As you say here, the combat isn’t that impactful, that part could have been better as we do a lot of shooting. But I’m enjoying the ambiance a lot.
I have to say even though I was looking forward to this for months, I kept my expectations reasonable and I was definitely pleasantly surprised. The thing about the humour dragging on is simply Justin not knowing when to call it a day, Dan Harmon is not around to reign him in but that's not as much of a turn off for me as it understandably could be for some. Overall pretty damn solid, streets ahead of Trover which was also enjoyable (in VR).
Played on PC. I was very surprised at how good this game actually came out. Love Justin Roland's humor, beautiful environments, and better than expected gunplay and platforming. I definitely recommend it, especially if you like this style of humor.
Hey, pedantic game designer here. Shotguns are actually not the easiest weapon to get right. There are a number of dynamics to consider including slugs, spread, and incidentals like weight and recoil. Those all affect the variable utility of the weapon in different gameplay scenarios, from CQC to crowd control. Sniper rifles, however ARE the easiest weapons to get right. Explicit utility and functionality makes it pretty simple to hone in on what matters. Anyway, luv ya! 💖
I just think its poorly optimised for the majority of systems people have. im running a clocked 3070 system and shouldnt have to go 1080p, basically minimum/med graphics to not have my temps go through the roof and strange fps dips
This game was such a blast. The combat is great, the platforming is simple and enjoyable, the dialogs are hilarious, some missions are so messed up and unexpected, I was laughing out loud so many times.
This game reminded me of Oddworld Stranger's Wrath. Really having fun time so far. It's a bonkers game for sure. And the humour really suits me. Great work from Squanch Games. This kind of games are why game pass is really good for the industry. You don't see Devs taking risk anymore. Glad it's here.
Just finished it last night. Absolutely loved it. One of the most straight up just fun games. Felt like a classic video game. The chatter from the guns never got old either which I thought it would.
For anyone saying that the comedy or people talk too much - there is an option in the game to scale up or down the amount of talking. So while the criticism about constant talking is recognized, its very easily fixable for anyone.
I downloaded this game for free on Gamepass. I finished it in a few sittings over the course of about a week. I enjoyed it a lot and I'm happy I played it. That being said, I'm also very happy I did not spend $60 on this game.
just finished this game and its fantastic, best game ive played since elden ring and the only fps to hold my attention all the way through for years. in a weird way i got ps1 spyro vibes from this, from the great music and zany characters to that feeling of joy i used to have playing games as a kid, kinda bummed out that its over tbh. Can't wait for dlc or a sequel!
This game is A LOT of fun and a great time. When I finish the first playthrough I'm going to start over and play again lol the gameplay is good, the dialogue is hilarious and not annoying, everything clicks in this game. Love it! Amazing art style too!
I enjoyed the game, spent 90% of my time exploring areas I wasn't supposed to access yet by using the jump mechanic to get there. At one point the suit assistant (Suity?) Came on screen and went "You cheated. You shouldn't be here yet. You know you cheated. We won't deduct points or whatever, but you're cheating." I don't know exactly what triggered it as I was miles off course and in an area made for a few hours later, but it was cool and I haven't seen anything online about it.
The fact they also released it now when it kinda seems like we are a bit starved on new good games lately is probably another plus for them. If this were to release alongside something like a new halo or whatever they would take a big hit. Also with it being free on gamepass a lot of people are gonna try it at least.
Switching through all the weapons, jet packing around and bashing your way as well I felt the combat felt pretty great! A nice breath of fresh air I loved every comedic aspect to the game! The final boss fight can feel a bit cheap in certain sections but that’s about it lol 😂
I loved all the banter in the game, the highway people, the construction workers, I shit myself laughing at it, it's so wholesome, I loved every second of it
It has been a blast to play. We get so many of the same FPS these days. It was great playing a fun FPS that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's goofy and I'm looking forward to whatever Justin Roiland comes up with next.
I absolutely loved this game, hope for a dlc/sequel the first ~2 hours or so were very MID in my opinion but like you said, after unlocking some new weapons and movement abilities it gets really fun
Played 4hrs now and I really like it so far, the commentary feels refreshing and the jokes are so dumb that they're funny. Also I haven't watched a single Rick & Morty episode but this game really encouraged me to change it
This is your game of the year? We had Elden Ring, God of War, even Stray was better. This is just Rick and Morty but not funny. And recent Rick and Morty hasn’t even been all that great. If this is your game of the year, play a second game.
