For the KG potential trade I say it was a blessing that the trade didn't go through for the Lakers. Giving up Odom and Bynum would have taken away key players that helped the Lakers win the back to back in 09 and 10. The Pau trade was superior because we have up Kwami Brown and Javaris Crittenton and some picks (Marc Gasol would turn into one of those picks) and the Lakers kept Odom and Bynum. I'm not sure if a KG and Kobe team would have had enough depth to win the title like the Kobe and Gasol teams.
I honestly think that Kobe and KG would have been the greatest duo ever. Kobe always blasted his teammates for not working hard or defending hard, and there is arguably not a more intense worker in history than KG.
yeah that Sonic one is a stretch. they got Payton with the second overall pick. it’s not a guarantee they’d be that bad to draft him if they have Pippen.
The Pippen-Sonics is missing one element: Scottie reached his true potential with Jordan pushing him in practice to grow into the historically elite top 2-way SF. With this in Seattle, Pippen may have made multiple All-Defensive Teams and some All-Stars, but never had the Alpha Scorer mentality. Certainly, the Sonics would have been better on both ends with Scottie instead of Derrick McKey (also drafted in 1987). The Duncan-Magic may not have necessarily changed Hill's injury issues, but it certainly would have lessened McGrady's figure andl literal weight off of his back to prolong his prime. Duncan's legacy would have developed a more accurate narrative with him firmly as the elite rim-protecting CENTER (not PF) and post scorer he played in actuality. The Duncan-Kobe battles would have made better storylines taking place in the NBA Finals rather than the Western Conference Finals (plus Shaq going against his former team). The MJ-Drexler-Hakeem trio would have been amazing. Certainly, Jordan's individual accomplishments may have been a bit dinged (as well as Olajuwon's), but Drexler likely would have had to make the greatest individual sacrifice to make it happen. However, he was one year senior to the others so this is probably the biggest potential roadblock from him becoming the more scoring-minded Pippen he ultimately became in Portland.
But if Seattle kept Pippen they more than likely would not be in the position to draft Gary Payton, so doing that type of hypothetical what if "almost dynasty" is pointless.
But what's never talked about is how the Antetokunbo, Jokic and Lebron could've been on one team. Cavs had two No. 1 picks back to back and decide to pick Bennett and Andrew Wiggins....

TMAC was healthy but hill part is true . TMAC averaged 8 missed game a season . In the years he was there , that healthy. Hill rush back from injury maybe if he waited could been something special
what made KG got to Boston instead of LA is actually pretty easy to trace... it was Celtic friendship. McHale was helping out his old ball club and his old friend danny ainge. Pure and simple. Nothing else. BTW the sonics DID have a lengthy defensive wing in the 90s, Derrick McKey. He stayed there through their 63 win WCF appearance in 93 and then was swapped for Schrempf. He wasn't a ball handler though. Good to know Duncan is whipped btw. And houston was not taking Jordan if they got clyde. If anything the Houston superteam from 97-98 of Clyde, Barkley and Hakeem would have happened way back in 84.
At some point , Kevin Garnett would've liked to go to LA. But McHale won't allow it and he traded him in Boston. It's just bizarre if we got pau , Garnett , and Kobe.
The one that pops into my mind is the Cavs deciding they needed to hold on to JJ Hickson (although they now say the Suns nixed the deal), leading to not getting Amar'e Stoudemire from the Suns. If the Cavs make that trade, resign Stoudemire, you can imagine LeBron resigning and perhaps talking Wade into coming to Cleveland the following off season. This would be after the 2010 playoffs where the front line is Shaq, STAT, and LeBron.
Another thing that hasn’t been talked about was before Dennis Rodman was traded to San Antonio, Detroit made a deal to trade the worm to Phoenix for Richard Dumas……but the trade was voided at the last minute…..imagine the worm and Charles Barkley playing together in phoenix….ijs……
kobe and kg had insane chemistry and the same mentality. look at how well they played together in the 98 all star game. that duo would have left opponents in tears and would have helped kobe get at least 7 rings. stern did everything he could to keep kobe from passing mj smh
With KG, I don't think LA would agressively push for a Pau trade. Man Kobe and KG on the same team would be massive. But without KG, in 2008 LA had a first five of Fisher, Kobe, Lamar, Pau and Bynum. A monstrous first five.
lookiing at the Spurs going into the summer of 2000,Robibson was 35 and on the dowside of his career, Elliott was battling kidney issues, there was no Parker or Ginobli yet, so going the team up route cerainly may have looked like the better option
Ralph was seen as the next GOAT at that time. He was a 7'4 monster among boys. He is the biggest what if in NBA History. I dont blame the Rockets for not doing it.
