NITRO VS ELECTRIC (RC FORMULA 1 COMPARISION) 4K

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- A little comparison between two lovely rc cars. Tamiya F201 Ferrari F2001 and the Kyosho KF01 SP with optional 2 speed. I love both these remote controlled 1/10 scale F1 cars, but there's just something special about driving the nitro that isn't there with the electric. At the same time the electric is probably more usable if you live in crowded areas where people might get annoyed. Thankfully everyone I've encountered seems to love that nitro sound, and they are drawn to the rc car in a positive manner.

My family have worked with Renault F1 team since they was called United colours of Benetton. And my uncle is an engineer. And he built in 1995 a remote control version of the F1 car of that year with a petrol engine. It was so massive, from spoiler to nose cone was around 5/6 feet. We used to race it up the starting straight at Silverstone on F1 test days and it was so fast
That’s awesome ! F1 was my dream I actually drove the Williams FW33 and Benetton B198 😊 ua-cam.com/video/0mq6vW_i19M/v-deo.html
@@carbonelement77 I've been around Silverstone in the repsol escort cosworth and one of the two seater F1 style cars. And sat in countless F1 cars but never been driven in one. I bet that was an amazing rush to feel the horsepower of it underneath you. Plus Williams is a legend in the game and builds amazing cars
Omg the way you can hear the nitro f1 car changing gears that sounds absolutely incredible, I would absolutely love to own one 🥹! Great stuff man you’ve earned a sub
I raced a VOne SII for a couple of years and the gear changes are interesting. To get the best results out of the .15 engine at the time was to have the gear change very quickly, within about 1/2 second to take advantage of the toque of the little screamer. Most people let it rev out a bit till it changes, by then its lost its momentum in first.
Would have been good to see them on a track, being on road like that doesn't really do them justice.
@@PlasticAssasin8 probably will struggle to find one in the U.K. where I’m from but I would really like to get one, very very interesting and advanced little bit of kit, thanks for sharing that btw, enjoy the rest of your day:)
It's not changing gear hes just flicking the throttle
@@clarkfox7961 at 7:48 it changes gear
@@clarkfox7961Er... no.
Just imagine if that nitro had a close ratio 10 speed transmission. That awesome sound going through the gears.
that trans would basically be the size of the car lol or it would break often, or probably both tbh.
I agree, but an audio system on an electric could simulate shifts and the scream of a V10 too. Modern electric should be faster than nitro.
@@skyrunr that isn’t the point of nitro.
@@charliemaybe That's not the point.
@skyrunr skyrunr why? Electric cars will never beat a top fuel dragter in a drag race of pure power and torque. You think a torque converter and multi gear transmissions allow that? Most on road nitro cars already have 3 speed transmissions that are fully automatic and very reliable. Really neat how simplistic they are designed
Just as in full scale racing, nothing beats the sound of an internal combustion engine.
Love the nitro❤
That nitro sounds nice. Loving that shifting noise. :)
Makes me think of how F1 cars used to sound.
NITRO forever and ever.
I don’t even own an RC car, but for real, electrics for toys.
@@JamoRox75 NITRO is not a toy.
I agree I went back to nitro and sticking with it
And also the demand is defo for nitro but they won’t keep building them for us
And EVER
Electric out of the box is easier and usually always faster. But it will never be as much fun as a Nitro, never make the noise and smell of a nitro either. Electric to me is a good time, but nitro is a great time!
Couldn’t say it better myself 😊
Best part about nitro is how much your neighbors will love you, lol.
What man dosent see these cars and think... man thouse are sooo cool!
Hearing the Kyosho Nitro F1 shirt change sounds so frikken AWESOME!!!!
That nitro F1 sounds awesome. I love to run my nitro RC touring cars.
If you like smells, try a burrito heavy on the onions and a six pack of PBR. After a half hour you senses will be overwhelmed. ! ! !
Forget the RC cars, I love your real-world ride! LOL. Great video. Thank you.
Haha thanks man
Love the sounds when that nitro changes gears sounds more like a real f1
The nitro any day of the week.