@@ArkSucksAtGames I don’t agree that this is game of the year but for the record this is a comedy game and comedy is entirely subjective. I thought some bits of it were funny but others weren’t. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t funny. It means it wasn’t funny to me.

The best kinds of jokes that Justin writes are the super meta ones & they work so well in the context of video games. I love all 3 of Squanch's games because of that. It's genuinely brilliant writing.
Very very impressive game. The writing is really good. The visuals especially the gun are very very next gen. I believe this is what gaming needed. This was a serious home run for game pass. I think that if they drop a couple updates to clear a couple things and maybe drop some type of DLC… H.O.L will truly be golden. They might have a series in there hands 👀🙌🏽
I have had a blast playing this game so far. Great change of pace from the never ending sequels, and “new games” from studios that are just the same mechanics with a new coat of paint. It sucks that publishers probably have the ability to fund games like this but choose not to in favor of yet another live service borefest.
This game is amazing !! I feel like I’ve been waiting for a game like this for years! It’s so weird, so random! Yet weirdly familiar. I feel like I’m playing a tv show and I can’t wait to see how it ends
When I first loaded up the game and picked up the weapon to hear Justin’s voice, I was left speechless.. this game is amazing because of its ridiculous humour
I think the level design in this game goes under the radar and is one of the best parts. One of my favorite things to do as my character progressed with the unlocked movements was to go back to the old areas because places like the slums and zephyr play like completely different levels when you have the jetpack and some more guns
Ah so happy you guys decided to review this game after all!!! It's such a good game. I'm at least chuckling every moment, if not laughing uproariously. When the guns get excited for you when you use their Trickhole Abilities, they get me even more amped up by how encouraging they are lol.
After finishing it and experiencing all the creative, original and entertaining things it has to offer aside from completing the core game...It was completely unexpected, but absolutely was the best game of 2022 to me. That's for sure. Im looking forward to the hinted at sequel.
I am a picky guy when rating games and I gave this game a 10 out of 10. This is a amazing experience. Love the weapons and their secondary is really well made. I think the shot gun is perfect you need to use its suction mechanic. Played this game on most difficult setting which just made it more fun
@@TMeek94 il give it a 10 lol. I like to rate my games in a bias way and then a non bias why. High on life is probably a 8 out of 10 when it comes to its issues but I enjoyed the game 10 out of 10 especially on the hardest difficulty
@@Blaster-Rat it is if you have a brain If you give something a 10, and then something is better, if you give it a 10 you're saying it's as good as the previous game, despite you thinking it's better Just give it a 9.5 or something
I wonder if we'll end up getting more unique games like this because of gamepass and ps+. There really is not much risk involved when the majority of players don't actually have to "pay" for your product. It's kind of a perfect formula. It doesn't matter if you're into the humor or not, you can't say that this game isn't unique and I definitely want to see devs taking more risks like this.
I really enjoyed the way you reviewed the game. It just feels like as if i asked you how the game is on person and you are telling me your opinions right there and then. Doesnt feel forced or scripted.
So far I've played this game up until you get the 3rd gatlian. I fell in love with this game IMMEDIATELY. Easily top 5 of my favorites, if not contender for my favorite game of all time. I'm a HUGE Roiland fan and love just about everything he's put out, although admittedly I haven't played his/his team's other games
It was an amazing game, a great change of pace for me and I absolutely LOVED it. however, it should've been 40 bucks max considering the 10-hour story but if you have game pass, you have to try it.
That's wild. Yall described it almost exactly how I would have. I totally agree that Gus was oddly weak and I felt like him and Kenny should have bantered back and forth way more than they did. I really enjoyed it towards the end when they were all conversating together. I had no problem with the talking guns. Only time I was annoyed was the tutorial-ish part where they kept trying to steer me on course while I was exploring. It was a surprisingly great game.
I was expecting to have fun time with the jokes but the gameplay aswell actually surprised me, i was laughing most of the time while enjoying the guns mechanics. I really liked this one
From what I’ve seen of Justin Rolland’s work (in particular clips from this game, Rick And Morty and Trover Saves The Universe) it sucks that the humor seems to rely solely on being annoying because the sci fi concepts and worlds seem really interesting.
