After researching more about the game, it seems that the problem is that this game uses Mesh shaders, which is a feature that only RTX cards and RDNA 2 cards have. The weakest GPU that supports this feature is the RX 6400, which does run the game on Low with FSR above 30fps. If that's the absolute bare minimum then why make an even lower setting? I just saw a GTX 1070 not even reaching 20fps on low with FSR on ultra performance. Not having mesh shaders just makes the game unplayable.@@doggo4537

This game can be optimized alot more. An optimized game for Alan Wake looks like The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, which PC recommended requirements is the GTX 1060! Alan Wake deals with high density forests...but so does Little Hope. Why is the game rendering high res trees and textures when there is fog and it is dark? The LOD range can be shorten simply because fog is reducing it's quality anyway. Same thing for when it gets dark. Many optimizations can be done but they were very excited to release this game now.
The cheap 4060 seem to do much better than a ps5 already, so finally it's not such a bad gpu specially when you take fg in consideration that give a framerate equivalent to a 3080ti in some scenarios.

I think the most interesting part of DLSS is how scalable it is. You get the 4k experience with minimal artifacts that are barely visible on smaller screens at the same/ similar frame rate as native 1080p . Of course this isn't true 4k but at this point it might as well be.
At the same time most of the videos testing new games are like "dlss performance at 2k? nah, never heard about that" like wtf with them, they will run game at 4k ultra RT Pathtracing to show 1 fps, but for some reason never go down under "balanced" if it is not 4k. The tech is pretty interesting and in some games can actually do magic, but in almost every case I have to download the BS playable tech demo game myself to bench DLSS at 2k in all modes lol.
Frame Generation works pretty awesome in the games I am using it on lately. Cyberpunk, AW2, D4, Witcher 3 Next Gen. Been using it with a 4060ti a bunch lately.

Is raytracing broken on 8GB Vram? The textures render in 144p res whenever low raytracing is enabled after a chapter change. Same thing happens with pathtracing.

Frame gen does not boost fps like the traditional dlss ou fsr, it boots fluidity, which is far different. And even if the frame gen was so amazing as Nvidia's marketing sells it, the 4060 has a really bad performance when playing in higher resolutions than 1080p because of its lack of memory brandwidth. It is probably the most disappointing launch that Nvidia ever made.

This GPU is fairly close to my 2080 Super in performance, so 1080p low with DLSS quality is probably the way to go for a consistent 60 FPS if I ever pick this game up. And I've noticed that it seems heavy on VRAM use at medium and above, so going above low on 8GB or less GPUs probably isn't a good idea because you could potentially run out during gameplay and get massive stutter.

I saw Karan benchmarks video, and you can actually play on high with dlss quality. In the more demanding forest area you get 40's. Which is playable for a game like this.

Nah. Low settings for this sort of FPS is not that right. We've had great looking games in the past that ran extremely well. BF3/BF4/BF1/BF5, resident evil remakes, resident evil 8/4, DMC 5, forza horizon 3/4/5, etc. All looked great. With forza looking pretty realistic and still running well. Even control ran at 1080p medium settings 60fps on a 1650. With the 1660ti and rtx 2060 almost maxing out the game. With the 2060 also being able to RT using DLSS.
It's amazing that we're going back to the 720p/1080p era in 2023.

I like the thing that Ray Reconstruction is avaible on normal RT and not only on Path Tracing like in CP2077

You can turn on ray reconstruction in the config file without path tracing, either nvidia or cdpr maliciously blocked it in cyberpunk

I saw Karan benchmarks video, and you can actually play on high with dlss quality. In the more demanding forest area you get 40's. Which is playable for a game like this.

Will you try out Ark Survival Ascended? I hear it has awful performance, as in not playable on low settings on a 3070, and struggling on a 4090 at 1440p sorts of bad performance. Might be fun to see how bad it really is
Why should I buy a game full price if I have run it on Low settings at 1080? I will just wait 3 years and pay 5 dollars or maybe play for free on Epic

last time i played the beta it was actually really CPU bound, though this may be because of my system i dont know (RTX 2060 and i7-9700K)
with this game and ARK releasing, I'm not going to have time to test the finals, unfortunately...

@Kait0s that's true and I also wasn't playing with Ray tracing on so you're probably right, although I would expect a decent amount of cpu usage from all the destruction and physics
my only hope rockstar's GTA 6 doesn't become this demanding, i know rockstar is known for optimized games lets hope they continue like that

It can play just fine at 1440p and some games will even run at 4K with DLSS.

Tbf, as long as I never see a 1440p or 4k monitor to compare to my 1080p, I'm very happy playing on 1080p on a beast computer and maxing out all the settings

the Low settings in this game still looks better than TLOU Part I on ultra lol they under-promised but over-delivered. Remedy is always brings the latest graphical tech and solid story telling

Nah. Low settings for this sort of FPS is not that right. We've had great looking games in the past that ran extremely well. BF3/BF4/BF1/BF5, resident evil remakes, resident evil 8/4, DMC 5, forza horizon 3/4/5, etc. All looked great. With forza looking pretty realistic and still running well.
Even control ran at 1080p medium settings 60fps on a 1650. With the 1660ti and rtx 2060 almost maxing out the game. With the 2060 also being able to RT using DLSS.
Please try the new Ark 2 on the Rx 6700xt please
To hell no no decrease for running on older gpus. Its the price when you want really good quality.
But for performancewise its good for the 4060.
