🎸 Thanks for Watching This Video! 🎧
#LinkinPark #MakeChesterProud #HollywoodBowl
This tribute isn’t about if the guest can compare to Chester … just enjoy
Thank you!!! Finally a person with a brain here🙏
Exactly
So many unnecessary comments. Let's clarify some things:
1. Chester said once he didn't like to sing Crawling live cause even for him sometimes it was hard to hit the notes (not that he couldn’t hit the notes, but sometimes it was hard cause the song has ups and downs in terms of structure which became irritating for his throat);
2. Oliver (at the time) had damaged his vocals, it was hard for him to reach high notes even in his songs (watch Bring Me The Horizon - Shadow Moses in session from BBC Radio and you'll see what I mean). If Chester himself said it was hard for him to hit the notes sometimes, can you imagine for a singer with damaged vocals? And even so, Oli did a really good job;
3. The band knows how hard this song is and it was a tribute for Chester. They knew what they were doing picking Oli to sing this song. And for what I recall, Oliver knew he couldn't hit the high notes like Chester so he asked the band to play in a lower key.
4. Oliver is a huge fan of Linkin Park. His life really changed after going to one of their concerts. So, that must've been a really huge and incredible moment for him, playing with his favorite band doing a tribute for his favorite singer and artist. He gave his best even when his vocals weren't 100%.
Like, there's no reason to compare both artists. They both had different vocal arrangements and techniques and of course they are gonna sound different. Saying "Oliver is no Chester" or "There's no one like Chester" is the most obvious thing you can say.
Just enjoy the video. If you don't like Oliver or his performance, don't watch it then. But understand his voice was not 100% at the time and he gave what he could which was good enough for a tribute.
Chester never said that he couldn't hit the notes? He said that it became irritating for him to sing this song as the structure of the song is just up and down in terms of progression. Also, Oli sang the song really well!
🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Yep, we can compare this musicians... and it be sooo fkking awesome version side by side of the angel Chester. LP/BMTH cross over will be so welcome. I need more!
I was honestly surprised that Oli did the song like this, I was expecting something like what Godsmack did (slow and very acoustic).
A very pleasant surprise that I was hoping to hear in my search of (band) covers LP.
@@aaryan4323 meaning.... Chester said he couldn't hit the notes lol. it's okay to believe him.
If it wasn't for Chester we would never have Oli...both mine favorite artist ever!!
Wait, could you explain this?:O
@@tanjabc1017 Oli Sykes' first concert he went to was a Linkin Park concert. He was a teenager and was absolutely fascinated by hybrid theory and Chester's vocal ability. It inspired him to become a musician. People complained BMTH's album, "That's The Spirit" was a linkin park ripoff. But the fact of the matter is, linkin park is the reason why BMTH even exists. You can check out what Oli said about him here
www.kerrang.com/features/oli-sykes-of-bring-me-the-horizon-on-chester-bennington/
Case and point, what Chester Bennington is to Oli Sykes is what Michael Jackson is to Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Usher, etc.