@@bruhtholemew - I’m saying comparatively video games have stayed $60 for most AAA titles over 30 years, complain about something that has actually inflated is the point
I really don't need the disclaimer that this game is divisive at the top of the video was necessary. People should already be somewhat familiar before watching these before you buys imo. At least that's how I interpret these videos since they are pretty exclusively for marquee releases that people are familiar with. Anyways, I'm so glad this game exists. This feels like a game from years past where not every game was designed to reach the widest possible audience and cast the widest possible net. This game isn't going to be for everyone and that is exactly why it is so charming. As you said, if you like Rick and Morty, you're going to like this. Accounting+ (devs precious release in VR) was such a pleasant surprise. I remember hearing about it and buying it randomly one night for the original Oculus Rift. Admittedly I smoked a joint before firing it up, but I laughed so damn hard at that game. That damn tree guy had me in stitches and it was unlike anything I'd ever experienced in a game. Especially with it feeling so intimate in VR, it was unlike anything I'd ever experienced in the medium. This game is expanded on that and I really really like being able to thoroughly laugh at a video game. It's a unique premise of a game in a sea of action adventure open world games that tend to blend together. The industry could really benefit from weird games like this and I truly hope other games follow in its footsteps. The price tag is very steep for what it is and only huge fans of Rick and Morty should pick it up. Otherwise you run the risk of being disappointed. But that's coming from a PC gamer who has been spoiled with a cheap games perspective for years. If you're more used to console pricing then I have no issues with the price. In fact I have no regrets with my purchase because I knew what I was in for by thoroughly researching it, but I can see people being disappointed. If you're not sure maybe wait a few months. I can imagine it will drop to $40 before too long and that feels about right to me. Again I'm so happy this even exists. They really took a chance with this game and they didn't half ass it at all. This is a polished product with great graphics and pretty top tier animations which really helps to deliver the comedy. It's two strongest attributes. The gaming industry could really use weird games and it could really use funny games. It feels like it's been awhile since we've seen a big release that takes so many chances like this and it really nails what it sets out to do. People are going to hate this game and complain about it online. That is exactly why it's a good product. It knows what it offers and never strays from that to try and appeal outside of its target demographic. One of my favorite experiences in 2022 no doubt. Such a pleasant surprise.
Sidenote: that's my issue with a lot of shows in streaming as well. They have no time limit, so they shove as much as they can instead of cutting out the duds
For me the most surprising part of the game is the replay value. If you choose bounties in a different order (which means you unlock guns in a different order) it unlocks different options and dialogues.
Man this game brought me back to the Ratchet and Clank days on the PS2. Old school game vibes hard from High on Life. While not GOTY, a solid 8 out of 10 from me.
Literally so refreshing. Especially since I rarely even play single player games. This game has hinted toward a sequel and or DLC…. I do hope for more content.

Played on PC. I was very surprised at how good this game actually came out. Love Justin Roland's humor, beautiful environments, and better than expected gunplay and platforming. I definitely recommend it, especially if you like this style of humor.
I honestly love it so much. I loved trovers too! I just wish there was more dialogue for Knifey I think he is hilarious
Sameee. He's the quietest.
This game's level of personality and passion shows. I'm loving it.
Played it through over the last couple days. I really enjoyed it! It's incredibly fun for a 'parody' game. Falcon's points are dead on.
I finished the game today. Really lots of fun, but I would have loved a few more missions.
Hoping for DLC
Hoping they release some updates/performance fixes soon. Looks like a solid game with great writing and crazy gameplay.
There is a day patch. It improves the performance a bit.
The second patch released today, its 16gb
2 patches in and still a number of issues, but it's not hampering my time with it.
@@justrok79 I just need fov slider on pc.. Thats the biggest issue imo
I love this game.. it’s so refreshing to have a bit of good comedy ejected into a game these days! Having a great time with it
This game reminded me of Oddworld Stranger's Wrath. Really having fun time so far. It's a bonkers game for sure. And the humour really suits me. Great work from Squanch Games. This kind of games are why game pass is really good for the industry. You don't see Devs taking risk anymore. Glad it's here.