I feel like if KG would’ve played with Kobe it probably would hurt Kobe‘s Legacy. One of the biggest knocks on Kobe’s career after Shaq left was he needed a superstar to play alongside to win a championship and if he played with KG, that would just further the narrative. We all know KG is better than Pau, numerous of people will always say Kobe won two titles with a teammate who wasn’t on the 75th anniversary team and that’s a flex as well.
The other big Seattle what if... the Sonics could have gotten Clyde Drexler in 1994. The Blazers wanted to get younger and give Clyde a chance with a contender. The Sonics were looking to trade young talent Kendall Gill due to his ongoing feud with coach George Karl. The Blazers pushed to get the deal done but the Sonics GM refused because he feared he would be criticized for trading with a rival (apparently he wasn't worried about being criticized re: the Sonics routine underperformance in the playoffs). I don't know if they'd have been a dynasty, but I think a Payton-Drexler-Kemp big three would be serious contenders in 1995 and have a puncher's chance at a repeat in 1996. Instead Drexler went to Houston to get his ring and Gill was traded for the solid but unspectacular Hersey Hawkins. Reportedly during Jordan's retirement the Bulls also tried to trade Pippen plus a first rounder for Kemp... may not ultimately have changed any playoff outcomes but it's would have been a wild trade if the Sonics had gone for it.
5 team trade in 2017 that wouldve resulted in Bledsoe - Paul George - Carmelo landing in Cleveland with Lebron (Kyrie and Klove going out) Melo and PG confirmed that the deal was basically done but it was called off last minute. Melo and PG ended up in OKC, and Kyrie ended up in Boston
I think an under discussed part of dynasties is personality fits. While the thought of Jordan, Hakeem and Drexler playing together sounds like guaranteed championships for a decade you never know how players of that caliber can adapt to playing with other all time greats. I think Duncan, Hill and Mcgrady’s personalities would have been a perfect mix but not sure about the potential Rockets scenario
The worst part of McHale sending KG to Boston is we barely got anything in return for the Timberwolves. Kevin bled green to the detriment of his own team. What player turned GM would purposely ruin their current team JUST to help their old franchise potentially win another ring?
I doubt KG would still be in LA. No way Kevin McHale was going to help the Lakers out. Front offices say it’s all business but there has been plenty of times gm’s emotions got involved.
5:00 Andy is exaggerating like usual. A trio of Gasol, Garnett and Bryant wouldn't be a "perfect fit" because they'd have negative spacing The reason why Garnett worked so well in Boston is because Pierce and Allen are both great 3 pt shooters
Duncan and T Mac would've rivaled Shaq and Kobe ! On any given night Orlando might have the 2 best players in the world on their team , just like LA often had the 2 best players in the world , then if somehow add a healthy Grant Hill !!!
@@trevorwinn5012 yea they definitely would of met multiple times. If no injuries happened to any team what you think the outcome would be if they met 7 times in the Finals.
@@SilentMovements305 Depends on if Hill is healthy or not , even if Hill is there they still had no answer for Shaq , He used to straight rag doll Duncan and Robinson lol , with Hill may be 4-3 LA , Without 5-2 LA
it never happened because it was never likely. the heat colluded for years to make it happen, ever since they all mentioned wanting to play together at the olympics. it is no coincidence that the year before free agency lebron filed to have his number changed (miami and chicago have 23 retired for jordan) and miami literally had all expiring contracts to afford 3 star players. riley was given a heads up by wade that this could really happen and riley acted accordingly. then they all played the song and dance in free agency to avoid collusion and tampering charges.
To be fair, Grant Hill's injury was extremely and poorly mishandled. He had an ankle injury. Not a torn ACL, or Achilles injury. The medical team gave him the greenlight to play and it was too soon. Grant Hill talked about this. Had they waited for him to fully heal, Grant Hill could have continued to live out the peak of his career. Granted, I am not sure how durable he would have been from that point. Very few players are as durable as MJ and LeBron. Penny Hardaway is another big What If.
Honestly the lakers were better off getting pau than kevin garnett. Pau was a perfect complement and was 2nd team all nba in 2015 which proved his longevity. KG was toast by 2012
When a lot of people talk about the most curse team is clippers, from this video orlando maybe with the most what if scenario. Penny and shaq duo, trio duncan t-mac and hill, or trio t-mac hill and rookie dwight howard, give a perfect fit player during prime dwight howard that all im saying
The Orlando Big 3 is a myth: in 2000 free agency, the Magic had room for two max contracts, which were intended for Grant Hill and Tim Duncan. The Orlando Magic signed McGrady only after Duncan signed back with the Spurs. It was never going to be a "big three" scenario. The misconception started when Grant Hill recalled the Doc Rivers incident during an episode of "The Jump": McGrady was in the same studio and reacted to it as a missed opportunity. Grant Hill, class acting, didn't point out that T-Mac wasn't in the picture at that time. Reality is T-Mac was Orlando's backup plan.
