Thanks for the video. My engine was still very clean, so I just removed the bowl while the carb was still on the engine, cleaned a little and made sure the float was moving, put the bowl back on and she fired right up.
I’ve had the same problem over the years with small engines. The gel comes from the ethanol and will form if it sits for a long period of time. Get non ethanol fuel and it will fix the problem.
Wow! What a poor choice for a work area. Take it inside. Get a clean, clear bench. A container to hold the little parts and something to contain parts as you spray them clean / capture the run off, etc. Nice detail, good camera shots/views but working in the dirt with small parts is not a best practice ever. Always a good idea to replace the sealing gaskets rather than clean and reuse the old ones. Thanks for taking us through the R&R
Thanks for the breakdown... Very useful to watch this before I attempted mine... Although.... Mine has a different issue... It floods the entire engine whilst not being used. To the point the cylinder is fuel locked and the fuel find it's way too the engine oil. Hopefully I'll see the problem. Thanks for sharing... 👍👌
". It floods the entire engine whilst not being used." Do you shut the fuel valve off when finished using the machine? We always turn the fuel valve off while the engine is running to let it pull ful from the carb/float bowl, etc. This to help keep the carb clean - not leave OLD FUEL in the system, etc.
Hey I went to start my log splitter and the pull cord was very hard to pull I did pull it once but no more I noticed gas coming from the carburetor so I pulled it off cleaned it still nothing so I decided remove the spark plug and I noticed that there was fuel running out of the spark plug hole can you help
great instruction video! thankyou !! love the cicadas in the background!

Glad to hear you got it going
Screw a bolt into that fuel line to stop the gas from running out. Good video!
Thats a good one! thank you
Very detailed and helpful, I've always been afraid to clean carburetors myself, with this I feel confident to try now, thank you!!
Glad it helped

Absolute rocket scientist level instructions here
Thanks, exactly same splitter and same problem!

Thanks, I appreciate that! It was a quick way to solve a simple problem. But ideally an indoor environment would be nice.

Good luck. I hope it helps. It could be one of the jets is stuck open from being clogged.

You can take bread ties and clean the jets out and other small holes
Unfortunately Dirty Hand Tools have closed its doors. I’m trying to take care of my baby. Thanks
Excellent video
Thank you. More videos on the horizon!
It might be a silly question but what are you using to spray the carburetor with. Great video! Thank you
A spray can of Carb Cleaner from walmart or a parts store, etc. It was maybe $3 a can or so.
That's a good engine.

Does the fuel continuously flow out of the plug hole? Or does it drain what fuel is inside and then stops?
Just replied to your question in the regular comment section. The reply didn't post correctly.
Did all but will start but die quickly what next
Carb may need a deeper cleaning. Make sure fuel is getting to the carb also.
Idiot proof explanation. Thanks
nice video, the carburetor work like new after cleaning. Good job.
Thanks. I'm planning on doing another video soon on how to change the piston seals.
