Last year I seen these guys Memorial Day weekend a week before that a friend of mine passed away. I didicated the song to him. We were friends for 30 plus years. Every time I hear this song. I think about him. He was 46.

It's a good song but kinda embarrassingly cringe from Godsmack
Embarrassingly cringe? Have you heard the song Serenity, or listened to "The Other Side" EP? Lol Sully has been a big advocate on mental health, especially with the youth. He and the band have evolved over the years quite a bit. From young Sully having anger issues, involved in crime, addiction etc., to overcoming those issues, then realizing that he could help others overcome their issues, and so opened the Nonprofit Scars Foundation. With Tony having to deal with the sudden death of his son back in 2018. Having to deal with a tragedy like that, be able to keep himself together and still continue with the band.
From 2 separate interviews with Sully on this song..
The vulnerable song came to Sully Erna shortly after he'd spent some time with his friend Lady Gaga. Erna explained: "In the short amount of time we hung out, she made me realize that we all have these imperfections, these wounds that we carry (whether they're physical or emotional) that cut so deep they can cripple us.
These feelings leave us vulnerable, or embarrassed, or even unworthy at times. And our human nature - when they're exposed - is to shut down, rather than embrace them and realize that not only can we overcome them, but we can also become an inspiration to inspire others to have a voice and find their inner strength to show their scars off loudly and proudly to the world. Our 'Scars' are nothing more than our battle wounds from life and they helped mold you into who you are today."

"You know what, I want to do this a little different. I want to create something that doesn’t just target one category but targets every category that funnels people into depression. I was trying to make it more of a song of hope. I was trying to identify the problem in the song lyrically to let people know that, like, you know, these things exist. But at the same time, I wanted to be uplifting, and let people know that it’s okay that you have that stuff. We all have that stuff and you should show it loudly and proudly because it’s what makes us who we are today.
Well, obviously my band is one hundred percent behind this and is a true believer now because we all have our scars, we all have our imperfections and our things that we’re insecure about or embarrassed about physically or emotionally. So they became a big role in this as well and supporter of it."
