_In fact, I can argue another factor that made the Warriors dynasty what it was:_ *Stephen Curry’s early ankle injuries* If you remember, all those injuries to Curry’s ankles during his first few years in the league allowed him to be re-signed below market value, which then made it possible for the Warriors to stack the roster by the mid 2010s with players like Andre Iguodala and then eventually with a superstar like Kevin Durant when the league-wide cap spike hit. *_Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good_*
The funny part about that was, at the time, everyone in the league thought the WARRIORS were crazy for even offering the contract due to the injuries. Steph was seen as horribly injury prone and was never going to shake the glass ankles. Looking back, the contract was a STEAL and, as you pointed out, another big factor in helping to build the dynasty. You never know how things'll work out in the long run.

David Lee was the whole reason why I became a Warriors fan in 2010. Ironically started becoming a pretty big fan of him after that 30-20-10 game he had vs the Warriors. Yeah, but not in the way that it should have. The immitators aren't copying the right things from the Warriors. Draymond led those teams in assists playing from the elbow and hitting players with assists who were cutting off ball. Everyone else is still trying to play ISO one on one ball. What everyone tried to copy is shooting a bunch of 3's. That's part of what made the Warriors successful, but the least easy to replicate part. Trying to shoot a ton of 3's without the 2 best shooters to ever play the game on your team isn't really doing anything for anyone. The only team trying to copy what the Warriors did with the motion offense and elbow post passer is the Kings, who have Mike Brown as their head coach. Mike Brown was Steve Kerr's assistant, and Mike Brown is the one who instituted the offense that the Warriors found success with. Also the reason why the "small ball" lineup was successful is that Draymond Green was the most versatile defender that I've ever seen. He can defend 1 through 5. The Warriors struggled in games against bigger physical centers. There just isn't enough of those guys (especially in the west) for the Warriors weakness to get exposed. So basically the Warriors had 2 things that couldn't be replicated. Trying to play small ball without a Draymond Green because there isn't a Draymond 2.0 out there and trying to shoot a ton of 3's without the 2 best shooters in NBA history on their team. Meanwhile, the things that teams could copy, like playing motion offense and cutting out the ISO ball nobody other than the man who brought it to the NBA is copying. Steve Kerr gets credit for what Mike Brown got fired from the Lakers for trying to do with Kobe over a decade ago. Everyone decided to try and copy the worst aspects of what the Warriors were successful at, and the NBA still has ISO scoring teams going to the finals. The Celtics played better team basketball and were better passers. That's why the won the ring. Watch this video. Draymond's passing was what unlocked the Warriors. The landscape of the NBA didn't change. It's just as blind as it always has been. Mike Brown is the unsung genius of the NBA and Denver and Jokic at least realized it. Hopefully the rest of the NBA will learn from coach Brown too.
Great video as usual Andy. Correct me if I'm wrong though. I recall the Warriors being down in their first championship finals series and it was David Lee who turned the momentum around. He didn't contribute a lot but sometimes turning the momentum around in a series is huge.
I was waiting for someone to say this! I remember watching in that finals and while he did not contribute much in the whole playoff run, in the finals, he had a couple of good stretches and helped push the warriors over in victory in a couple of games. It was enough to say that he did not just ride the bench to win a championship. He may not have been the player he was before, but he earned that ring and can say he helped contribute.
Draymond was a versatile player that could pass and defend well while he can shoot the three ball well if open Those championship years definitely benefited from Draymond’s skills and impact which gave Steph and Klay space to shoot
it's funny how the teams back then were countering this infamous small ball lineup with their own version. Which proves that it is unstoppable at the time
I have a lot I want to say, but I will just say that Lee is a true team player and winner in that I never heard anything negative from him or from the team when he moved to the bench. He still would play when needed and would contribute. How often do you hear that kind of situation go the opposite way? He had a couple of good games in the finals too.
Awesome video. I think a lot of fans don't properly appreciate great ball movement. We tend to glorify the great isolation scorer. But even the best isolation scorer in the world isn't going to yield as efficient an offense as wide open spot-ups and layups. Plus, I personally find great ball movement more fun to watch. It's weird to me that older viewers complain about the current NBA when there are so many teams now who have adopted a fun style with a lot of passing, off-ball movement, and good pace. It's arguably a more "pure" form of basketball. I get that all the threes can be a bit tedious, but the pathway to getting those open threes is highly entertaining. And there are still guys like Jokic, Embiid, Giannis, and Zion who are dominant rim scorers if you prefer that. Anyway, I've always loved watching teams like the 2014 Spurs, the 2015 Warriors, and the current Nuggets, Pacers, and Kings because of how beautifully they run their offense. And I think the Warriors were instrumental in this shift. You had teams much earlier that played this style (like the Steve Nash Suns), but because they didn't win a title they weren't widely imitated. It takes a team breaking through at the highest level for teams to start borrowing from them.

Steph curry and klayk Thompson is born in same mouth of lies 🎉ka.pai aka nei steph curry moari Ora jail is for life OK
Plz people warriors wasn't a great NBA dynasty the bulls with mj in crew were a better dynasty spurs with Tim Duncan and crew Lakers with Shaq and Kobe and crew Celtics with bird Kevin Robert and crew Lakers with magic Kareem worthy and crew
Steve kerr took all the credits from Mark Jackson's system.
It was Mark Jackson not Steve Kerr
Warriors had high draft picks from starting 5 to the bench
papyrus lets gooooooo
Also, it's sad for Mark Jackson who's legend and contributions were stolen by Kerr.
1st
2015’s luckiest run was the main reason, without that they still loss in 2016 and kd isn’t coming to deliver those chips in 2017and 2018, so what dynasty? opponents injury not lee’s injury😂
This is so boring
U mean Kyrie and Love injuries helped that dynasty
Steve Kerr is the most overrated coach in history. Mark Jackson made that team
Two things can be true… while I feel Mark brought identity and defense, Steve brought that offense. Mark was old school and was running an inside out offense centered around Lee where Kerr benched Lee and ran motion with Dray, Andre, Shawn and Leonardo as primary ball handlers to get Steph off the ball more and running rampant thru screens
@@reodagreo7637 If Steve was hired and Jackson never hired there would be no dynasty for the warriors no championship. You’re not wrong yt ppl are supposed to take up for yourselves. Steve Kerr’s having problems with the Olympic team right now. Most overrated coach in history. Anyone can coach those Warriors ask Luke Walton 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@YeahHeSaidit The cold thing is bro, there’s no doubt in my mind that if Mark was never there the Warriors would never be champions… I just wonder if they’d ever be if he stayed
Jackson helped the defense identity develop, but without Kerr they wouldn't of become the dynasty. Kerr unlocked the offense.
@@reodagreo7637 That’s a legit debate… I would say yes because When Jackson left Curry Nor Thompson was at their Splash bro peak. That’s what everything circled around but I agree it is a good question to ask. But this whole video on Kerr cultivating them into champions is non sense
They did Mark Jackson dirty
Did himself dirty
They made the right choice. That team wasn't going to win anything with Jackson as coach.
@@damianpresha9833 yeah definitely made had some major fuck ups in his denture with the warriors
@@jbrumundsmith it reminds me of the Stan van gundy situation in Miami when pat Riley took over for him and they just pushed him out of the way like he was just a prop