I got bored with electric cars, but my nitro always got way more attention.
I remember when I used to waste all my money on these things I used to get so mad at myself lol
The nitro f1 car is perfect in terms of car type with the high engine revs, then the 2 speed shift.
I may have to get one just because of this
Nitro one is WAY cooler tho.
There was something fantastic about my all 100% aluminum 1/8 scale savage with a 3 speed transmission and it just get that feeling with a well tuned Nitro engine .
I can almost smell the nitro car ! Lovely !

Brushless is what my kids & wife drive. I have the ability to adjust and tune take temps.... this is why I love Nitro
Cool stuff . Nice footage .Glad you decided to run it . I have the same Tam Ferrari F201. Since 2007 Ithink, One of the nicest RCs I've ever driven .
Its in excellent condition as it only comes out once or twice a yr to run on a clean surface .
I actually just run a lipo batt on the tuned brushed stock motor and find the speed is sufficient.
Got back into nitro last yr too . Missed the realism and performance . And smell . LOL
Man I agree, it kinda sounds like the real f-1 cars.
I always found nitro way more exhilarating, I no longer own one but I am with you on nitro!
#7 is BEAUTIFUL!!
The rear differential became loose from the torque of the brushless motor. You either need to use Loctite on the center screw and tension nut, or you’ll need to find the hop-up lightweight differential for it.
Boy I love me some nitro!! Beautiful cars buddy
Thanks bud
Is the actual Formula One car that it's modeled after have four-wheel drive? I never thought they did, I thought it was all rear wheel drive. it could be four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, do you know? I guess I could go research it.
It would have made way more sense to use a F103 or F104. Not a F201. Both the rear drive chassis would have been 50% quicker than the f201 with the same power train, they also feel scary to drive, unlike the f201 which is just like driving a regular touring car.
The F103/104 are just far more exciting to drive than the F201 by a large margin. The feeling you should get driving a scale F1.
There is a reason the f201 never took off.
That being said the F201 is a great piece of tamiya history and are great shelf queens.
I agree f103/4 would’ve been a more fair comparison. That being said the conclusion is still the same :)
that Hummer :O
I can barely control my Tamiya Rally Beatle. Can't see myself doing this unless I had a paved space the size of a football field. 😒
The shifting on the Nitro sounds pretty damn cool when it shifts from 1st to 2nd, imagine if it had more gears in the transmissions lol.
So let me see if I got this, Honda vs Ferrari. Awesome
I also have a stinger and a Corvette ZR1 from the 80's. vintage stuff
should have been cutting the lines, every one or skip top speed is easy. Built grasshoppers with bigger motors, taller gears,+2 batteries.
Comparing different models from different manufacturers is simply meaningless. An accurate comparison would be of the same model from the same manufacturer, one in nitro and one in electric.
I've always lliked rc cars but never really knew what to do with them, If they go really fast its not long before you cant see where it is and theres hardly any surfaces for most of these. Yeah you can use cameras ut i dunno. Never really owned any apart from kids ones for these reasons.
the Nitro sounds like my stihl chainsaw 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
FPV? It seems like a natural for these cars. 👍👍
Don’t know if I can get one of these but you gave me an idea of taking a Arrma limitless roller and a nitro set up for it
Did that after market company that made/makes parts for that Tamiya F-1 series chassis's, ever finish or release to the public the front end hydro differential like a torque converter. They claimed to be offering two versions, one was just a basic hydro-torque converter differential and the other unit, had a inertia counter-weighted pendulum that controlled a left or right traction bias to one or the other front wheels... The way I understand it to supposedly to work, was if you are in a corner, turning towards the right, the pendulum would throw to the left, via inertia and the hydro fluid with-in the front diff, would divert more fluid away from the one side, and basically starve that side, while the other side of the diff, got more fluid, to have that front wheel pull...