⬆️
Just finished it last night. Absolutely loved it. One of the most straight up just fun games. Felt like a classic video game. The chatter from the guns never got old either which I thought it would.
For anyone saying that the comedy or people talk too much - there is an option in the game to scale up or down the amount of talking. So while the criticism about constant talking is recognized, its very easily fixable for anyone.
Or just don't play the game. At that point it's just another shooter.
This is genuinely one of the funniest games I've ever played.
Humor of an immature child.

@@GutWrencher bro it's alright if u dont like this type of humor. No need to go out of your way to insult people who do.
"Funniest" uhhh guess my IQ isn't high enough to understand where the humor is.
@@hellgirl1029. considering that’s the third time you’ve tried to make that joke to no effect, it’s easy to see how humour is subjective…
Somebody memed this game with the "I'll tell my kids this was Cyberpunk 2077" and I can't stop seeing it that way :))
What a dope encounter
It's good to hear the game is not only jokes, honestly I might play this, but definitely looks like a game for a very specific audience
this game took me back in time, honestly one the best games I’ve played this year.
I loved all the banter in the game, the highway people, the construction workers, I shit myself laughing at it, it's so wholesome, I loved every second of it
Almost done with this game! Love it! Just plain and simple fun
It has been a blast to play. We get so many of the same FPS these days. It was great playing a fun FPS that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's goofy and I'm looking forward to whatever Justin Roiland comes up with next.
I absolutely loved this game, hope for a dlc/sequel
the first ~2 hours or so were very MID in my opinion but like you said, after unlocking some new weapons and movement abilities it gets really fun
The fact that he kept going and going about the humor aspect of this game not being that bad makes me believe that it actually is not that good.
This game isn’t getting the best reviews but for some reasons I still want to play it
Just because you enjoy mustard on your hamburger doesn't mean you want to eat a bowl full of mustard.
Played 4hrs now and I really like it so far, the commentary feels refreshing and the jokes are so dumb that they're funny.
Also I haven't watched a single Rick & Morty episode but this game really encouraged me to change it
Such a good game, easily my game of the year. It had me laughing so much and it’s fun and simple to play
@@ArkSucksAtGames why can't you let people have their own opinion? So what Elden Ring or GOW aren't his Game of the Year, it doesn't matter, it's what he enjoys playing. My Game of the Year is Gotham Knights, Because I found it super fun despite it's flaws, and still enjoy it.
@@ArkSucksAtGames It's HIS game of the year lol
@@imel3ment4l10 because he is a sony bot. someone gifted me the gotham knights , but i want to finish lego star wars , high on life and calisto protocol 1st. m game of the year so far was plague tale req so far.
The best kinds of jokes that Justin writes are the super meta ones & they work so well in the context of video games. I love all 3 of Squanch's games because of that. It's genuinely brilliant writing.
Also in the voice cast is Jen Hale as 9 Torg. Really great voice talent here. Will definitely play this one.
Wow. The art direction is amazing. This might be the first game I’ve seen where it legitimately looks like you are playing a Disney Pixar film.
play kena bridge of spirits
Kena too ya, both look really good
I have had a blast playing this game so far. Great change of pace from the never ending sequels, and “new games” from studios that are just the same mechanics with a new coat of paint. It sucks that publishers probably have the ability to fund games like this but choose not to in favor of yet another live service borefest.
And open world bullshit
The fact that you can sit on the couch in the living room and watch full length movies is hilarious
This game is amazing !! I feel like I’ve been waiting for a game like this for years! It’s so weird, so random! Yet weirdly familiar. I feel like I’m playing a tv show and I can’t wait to see how it ends
Amazing game! Did not expect to love it so much and the fact its on gamepass makes things even better!
This is honestly one of the best games released this year. Future c.ult classic for sure, if not the start of a new franchise.
I haven't had so much fun on a video game in such a long time. Absolutely loved it and played it for free.
Ah so happy you guys decided to review this game after all!!! It's such a good game. I'm at least chuckling every moment, if not laughing uproariously. When the guns get excited for you when you use their Trickhole Abilities, they get me even more amped up by how encouraging they are lol.
