My friend invited this guitar player he knew for a long time to a jam we had in San Diego circa 2010. His name was Nate Mercereau, and at that time he was playing with D'Angelo and Sheila E up in the Bay Area. He was a very good guitar player but what was unbelievable was that people were playing original songs that Nate had never heard and he played the song as though he had heard it many times before, and I'm not talking about traditional progressions...I'm talking about very unique songs that don't follow traditional progressions. It was hard to believe but I was there and he did it to one of my songs.
I am Not a pro But the educated high level pros know Everything about scales chords theory etc. I have worked with Pros who can break a new song down immediately. Yes it is Awesome. Much respect👑🇺🇸. I know a pro who had to substitute guitar to bass for stadium concerts. On the spot. Same day for a World famous star.
one comment and a question: "Voodoo" is one of my top 5 albums, right up there with The Beatles' "Rubber Soul," Wilco's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot," and A Tribe Called Quest's "Midnight Marauders." On “Voodoo” D'Angelo had Questlove on the drums in the studio, with no loops or click track. The production on "Voodoo" is incredible-every track is smooth, funky, and soulful. By the way, do you have perfect pitch? I have to slide my finger along the low E string to find the key and then noodle around for a few minutes to find the chord. Your ability to find that G7 was 😮...
@chamham6734 You have great taste in music would you give my first album a go? It's called Separate Checks by me A Keithing. I'd love to hear what you think of it!
Actually reggae drums are a little like this. This is why pure rock guys sometimes find reggae challenging I think. It’s a restraint thing less is more
The trick to D’Angelo is to realize it’s just sorcery. Easier on the brain. I fought with “The Root” for weeks, before figuring out it was JUST a pentatonic lick. Made me so mad that I just chose to listen and leave it alone. Deceptively simple turns into aggravatingly complex. Just learn a Blink 182 song and call it a day.
Michael--this is nothing to do with D'Angelo, but you might want to look at the video called "“More to This” From the Stairwell - Acoustic Performance." On the YT channel of Marc Scibilia. From what I've seen on your channel, you might like his music.
I know one of the guitar players who has played in this band in the past, don't think he's in this video, but the guy makes you sick with how good he is.
@@gmcsrbosavl6964 The problem with modern soul and R&B is the conscious decision to remove the gospel influence from the music because they consider it too old fashioned. My wedding band comment is valid because I'm the wedding business here in NYC. I'm an events bartender. I've been watching and listening to wedding bands since the mid 1980's. Donny Hathaway (and his band) had more talent in his little finger than this jerk-off. And only a jerk-off chooses to title his album 'Black Messiah' with the front cover showing off his six-pack. Listen to the Average White Band. Listen to Hi Rhythm Section from Memphis. For more modern soul and R&B, these guys don't hold a candle to what The Dap-Kings do. Check out the players Mark Ronson chooses to work with.
Good to see some D'Angelo on here, his band is insane.
Chris Dave is on another level as a drummer. So much inspiration taken from J Dilla

pretty sure Voodoo was a Jdilla production. The time was all Dilla time so im pretty sure
Black Messiah, as an album is perfection
Agreed! I have been in love with it since it's release
Literally!!! Sugah Daddy will be played UNTIL I DIE, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!
@chamham6734 Yep!!! Hard to pick my favorite on it but that, Back to the future(Part 1) and Prayer are contenders, for today!
@chamham6734 You have great taste in music would you give my first album a go? It's called Separate Checks by me A Keithing. I'd love to hear what you think of it!
@@chamham6734 I enjoy Brown Sugar almost as much as Sugah Daddy
If you got Pino just hanging back by drums your already better off than 99.9%. Its cheating at that point.
i noticed him sittin back there !! whos the drummer ?
@@mattamagiera Chris Dave
This is the kinda stuff I love to see you react to
It was almost illegal not to have Voodoo playing whilst getting busy when I was at college in London. Urban hang suite as a second choice .
Of course he does!
That blue McCarty!!! Sick! I just got the SE version last month. I GOT MAD LOVE FOR PRS GUITARS
Saw em for a 2h set at bluesfest Australian. Incredible energy, tight band, amazing groove.
Great vibes as always! Good stuff. Just what i needed for a wednesday pick-me-up. Much love to you all ❤
havent heard this track before, sounds amazing!
Hey Michael, check out the new Mk.Gee album. I recommend you listening the song Candy. He's the same guitatrist from the Dijon video FYI
Love it. Nothing better than really good live musicians.
"Nanowar of Steel" please, any song you want but I'd like to see your reaction with the song "Valhalleluja" first
Mike being high AF 🎉
I like it
So much damn funk for my morning, thanks
Chris Dave on the skins!
Actually reggae drums are a little like this. This is why pure rock guys sometimes find reggae challenging I think. It’s a restraint thing less is more
I wouldn’t call them the best band ever but they’re certainly accomplished musicians. Funk isn’t my favorite but these guys are great!
I'm not really a PRS guy, but I am a blue with white accent guy, so I have to say... that is a very cool lookin' axe.
yes

the chromatic walk ala sir duke
Where are you? I'm going to see Robin Trower in October.Ill buy you a concert Tix if you want to come.
need you to react to mk gee's new album -- specifically the live versions. some of the best and most unique guitar playing in recent memory
Off topic, but have you ever checked out Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush? Been on a binge myself lately.

Haven't watched this yet but yes
That band was a extremely dangerous combination!!!!!!!
D’Angelo is amazing! For the best band ever, I think it will be Prince with his band.. Rhonda Smith, Renato Netto, John Blackwell, Candy Dulfer
New Power Generation with Sonny T and Michael B on drums. ❤
@@ryanjohnson985 also amazing
Maybe some Mononeon next if you like the funk.
I’m old enough to remember that you didn’t know Jonny Marr was 😅
If you haven't already, check out a band called Dopapod
He just might
More is more
Can you do damn shit mfker live? No one reacts to it. It’s some of the best performances ever specifically in the one in Brazil
Till It's Done from Black Messiah. Enough said
Of course
Ах мой любимый исполнитель
Dude you cut the end part! That's when they really go off as a band.
Yes
Check out the black messiah album
How can less be more? It's impossible. More is more .
Best band I’ve seen live
Ahh just for this video he does

👌👌
UUUUhhhhh??!! Yes. Oui, SI
react to Erra please :) Jesse Cash is my favorite guitar player
D’Angelo is actually a pretty good guitar player himself.
React to more Shawn lane?
Who is the guitarist? He has Prime Steak Chops❤❤❤❤❤ thanks
I think it's Isaiah Sharkey on the hollow body.
And Jessie Johnson from the Time🤓
The best band ever would be Marshall Tucker with Toy and Tommy
Do we really need a translator or whtevr this guys tryin to do ?
Love these videos and especially D' Angelo! Check out my first album Separate Checks it's on all the sites! Yall might dig it!
Nope
yes
They sound like a wedding band.
Sorry, but this is nothing special.
Strong opinion. Give us a sense of your taste so we know whether to take it seriously. Who is special in this genre to your ears?

Really? Damn, were they at? I wanna hire them to make my wedding JUMP!!
Jealousy be ugly, Tom🤓
@@Wordsareprayers I wouldn't be surprised if they're available. D'Angelo is probably busy at a photo shoot having pictures taken of his abs.