Aw poor guy but I’m still so happy he’s doing better and that this collab even happened I love their new albums and hope linkin park is doing well Rest In Peace Chester you’ll be forever missed
i think Jordan still sings better than Oli🤣
@@user-hb3si6xu2w yeah Thats right, but Jordan hasn't the Emotion and the pain in His voice Like Oli. Sometimes it isn't about very good singing, nur Just about Passion and Emotions.
If... But unfortunately he screwed up here. Cringe🥴 I love bmth and respect Oli, but this is fail
I've heard he's always been doo doo live..
DUDE hearing oli scream "so insecure" is fucking awesome. I would love to hear oli do a cover of this nowadays
He went to Early Tool levels of anger and passion in that moment. That got me.
Much respect to Ollie, you can tell hes putting his all into it for Chester. You did good Boi!!!
Oli Sykes during this period was going through some fucked up time. I guess he even had some surgery and took an year before releasing amo. He has been doing amazing ever since then. He has improved a lot. Too much screaming has caused this damage which happens to lot of professional singers. I feel he would have done an amazing job if he gave a tribute right now or something. But anyways thank you oli for giving tribute to not only our hero but his hero too
No, he used a type of screaming that requires a lot of compression(fry scream) and he forced it too much. Screaming doesn’t damage vocal chords.
@@goner.9989 Oli was using mainly two screaming techniques with several subvariations. Back in the day when 'BMTH' used to make deathcore music, he was using the traditional outward false cord screaming techniques, which has no pitch in it, but the versatility of making it sound lower or higher just by the way it resonates from almost closed or wide opened mouth. In other words, atonal screaming technique. As the distortion was coming from the vestibular folds and not the true vocal folds, this technique was a safe one. A couple of years later, though, when 'BMTH' started working on metalcore music, Oli started using a technique with a dangerous mechanism. It was the one, adding distortion directly from the vocal cords, slamming into each other without any false fold engagement and indemnification. It was the same technique lots of other rock and metal vocalists had used, including Corey Taylor, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and many others. It's mainly achieved by agressively adding distortion into yelling from the highest tones you may reach with chest voice, using a lot of pressure and letting all the air out, passing through the vocal cords. So, the compression you talk about, is what makes most screaming techniques safe. It's holding the air back and "closing your throat" by using different larynx cartilages. I haven't actually heard Oli using fry screams or tonal false fold distortion with compression. If he has learned and developed those, instead of the unsafer one that he was using in most of their metalcore songs, it would be awesome! I started listening to 'BMTH' not too long ago, and that's why I haven't listened ot a lot of thier new or old songs. I have actually heard lots of random and different songs by them, which I like and that's fine for me. Anyway, I went too far from the topic... My point was that fry screaming is a safe technique and overdoing it is not dangerous to you, as a basic fry scream doesn't even require much pressurizing and it's much more quiet than most other screaming techniques. The damage on Oli's vocal cords was because of using a dangerous technique, coming from only the true vocal cords hitting each other and achieved by loudly yelling through them. Regular fry screaming variations also come directly from the vocal cords, but in a safe way and different type of compression, which you get by the vocal fry included in the technique that holds the air back. I hope this comment was helpful, if you were interested and I hope you were not too tired of my insanely long commentary. Greetings from Bulgaria, friend! 😄💙🇧🇬⭐🍀✨
@@lightshader8731 I’m pretty sure that the new bring me album had false chord screaming and also false chord-applied singing
@@goner.9989 That's great to hear! Could you share a song where you think both are included, please? Or maybe two different songs from the same album, featuring these two techniques?
@@lightshader8731 just listen to anything off post human and I can assure you he’s using proper technique
Absolutely stunning, ollie living his childhood dream, sings from the heart
IKR so great. Bet he was buzzing the whole time. I was seeing it.
Man that must've been rough, I would love to see Oli do this again with the more trained voice he has now.
wow isnt it amazing how good oli is and this song brings his vocals their limits. Chester truly is irreplaceable
While Chester was a great vocalist, at this time Oli's vocals were fucked from screaming with a bad technique for so long.
Lol this sucks
Amazing that Chester almost never damaged his vocal chords from those singing and screaming.

Lets take a moment to appreciate zedd's drumming! 🔥🔥❤️
Got mind fucked when i realised he was drumming. what a weird place to see him.
@@ajuicycatsteak he was a drummer for a local metal band with his brother before started dj/producer career
What I love about this so much despite Oli having trouble singing he still put (how to explain) that energy, the real emotion, when we sing it back and that's what matters. I'm sure he loved just as much or even more singing it as everyone else did in the crowd. When I sing I know I sound terrible but it's not the note I'm trying to sing, it's the emotion and that's what Oli did but obviously better than I can.
wow much respect. the guitar, The sample and the bass pitch tuned down that fits for Oliver. Also Zedd respect helping Rob playing his drum track to improvise.
Oli is an incredible singer. But he proved that Chester is the only one who could pull this off. He is so missed
check out Ai Mori, russian cover on crawling, quite dope too
Wrong one other person can do it Austin Carlyle can do it of the band of mice and men
@@jgreenhalgh1 There will only ever be one Chester, Austin's got a great voice but Chester conveys real pain like no one else.
Hes a horrible singer are u deaf? Like serioisly bro u actually think he is a good singer? Come on
@@boomerwithatumor4624 LOL you're a joke if you think he's a horrible singer. I'm betting you're just jealous 😂😂
this is actually one of the best ollie performances ive seen imo. only chester can truly sing this song but i actually think he put just the proper amount of BMTH in this performance.
No offense to Oliver but this video makes me realise more as to how flawless Chester's voice was. These songs like what I ve done, numb, crawling, easier to run are very difficult but seems very easy in Chester's voice and this you will only realise when you hear it in someone else's vocal
I don’t think no one can hold that belt like that.
I think Oli was having medical issues w vocal chords at the time but yeah Chester had a one of a kind voice. I think Chris Cornell even had to break a sweat while covering this song
I'm a lifelong Linkin Park fan and doubt anyone disagrees about Chester, but you have to give Oli some credit, his voice is in much better condition now days.
You're still right, but oli ruptured his vocal chords twice and was just struggling for a while. I'm sure he could give it justice now lol
First of all I love Chester and LP. Grew up on their songs. But I heard even Chester many times just "shouting" awkwardly, not singing. No one can deliver studio quality on a concert. On the top of that Olis had medical issues with vocal chords at that time. He even did improve in midsong.
friendly reminder that production accidentally played the audio from the rehearsal recording instead of the live one. if you can find one recorded by a fan you can hear it's actually much better. on the last chorus you can hear the crowd start singing before he does, that's because he messes up in the live recording and starts singing earlier. just a weird thing to happen.
Oli is already a fantastic vocalist (especially now after he’s recovered vocally, from the drugs and from his divorce) not to compare or take anything away from Oli cuz I adore him. It’s just a testament to how amazing and next level Chester was that they had to tune the song down a step for Oli and he was still having some trouble in the beginning. Still my favorite Chester tribute🖤🌹
Chester is with him. Invisible Chester singing with oli Sykes.
Fantastic? Sorry dude but Oliver was never a Fantastic Vocalist. Only Sponsors and Sound Technologies of such Vocalists can be Fantastic(divorce.depression.drun.narcotic.-just an excuse more vocalists