Please note, I do not know what direction or which side for that above example got more pass-thru power/torque...as the article kinda didn't explain it all that well.... I would assume that if you are turning right, and the diverter inside, being controlled by the weighted pendulum, now being thrown towards the left, would in what I think should happen (I could be wrong) that you would want that front left wheel getting the power and torque, beings there is more down pressure being applied to that front corner due from turning right. While the right wheel is kinda barely getting any power and torque, I would assume still enough to over come the drag factor and possibly slowing the car a little bit or causing it to spin out.. I just think both are still suppose to pull hard, just, one side pulls harder, to steer / pull it through the corner. Please note, I do not know if this would help or hinder the over all car/chassis systems performance? Does this kit add more weight? Is the pendulum counter weight adjustable in how hard it is allowed to divert from a 50/50 or neutral straight forwards pull, to turning left of right at what ever percentage, then allowing a 90/10 or a 10/90? Is the pendulum spring loaded to automatically return to center or neutral point when the chassis is rolling straight? or is the pendulum centered, based on what gravity is doing to it? As you can see, I have questions..lol... Can other fluids be used to allow for more adjustments?
They only showed one poor black & white photo of that (work-in-progress) front hydro differential torque converter and is was very grainy. But, you could kinda tell, that there was three rotors or straight vain fans, samwitched together, kinda like a typical ball differential, the center bladed fan, had the gear sprocket and the two outer bladed fans, one on each side, those two, attached to the half-shafts/drive-shafts to drive the front wheels, of course.. On the front of the differential case halves, the mechanism seemed to have a wiper that pivoted, assuming to scoop the rotating fluid to both, or left or right side, pending how much the level was swung/pivoted. The pendulum kinda looked like the tic toc arm of an upside down musician's metrodrone. Which is why I question if it is adjustable, like on one of those tic tok frequency generators are. by sliding the counter weight up or down, to create more thrown weight to force the fluid to one side or the other or possibly to over come the hydro forces with-in? I don't know, but have been waiting to see somebody play with one of those for a few years now... and if anybody would be playing with one of those after market hop-up parts/kits, I can only assume you would be the one, simply due to how well you convey the details of things.
There was a few off-road and I think only a few pan car chassis's that ran a REAR hydro system, but had nothing to do with left to right side traction control or biasing. Those units where purely just a dampening system or torque converter as we know them to be in most of today's automobiles, as these series of RC chassis's only ran those on the spur gear, if I remember correctly? Please feel free to correct me on that note. They were a hit, once they were dialed in for the launch and mashed throttle, for traction control. But, was a nightmare to get to the point, as they were messy during that learning curve. Fluid viscosity allowed for many adjustments. The amount you put in, allowed for adjustment, tolerance of how close the blade/fans/vanes were to each other, also was an adjustment, of course, on top of gear sizes, etc.. .But, this front unit, they talked about only once, that I know of, been waiting a long time.. For all I know, it was a flop, and caused more issues, they it could have helped? or, maybe, it just didn't work at all, LOL... The idea, for what little bit of info that was covered in that small article, was really intriguing to me. If it did work, could something like this, then be implemented into both the front, and rear diff's, and possible the center diff? Sure, this opens up a whole mess of junk to go wrong in the heat of a race, but, I do like tinkering with silly stuff too.
It does remind me of the era of the famed, RC-10, and one private manufacturer that talked allot of stuff, about a bolt on kit, to make the RC-10 4WD/belt driven... and, years went by, and nothing...lol... I speculate, that was due from the massive flood of the RC industry dropping bunches of AWD & 4WD chassis's none stop, so, why bother with a bolt on kit that might have been more problematic then what it was worth? I don't know if they ever even released a single kit to the public? Still woulda been neat to see an AWD/4WD belt driven old school gold pan RC-10... Pardon the novel.. I am sorry, just seeing this, brought up these thoughts and was curious is all.
I’m not sure to be honest because it’s been discussed for so long I’m not sure if they still make aftermarket parts unless Tamiya will do a re release.
I really like the nitro F1 !!!!!
Nice sound My Nitro jj
Does anyone know where I could purchase either/both of these items?
I agree the nitro sounds more realistic. However, a big advantage with electric is “dial up power”. Motor selection (size and Kv) can yield phenomenal power. The major weight component is the battery. With nitro the major weight component is the engine, and its energy output is a function of cubic capacity. Want more power? Not so easy to fit in a bigger engine.
