    The RCAF does not operate the F/A-18C variant of the legacy hornets. They operate the earlier A and B variants designated as CF188A and CF188B. Blows my mind that a representative from Boeing stated incorrect information in a video meant to persuade the RCAF into buying their new super hornets

    Canada is looking to replace its' entire fleet of original [or legacy] F/A-18s and one of the front runners is the Super Hornet Block III, which is the reason he is referencing the RCAF in the video. Many reasons for this; twin engines, follow-on continuity with a familiar and reliable aircraft, and the RCAF prioritizes interoperability with the USAF and US Navy. Super Hornet Block III brings a lot to the table in terms of ordnance load-out, technology and of course twin engine reliability over our northern territories when intercepting Russian aircraft. Just an opinion of course, but I think when the smoke clears from the fighter jet competition, the RCAF will choose the Block III over the F-35 and the Gripen. Those are great jets but with only one engine that is a huge disadvantage in this competition considering the vast frontier of patrolling the arctic.

    Great piece of kit. Just one question though. Does all these enhancements have any negative effect on its dogfighting skills? Is it a better dogfighter than the previous versions or is it better. I’m not talking about any technical reasons why it would be such as a better radar or a less prominent cross section, I’m talking about the close in knife fight in a telephone box. In close n dirty. If anyone knows I would be happy to hear. Thanks everyone n so glad Canada is finally getting this jet.

      The conformal fuel tanks make her a tad sluggish when they're full, but if the weight is reasonable, there is no _real_ difference between a Block II and a Block III.

    • @trashpanda314
      @trashpanda314 2 роки тому +4

      The Hornet/Super Hornet is a multi-role fighter. It was never designed to be a air superiority fighter, and among the US teen series fighters the Hornet is the slowest and least capable in a dogfight. It is however, a great multi-role fighter with a big tool box of capabilities and missions. The F-35 will progress Naval aviation significantly, and the new blocks of Super Hornets will supplement the F-35’s well into the future. Especially as a tanker, ordinance carrier, and electronic attack platform(Growler).

    unfortunately USN doesn't add MAWS and IR Jammer on their SHornet Block III and then USN doesn't want give SHornet Block II with new engine, F414 EPE. The marginal improvement IMO

    Fun fact: a single f135 is more powerful than the F/a-18 dual engine

      Ravi Sharma f135 is the engine name. Two f414 engine powers f/a-18. A single f135 is more powerful than two f414.

      Because it has a larger diameter and a higher hypass ratio with tech from the F119 as well, duh? Really fair to compare 2010 technology to late 1990s to 2000s technology right?

      The Hornet is my fav, but you can't deny the F35 has advantages. Primarily the ability to shoot first due to it being detected last with it lower radar cross-section. Although the F35 has a slower top speed to give its missile energy in long range BVR.

      Well yeah, but it would be more expensive than just getting the f35, because of crew training, and overall inefficiency and expense. This is why the American aircraft carriers only carry a couple types of jets now, unlike before in the 1970-90 where they had a kajillion different planes. Also the Canadian military budget isn’t as big as for example, America or China.
