I remember back in late 1997 on a visit to St Louis as an SCM consultant, I met with some of the F-15 project managers, technicians and workers. Boeing had just taken over McDonnell Douglas a few months prior, and the F-22 prototype had its maiden flight barely a month later. All the guys were thinking about the future, worried about being in a program that was about to be wound down - after all, the F-22 was where things would be at. They didn't want to be rendered obsolete with a platform that was about to be superseded. Still, whilst many were making broadstroke plans to transfer to new programs, they all pretty much thought the F-15 may have another few good years left... Ummmm....yep. A few decades it seems now. The reality is now that the F-15 will be in service with the USAF and other AFs well into the 2040s even as 6th generation fighters mature. That's a testament to the people who designed it in the 1960s, the officials who supported it and the pilots and crew who love it and keep it in the air. It's simply one of the greatest fighters ever made and with a bit of luck, some examples may still be in some type of service in the 2070s...100 years in the air. F-22s might disagree on the cutting edge part. Especially if pilots who flew both types are to be believed. Still a very good missile truck though, especially for the price and longevity.
Honestly I’m all for the f-15 but since these are only going into national guard service the aircraft won’t get the same maintenance and readiness attention as for say an f-35, which is why none the the guard bases in the running for new aircraft have gone out and said they want these, the pilots are split too, here at Barnes ANG base only 6-7 planes work out of 20 and some pilots know that they won’t need new training to fly the f-15ex however, other pilots want newer working aircraft that will have active duty readiness which the f-35 would offer.

Indonesian here, I grew up loving the French Tanguy et Laverdure comic series. The 2040c is basically the f-15x. It has a much stronger wing that can hold something like 22 air 2 air missiles. It also has improved sensors with a flat screen 19” display similar to the f-35. Will be used like a missile truck. It is going to be a nice upgrade to the legacy c and d models that are extremely old. Making the f-15x as a missile truck makes a lot of sense. Let the stealth jets find the enemy and the f-15x will take them out from a distance. Now, the next thing is to get the AAMRAM to be able to fire from longer distance which they are working on now.
Great work , Boeing ! In my opinion, these types of massive upgrades are smart , flexible and practical. You should do the same with the 757 and 767 , already approved , by upgrading engines , wings , avionics , interiors, etc. and have a ready 180 - 250 Passenger Plane , avoiding China going after that segment .
The F-15EX is largely based on the F-15SA (Saudi Arabia) and F-15QA (Qatar). Those countries basically paid the R&D bill, and for once the USAF gets the benefits. Eight F-15EXs were just ordered a year or so ago and already the first one is completed. Just needs a paint job!

Well the f-22 was the f-35 was for the f-16 primary and the morons thought they could replace the A-10 with it. Which the computer is good enough you can get low and slow. But you don’t have the gun or armor. That was just a budget thing a lot of the time that talk is just to get congress to commit to buying it. They don’t actually mean it. - the issue with the F-22 & F-35 is before you go on a mission where you require stealth you have to pretty much repaint it and smooth out the LO coating. Also after you hit Mach 1.8 the LO coating literally starts chipping off and starts to melt. Where the f-15 can hit Mach 2.5 for short burst and you won’t have to worry. All though I think they should put f-119 or f-135 engines in it and make it sustain higher Mach numbers for longer.

It's a completely different airframe than the original versions. Boeing recreated all the ribs, spars, added stringers etc etc. Also improved capability, newer airfoil, larger fuel tanks, and larger engines. This new f15 isnt even remotely similar to previous f15. I'm actually glad they did this. Now if only they could do something for the F22.

The variable air inlet ramps drop down after engine start. Once the jet is in the air the ramp inlet system is constantly moving to ensure proper diffused air flow to the engines. I am an F-15 crew chief. That ramp system is pretty impressive. Changing a diffuser ramp actuator isn’t fun though.
I was 10 years old some 45 years ago when I fell in love with the F15. Amazing to see her still reign supreme.

Why? F-15Cs are still single-seat. The E model has a crew of two for ground attack missions, not because the pilot has issues flying the plane alone.
single seat planes have more fuel and less weight the 2 seat thing is outdated ,modern electronics and displays mean 1 pilot can easily manage the task at hand i would like to have seen this go back to single seat

It's a completely different airframe than the original versions. Boeing recreated all the ribs, spars, added stringers etc etc. Also improved capability, newer airfoil, larger fuel tanks, and larger engines. This new f15 isnt even remotely similar to previous f15. I'm actually glad they did this. Now if only they could do something for the F22.

i think the inlets change shape during flight, to allow more airflow. I think it exist in previous model as well

Maybe because the right engine starts first.
The variable air inlet ramps drop down after engine start. Once the jet is in the air the ramp inlet system is constantly moving to ensure proper diffused air flow to the engines.
I am an F-15 crew chief. That ramp system is pretty impressive. Changing a diffuser ramp actuator isn’t fun though.