Love the scale F1. cars. I’ve not seen any F1 kits. For a long time
The nitro car is running super rich!
Yea nitro sounds cool gives you a more scale experience but that being said the problem is you spend more time tuning and fixing and even just trying to get those damn things to start youcan skip arm day at the gym if you own nitro you spend more time pulling the starter than actually driving it😂
And this day and age brushless and lipos make rc so much more fun driving a rc should be relaxing lol..
Can you tell my experiences that I have had with nitro 😂😅
Been doing this since 1987. No comparison when it comes to realism!!
Love the nitro!
I love my Tamiya F103 (f189) and other electric cars but you are so right nothing beats the nitro's, I'm currently restoring a vintage PB Alpha IS 1981 1/8th scale. Just so much fun not only driving but working on them.
i love nitros, remind me of father's chainsaw.
I would be scared to run these buetiful models in case I cliped a curb etc...the Nitro just sounds so good...especially the auto shift...its a liveing machine, I started with Tamiya in the 80s then moved to nitro in the 2000s sold all my cars , I wish I never did now...
that's actually one of the big reasons electric rc stuff got so much more prevalent: while it is a bit more convenient and thus a lot more attractive to a company/industry trying to keep their barrier to entry as low as possible the real difference is that the electric stuff is _absurdly_ survivable and has far less critical parts to prevent easy repairs unless it has been specifically designed not to be. in short if you crash an electric car you can put it back together in reasonable working order fairly easily at little to no cost (even high-end ones are surprisingly cheap to turn back into a car after they've been turned into assorted components strewn all over the ground), crash a foamboard airplane straight into asphalt at 140 miles an hour and there's a pretty good chance all you loose is the foam just throw a new one together and stick the important parts in there and you're back in the air with a new plane of a new design in 15 to 30. you simply don't need nearly as much delicate mechanical parts in an electric design and the motors themselves can live through hell and run while beat to heck and full of sand (granted they won't like it one bit). clip a curb with a gas car though and there are good odds it'd destroy or denature everything from the wheel all the way up the linkages to the motor...really didn't help that a lot of them were straight up _designed_ to be totaled easily but that's a corporate issue not an engineering one (gas stuff had an image of being finicky as hell and all too fragile because they often _made_ them to be finicky and fragile).
in short gas models are meant to be something you collect and show off electric models are meant to be something you have fun destroying.
Thanks for the memories. I've gone to the Tamiya Track in southern California numerous times to race in the TCS. There's nothing like a full grid of F201s at the start. That nitro sounds to be tuned conservative. That motor can be leaned out to sound like a dental drill.
That’s awesome ! It is because it’s a small motor
Love that shift. I put a 2 speed into a 5th scale. was so cool. Had a couple 1/5 motorcycles. The nitro was far cooler to me even if the brushless was faster and more torque
I prefer nitro for continued running like in racing, versus electric for precision fun driving
Nitro, all day, every day ❤👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the video ! Got a new sub 😅
I think nitro engine fits better in a rc F1 car, sounds more like the real thing. 😁😁
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Agreed on all points about the nitro. Old abused nitro are filthy. But change gaskets when they fail, route exhaust and your car will stay clean
Kyosho really needs to do a re-issue of that car. I'd buy one in a heartbeat!
Please come back here and comment to notify me if you see an extra one available, and if you’re not greedy to order 2 for yourself 😄
Agreed !!!
Prefer electric no mess no fuss just pure power
Would love a link to a nitro f1 rc car for sale!
You sure can't beat the sound of the nitro
oooh vroom vrooms go fast hmmm :D
this comment is basically me 😂😂😂
I use to race them indoor I had a Tamiya 2wd but with an convention kit I think it was called exo tech or something I can’t remember
Rear ball diff let go. The original threaded pins were useless. Tamiya made a stronger set a while after the f201 was released. We raced these in a class, by far my favourite back in the day. Get some new diff pins.👍🏻👍🏻
Which one wins in a race though??