His voice isn't perfect, but can you understand the emotion, pain and regret he's feeling?

Its been so amazing to watch oli and the boys take the torch from linkin Park and run with it and make it there own in recent years .
You'll know how good Chester really is when someone sings their songs.

Love both of them.. ❤️❤️❤️
OLI Sykes singing with Invisible Chester.
Okay so hear me out. Oli went to Early Tool levels of screaming here. He gave so much passion he achieved Maynard level screams.
I love oliver
This is one of Linkin Parks hardest songs to sing.... Also Ollie has become a much much better vocalist since this. But even if it wasn't perfect everyone needs to realize that all these other musicians do not normally do this kind of thing. They all loved chester and the band so much they showed up and put on a show in his memory and that's a big deal. Being a musician myself it really warms my heart to see so much love and admiration for them and they deserve every bit of it
Oliver cantou mais com o coração pelo momento do que pela técnica isso é claro, mas ficou muito bom!!! Saudades Chester.
Here we have a professional singer who screams in many songs and who's vocal cords are conditioned, and yet, he can't even hold a candle to power and melodic voice Chester was able to demonstrate.
I think he gave his best , but in the end i have to say , Chester and his voice was one of a kind . U can see how hard it is to sing like him!
Brutal 👀
No mal... Distinto, mis respetos para Oli y ojalá ahora que ya mejoró su técnica y volvió a cantar como antes, cante alguna canción de LP o haga un Ft con Mike, eso sería épico 🥲
U did ur best oli. 🙏
Agreed
CHESTER, que grande que eras! Una voz privilegiada, ángel y demonio a la vez. Como se te extraña.
Omg.Oli is so incredible ❤️
I'm not gonna blame oli, bcs chester himself told this song is hard to sing
I love Oly And Chezter...... Amazing vocalist
The best way to approach the Hollywood Bowl Tribute performances is: it's not a talent show. It's friends who came together to celebrate their long friend. Those folks are up there, not as performers only, but people who loved Chester. Even fans (Oli is a well known LP fan). Hell, if I was brought on stage it'd sound terrible. But that would never stop me from celebrating Chester
Chester said in one interview that he did not damage his voice because he knew how to scream. And boy he knew!!
i got chills all over my body
To see one of my favourite bands with a dead member go to a concert and team up with the singer from my favourite band to sing a song as a tribute for the dead member is just awesome mad respect to Ollie for still doing it with damaged vocal cords as well.
I fkn love his broken voice
I wish they'd redo this or maybe another song now that Oli is singing more now instead of screaming. He actually has a nice voice now that he's all healed up and isn't constantly tearing his vocal chords. Rip Chester

Thank you! If only Austin Carlisle was in better shape, he'd be an AWESOME addition to LP & plus he & Chester are friends
He LITERALLY is the closest out of all the artists at the tribute. I wish Bring Me The Horizon covered a LP song
No one can replace chester, none!!
He wouldnt even replace chester🙄🙄🙄!!
A tribute is not a replacement meaning it just defines the true meaning of a song sympathetically of the one who has invited
Now we know that Chester's voice was different than who ever vocalist from a rock band is that.

Obviously they had to play the song in a lower tuning (Drop B is what they used here instead of the Drop C# the song itself is in) to fit Oli's vocal range, but I think this sounded incredible because Oli's an amazing frontman and the song sounds awesome in Drop B as well.