Amazing game, I've had so much fun with this. I hope they make a dlc or even a sequel to this.
I hope so too! Not on a shit-box though
I had sessional exams so I've been off gameranx videos this is my first video back 🙌🏾
We’re going to look back and be embarrassed of this game like we were embarrassed of mustache jokes 10 years ago
This game is awesome genuinely had a great time playing and was already a fan of the comedy before playing
This is fantastic, I miss games with dark humor build into it.
You forgot about the divorce lawyer. That storyline was a funny and fun way to start this game 😂

No, "to call it divisive" would be incorrect.
The word you were looking for is _"polarizing."_
You aren't picky if you give anything a 10/10 lol
What happens if you play a game you think is better than this?
@@TMeek94 il give it a 10 lol. I like to rate my games in a bias way and then a non bias why. High on life is probably a 8 out of 10 when it comes to its issues but I enjoyed the game 10 out of 10 especially on the hardest difficulty
@@kooglekgs9961 then that means you don't think it's better if you give it the same score
@@TMeek94 That's not how scores work but ok.
@@Blaster-Rat it is if you have a brain
If you give something a 10, and then something is better, if you give it a 10 you're saying it's as good as the previous game, despite you thinking it's better
Just give it a 9.5 or something
I found this game beautifully hilarious
I wonder if we'll end up getting more unique games like this because of gamepass and ps+. There really is not much risk involved when the majority of players don't actually have to "pay" for your product. It's kind of a perfect formula. It doesn't matter if you're into the humor or not, you can't say that this game isn't unique and I definitely want to see devs taking more risks like this.
I really enjoyed the way you reviewed the game. It just feels like as if i asked you how the game is on person and you are telling me your opinions right there and then. Doesnt feel forced or scripted.
1:06 - 1:18 all I needed to know, thank you
So far I've played this game up until you get the 3rd gatlian. I fell in love with this game IMMEDIATELY. Easily top 5 of my favorites, if not contender for my favorite game of all time. I'm a HUGE Roiland fan and love just about everything he's put out, although admittedly I haven't played his/his team's other games
The trover games are great, they're basically the building blocks of this game.
This game definitely deserves a 8/10
It was most unique game I’ve played in like 8 years.
It was an amazing game, a great change of pace for me and I absolutely LOVED it. however, it should've been 40 bucks max considering the 10-hour story but if you have game pass, you have to try it.
Defo longer than ten hours if you don't rush it
Gus is INSANE if you get the flak mod 4:30
That's wild. Yall described it almost exactly how I would have. I totally agree that Gus was oddly weak and I felt like him and Kenny should have bantered back and forth way more than they did. I really enjoyed it towards the end when they were all conversating together. I had no problem with the talking guns. Only time I was annoyed was the tutorial-ish part where they kept trying to steer me on course while I was exploring. It was a surprisingly great game.
Also it was a trip when you guys mention Odd World because I thought the same.
Looks good but a little pricey for it’s asking price of $60
It could be $70 and still worth every penny
Cmon man we were paying more for N64 games…
@@fintanbochra And? Why tf would I want to pay even more?
Worth the money
@@bruhtholemew - I’m saying comparatively video games have stayed $60 for most AAA titles over 30 years, complain about something that has actually inflated is the point
That one rare moment when i finish a game before gameranx releases a before you buy, something i religiously watch before purchasing. FUN GAME !
This games visuals are incredible. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this level of detail. Crazy fun game.
Sidenote: that's my issue with a lot of shows in streaming as well. They have no time limit, so they shove as much as they can instead of cutting out the duds
Playing this game feels like a fever dream
It is
For me the most surprising part of the game is the replay value.
This game is the shit like seriously it's so great and if anyone else tells you otherwise they're lying.
That's not how opinions work, you mook
Literally so refreshing. Especially since I rarely even play single player games. This game has hinted toward a sequel and or DLC…. I do hope for more content.
I love this game it’s like rick and morty
I know this sounds ridiculous but I'd almost buy this game just cause I respect how much effort seems to have gone into it and I want to support this kind of art.
I completed the game with all the achievements, and I just want to say that playing trough all of it was a unique experience, specially the first time i played it. I want more games like this soon
This might be one of the games of all time
Pay $85 dollars to find out why Rick and Morty sucks now