I like how the Eletric Car runs, but I think the Nitro more faster. 😍
I CANT AGREE MORE....
amazing f1 rc's man but that nitro change gear sounds so satisfying
Nitro fun and real feeling
That fuel car definitely gives the better F1 experience- would love to try someday- but not gonna happen for me- $$ and neighbors. So it's electric for me...
Do so more car driving with the loud exhaust
Where can I purchase the electric Ferrari ready to run? Thank you in advance.
Not available unless eBay because discontinued
Yeah, I prefer nitro as well. But you can't deny the fact that electric outperforms nitro in a competitive setting.
yup nitro has much more f1 vibes
F201 has a highly tunable suspension, it deserves a proper setup on an alignment board. Unfortunately the driveline on the F201 isn’t strong enough to take a fast brushless setup. It’s a ticking time bomb with a hot motor sadly.
Schumacher chassis all the way
Changing Gear at high rpm....F1 Car with realistic Sounds so great.
There isn't anything quite like the way Nitro burns your eyes and nose when you catch a whiff of it!
I’ve now lived in Germany for 4 years. It’s so sad that I see not one person in nitro hobby. I’m a member of a flying club for rc planes but that’s all electric.
The scale realism of a nitro can’t be matched. I was a kid and I had a couple of nitro cars. I loved them. I wish I could have more and enjoy them but in Germany they are very grumpy with loud noises and smoke.
I feel the same way ! We need to keep the hobby alive !
Where in Germany are you ?
I saw nitro planes here in Duisburg Rheinhausen left side of the river Rhein.
Even 7 cylinder radial 4 stroke.
But yes most planes and helicopters are electric nowadays.
2 speed nitro is so totally cool. I like electric for the convenience and all that, but nitros are super cool.
There has always been that something extra with nitro over electric cars. I love electric but nitro is so much more fun. It's a real working engine with 2 speed transmission, what's not to love about plus you can go and go as long as you have fuel. Batteries need charging so nitro always wins for me.
Nice video got to take the RS4 nitro off the shelf and show it some r/c love!
team Nitro all the way baby
the nitro sounds more f1 like
i am oldschool. Electric can have insane performance. but Nitro / Petrol is the way to go. and i am a "fly boy" i fly RC planes. its Nitro or gas / petrol instead of Electric.
and regarding "Jet´s" EDF = Electric Ducted Fan´s just eat high quality LiPo´s so i rather have real Jet Turbine and run on Jet A1 fuel.
Nitro is my wet dream But it is very expensive for here (Latin America) like the basic is 500 to 600 USD car only, it's like say 3000USD for an American (comparing purchasing power obviously )
Instead of the 1% life, it’s all about the 20% life LOL😅
What model is that nitro one? That thing is sweeeeet! Never mind got it at end😅
Look into fg. They make killer f1 cars.
I love FG but this is next level ua-cam.com/video/VyDHRBoo0R8/v-deo.html
You have 2 f1 please race your f1 must be you are playing f1 been funny congratulations 🎉 you been subscribed thx bro 😊
I had an older losi 5T but in the UK it’s finding places to run without someone calling the police because of the noise so I switched to an X max and infraction etc although I do miss the fun of a real engine
I used to live there I know what you mean !
How many Turn or KV brushless is in that F201? I got one too (F201) but with a regular 17x2 brushed motor in it and it doesn't go that fast as yours. Running 2S or 3S ?
This exposes the problem with the concept of “Formula E”. Electric race cars are not exciting. Quite the contrary - they are annoying and sound like dentist drills.
I have a Tamiya F201. Great handling car but very fragile
With electric you don't get that shifting sound like nitro BUT the nitro is a pain in the as* hard as heck to start most the time and your car gets filthy in no time!!!
Nitro any day. The feeling and the sound. Electric is good for indoor and that's about it. Also, who on earth thought a 4WD F1 electric was a good idea?
I'm normally more a fan of electric but the nitro car is MUCH cooler on the f1 car. I think the nitro car is more realistic with the sweet sounds and also being RWD. I also like the nitro car better cause it has a sharper body.
Awesome Video! Awesome Cars!!
