい曲を予想以上に歌いこなしていて、マイクも満足そうだよね！
当時ローリング・ストーン誌がTakaの歌を「マイクへの叫び声がこの日誰よりも真のチェスターを蘇らせていた」と誉めてたけど、ステージの近くから撮った客目線の映像があって、
それを見るとよくわかるよ。撮った人が「最初から最後まで、気合いと迫力で会場を飲み込んだ、そんなパフォーマンス、ワンオクの名前を初めて聞くLinkin Parkのファンを前に、そうそうたるゲストの中で、堂々と圧倒するような歌と立ち振る舞いを見せてくれた。改めてTakaの芯の強さと喰らいついていく勇気、逞しさを見せつけられたし.煽って会場を大合唱の渦に巻き込んで、そこから最後の力強い高音で一気に突き放して納得させる。Takaは彼がこの会場に呼ばれたわけをちゃんと示したと思う」と言ってた。

Taka is legendary. His ability to change vocals depending on the song/artist he's covering while hitting high and low notes with ease, is insane.

So just to give an info, Taka talked about this stage at a radio few months ago and said that this stage was something he couldn’t control. He admired Linkin park from way before and the fact that he stood in front of the Linkin park members made him out of control of his feelings and he couldn’t find the pitch. He said this was the only stage where he got lost. I know that Taka have missed the pitch, but I believe that this tells how much he love about Chester and the band so please do not write something negative.

I return to this concert a lot as a die hard Linkin Park fan. Lately I've been cycling through the individual songs/performances on occasion. I'm honestly stunned that so many people take issue with the guest vocalists' performances, not only with Taka's performance here but on the others throughout the concert.
That anyone has anything negative to say about any of these performances is wild to me. Do any of you really love music? Did any of you ever love Chester at all? Because these artists do/did, and I'd challenge any of you to do better under the circumstances. Beyond that, I never thought for one second that any of these performances were subpar. I think every single guest vocalist at this immensely difficult concert did Chester justice, especially considering the love and grief each of them had to contend with.
This performance is fucking fire and I love it every time I watch it.
Maybe the song doesn't suit him but I swear he got a great voice. Pls check out his live concert. Dont judge him by just this one song 😊 Chester is a great singer so is Taka.

I think it's because Taka was singing lower than he usually does. He's more comfortable when he's in the higher register, like the last note he did. Taka is an amazing singer.

This was my favorite performance of the night, aside from "Leave Out All The Rest" with Gavin Rossdale. Taka really put all he had into it. He minced up some of the words, understandably, but he probably knew he would, and it had to take a hell of an amount of confidence to get up there anyway. Respect.

I can't believe anyone would be so small-minded as to write off an artist after one bad performance. As no one ever has an off night. Jfc. People hating on Taka's performances are such jerks. He had just been asked to cover for his dead idol and was clearly overwhelmed.
If you haven't I really encourage you to check out One OK Rock's new album Luxury Disease and listen to some of their other covers. Taka has put a few Adele covers that are amazing, and they did a cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," by Nirvana that's different from the original but also awesome.
I assume taka is held back by his overwhelming emotion, imagine singing a tribute to our idol with their band in front of their fan. As a die hard taka and One Ok rock fan i got to admit taka not at his best. Don’t let this performance stop you from searching them

私は10年くらいテレビも雑誌も見れなくて、
チェスターさんの死を知ったのは、母に新聞で教えてもらい、UA-camで、タカくんのことワンオクのこと知りました。バイトの子達はきつい仕事でも、ブルーレイで見たいとか目的もありましたが、頑張って働いてくれました。
この子達の気持ちを考えたら胸がとても痛みました。でもタカくんが歌ってくれてその痛みも
時間と共に減りました。本当にタカくんに感謝しています。本当にありがとう🙇♀️

Taka is a great singer and when he was asked to sing with them he wanted to do it for Chester. The emotion of losing is his idol is hard, but he had the strength to get on the stage and sing his heart out. Taka and Chester are inspiration to me with their vocals and music, I love this performance no matter what!

追悼ライブ全部見たけど…タカの時だけ最初に叫んだ後からはマイクの音量が小さくなってるとしか思えないんだが…。野外ライブで音量下げられたら、反響もしないし、この曲ならそりゃこんな歌い方になるわ。最後にタカが見せ場作った時にみせたブラッドの笑顔が救い。