BUT would Pippen have developed into the guy we know today in Seattle? OMG Hakeem, Drexler & MJ on the same team from the get go?!! That would have been scary.
I’m actually happy for Hakeem’s sake that he didn’t end up Jordan’s teammate even if hypothetically they had won eight or nine championships. Because I feel like they would do to Hakeem what they did to Scottie by diminishing how great he was to glorify Jordan’s legacy. Even if Hakeem only ended up with two rings, the way he played leading to those two rings has him a top 10 player and had he won 8 or more second fiddle to Jordan, they likely wouldn’t rank him as high.
i mean hakeem's rings now are given the asterisk that jordan was retired and just returning and that's why he won, so his legacy was affected either way.
Man I think about that til this day myself. What if Kobe, Gasol, and KG were on the lakers together from 2008-on? They would have three-peated at minimum again with both Pau and KG winning 3 rings each and Kobe at least matching MJ for 6. Seeing that Bynum became a bust shortly after the rings he got, and how well Pau played the 5 anyway, would've been a great fit. Then Tim Duncan playing on the Magic would've been crazy, especially with T-Mac and Grant Hill. He would've been a huge help defensively since T-Mac and Grant Hill weren't great defenders. Oh what could've been. Stupid doc Rivers. I also wonder what it would've been like had Chris Paul been able to join the Lakers in 2011 with Pau and Kobe too. Would've been a crazy 1-2-5 punch. As much as I respected David Stern as a commissioner, that was a stupid move on his part.
Remember when melo was thinkin about leavin new york and one of the teams that was interested in him was the bulls before drose got injured that would've been crazy.
Yes! Very crazy. Another franchise for Melo to sabotage with his legendary work ethic and defensive skills. Chicago is a great city to milk the cow as well ($$$) 🤣🤣🤣.
Imagine a prime McGrady, a Healthy Grant Hill, & a prime Tim Duncan

Realistically they don't win anything. Hill was always hurt. TMac was never a winning player. Plus he was hurt a lot too. Duncan would have wasted his prime years in Orlando.
Orlando only had two max slots. It would have been Hill/one of the other two.

In hindsight the only one that is super odd is Doc with Duncan. Most these moves made sense at the time.
Kobe got 2 rings after this and KG only 1. So seems like lakers didn’t really lose out
kobe would have gotten the threepeat however since he lost to KG in the first finals matchup.
With KG, I don't think LA would agressively push for a Pau trade. Man Kobe and KG on the same team would be massive. But without KG, in 2008 LA had a first five of Fisher, Kobe, Lamar, Pau and Bynum. A monstrous first five.
You forgot Jason Kidd almost join the spurs 👀
Now that would’ve been nasty fr
How exactly was this deal going to go down?
Chris Paul to the Lackers 🤔.
lookiing at the Spurs going into the summer of 2000,Robibson was 35 and on the dowside of his career, Elliott was battling kidney issues, there was no Parker or Ginobli yet, so going the team up route cerainly may have looked like the better option
Great video coverage 💯 wow!
Ralph was seen as the next GOAT at that time.
He was a 7'4 monster among boys.
He is the biggest what if in NBA History.
I dont blame the Rockets for not doing it.
@AlHilal-q2v Yes. And, that shows you that not everyone thought that MJ was the second coming.
Love what Kobe is doing to KG in the thumbnail
Man the kobe KG hurts, didn’t know about that 😢😢😢
Please do more of these!
Imagine going to practice and you see KG and Kobe
I feel like if KG would’ve played with Kobe it probably would hurt Kobe‘s Legacy. One of the biggest knocks on Kobe’s career after Shaq left was he needed a superstar to play alongside to win a championship and if he played with KG, that would just further the narrative. We all know KG is better than Pau, numerous of people will always say Kobe won two titles with a teammate who wasn’t on the 75th anniversary team and that’s a flex as well.
“NBA is a game of inches”💀
We all love Andy
Duncan to be Coach by Doc and expect dominance is now Hilarious.
Doc doing Doc thing
Omg kobe, pau and garnett would have been insane!
Scottie in the sonics jersey just looked so wrong lol
If scottie stays with the sonics they dont get kemp or payton. Since their odds in the draft would be worse. So no.
I feel pau gasol was much better for the lakers team than garnette
Why
They would still have Gasol even if they traded for Garnet since they traded Kwame for him. Kobe+Gasol+Garnet combo is deadly af
Andy "perenial" Hoops
It's funny cuz when I was a kid playing ESPN 2k5 I would put KG and Pau on the Lakers
Me too
There was also one with McGrady to Kobe and Shaq Lakers if I remember correctly.
Scott Pippen is hilarious lol
Great video. As a Spurs Fans, I'm glad this didn't happen, it would ruined Duncan Legacy.
5 team trade in 2017 that wouldve resulted in Bledsoe - Paul George - Carmelo landing in Cleveland with Lebron (Kyrie and Klove going out)
Melo and PG confirmed that the deal was basically done but it was called off last minute.
3:09 did he buy that suit from David Byrne?
Best comment I've seen on this channel.
His girlfriend is better
That suit is crazy 😭
Daammnn I remember that tim&mac but never knew about that kg&kobe wowww
Sam and Clyde's sacrifice inevitably set the Trailblazers up to form the Jail blazers dynasty.
The worst part of McHale sending KG to Boston is we barely got anything in return for the Timberwolves. Kevin bled green to the detriment of his own team. What player turned GM would purposely ruin their current team JUST to help their old franchise potentially win another ring?
MJ and Hakeem omg two of the greatest in their positions. I could easily see 10 championships even with those 2 alone.
I doubt KG would still be in LA. No way Kevin McHale was going to help the Lakers out. Front offices say it’s all business but there has been plenty of times gm’s emotions got involved.
Same thing with the lakers not wanting to give up Shaq or Kobe to the Mavs!!!
5:00 Andy is exaggerating like usual. A trio of Gasol, Garnett and Bryant wouldn't be a "perfect fit" because they'd have negative spacing
The reason why Garnett worked so well in Boston is because Pierce and Allen are both great 3 pt shooters
0:13 story of a lot of peoples lives 😂😂😂😂
Jordan and Hakeem would’ve been so unfair😂
Duncan and T Mac would've rivaled Shaq and Kobe ! On any given night Orlando might have the 2 best players in the world on their team , just like LA often had the 2 best players in the world , then if somehow add a healthy Grant Hill !!!
Imagine those finals 🔥🔥
@@SilentMovements305 Oh man !! Would've been epic ! They would've met up multiple times too
@@trevorwinn5012 yea they definitely would of met multiple times.
Surprised there wasnt a mention of Lebron, Wade, and Bosh going to chicago with Rose. Trade never happened cause the Bulls wouldn’t give up Luol Deng
it never happened because it was never likely. the heat colluded for years to make it happen, ever since they all mentioned wanting to play together at the olympics. it is no coincidence that the year before free agency lebron filed to have his number changed (miami and chicago have 23 retired for jordan) and miami literally had all expiring contracts to afford 3 star players. riley was given a heads up by wade that this could really happen and riley acted accordingly. then they all played the song and dance in free agency to avoid collusion and tampering charges.
don’t think the Pao trade would’ve happened if KG was around
If the Sonics drafted Pip, they probably wouldn't have traded GP. More interesting to me is if the Kemp and Ricky Pierce trade in 94 went through.
Mamba and KG would’ve been crazy
Reality is T-Mac was Orlando's backup plan.
and it would have failed either way since hill was the problem in these scenarios.
IMAGINE KG AND KOBE VS TIMMY AND TMAC!
WOW
There was that Kobe to the Mavs trade that could of happened. Kobe and Dirk would of been crazy
It was actually Dirk to the Lakers and Shaq to the Mavs trade deal proposal.
I dont blame doc but im a big Tim duncan fan
An event, big or small, can alter the course of a player's career or franchise.
BUT would Pippen have developed into the guy we know today in Seattle?
OMG Hakeem, Drexler & MJ on the same team from the get go?!! That would have been scary.
don't think the houston thing happens. they would have made their 97-98 super team instead by drafting barkley to replace sampson.
12 seconds in and I gotta pause what you said
I don’t understand why the Sonics helped the Bulls. Sonics could’ve taken Polynice with the 5th pick outright.
there was probably something else to the trade that wasn't explained.
You forgot, clyde drexler joined rockets on the twilight years of his career and he won a title with hakeem(1995)
I definitely do not think KG and Kobe would have meshed well enough to win two chips like with Gasol
Major pause at the start of this video 😭
If KG actually went to the Lakers then we might have gotten a Kobe vs Lebron in the finals...
Remember when melo was thinkin about leavin new york and one of the teams that was interested in him was the bulls before drose got injured that would've been crazy.
Yes! Very crazy. Another franchise for Melo to sabotage with his legendary work ethic and defensive skills. Chicago is a great city to milk the cow as well ($$$) 🤣🤣🤣.
melo was of course whipped however and let his wife decide his playing career. thus he wasted away doing nothing in new york for years.
There was also a proposed trade Allen Iverson to Minnesota to team up with KG back in 07 but Allen Iverson went to Denver
Iverson in '07 was washed up by then. Nothing to see here kids, move on now.
@Trancymind Denver went to the Conference Finals in 08 but yeah after that I agree.
