Excellent 👌 video. I need to get that suede protector spray 😊. I remember as a teenager getting a pair of LA Gear high top sneakers in mostly white with lilac and pink laces 😍😍😍😍😍 I cleaned after every single use 😊. Now as a parent I just don't have the time and energy to clean my shoes after every use, but I still clean them regularly and use a leather conditioner on my shoes. When I swap my shoes for the upcoming season they all get a good clean and any shoes that need new soles get seen too then, they get stored away until the following season. I need to start decluttering the summer wardrobe and prepping for the colder weather. If you look after your things they last much longer, thank you for educating the masses 😂
Great video. I am building a new wardrobe following a four stone weight lost. I am shopping pre loved as I can not afford to replace every quality item in one go. Following your videos I am inspired as to what to look out for. I tend to wear very classic outfits which does help. I tend to wear mainly separates and do a lot of mix and match.
I'm an operations manager for a large volume resale company and we get some amazing shoes in terrible condition. I've equipped my shoe pricer with a cleaning /restoring kit and I'm adding a few things from your video. Great content!
Emma, this was perfect!! I’ve just bought a pair of trainers which were more “fancy” than my usual ones and I was literally just about to start trawling through google!!! Thank you!!! Loving all of your content, as usual ❤
I just used this spray to protect my daughter's new shoes. She's 8 and has the exact same version of the New Balance and Chuck Taylor's you use (but kids size) in the video. She feels super trendy now.
Heh heh, I do love the British vernacular .... here in the Colonies, most of us refer to them as 'Tennis shoes' ..... though some people say 'Sneakers' ..... but in the U.K. the term 'Trainers' is the go to term! 8-)
This is super informative! Thank you Emma! I have a question regarding the shoes with combination of mesh and suede materials like a lot of New Balance shoes. While you covered to use suede brush to clean the suede part, how about the mesh/fabric part? Thank you!
I have been watching a fair few trainer cleaning videos lately after getting my Nike Air Max Dawns muddy. This was really thorough and informative and has made me rethink whether I need to bother with expensive cleaners like FZ150, Reshoevn8r etc,
Hi Emma. A very informative and practical video today and I’m definitely up for any advice to increase the longevity of items. I actually really dislike dirty shoes, including trainers so I do try and look after them.💖🌸
I also use protective spray on all my new leather and suede, or light-colored canvas, footwear. I also use it on my light- to medium-colored bags, whether leather, suede or “straw”, and my leather/suede jackets and other clothes. It keeps everything cleaner much longer. I use two light coats, allowing them each to dry. Of course, I renew it after cleaning the item. Most of my sneakers I toss in the wash eventually, leather trim or not. They come out great. I remove the insoles and laces first and put them in a delicates bag.
They might come out nice and clean but washing your trainers in a washing machine will lessen their life span which is why it’s not advised. Each to their own, not everyone has the time to hand wash their trainers but I just want to inform folks of the damage it’s doing x
The first thing I do with dirty shoes is brush the gross dirt off, they have to be dry, mud will smear. Then I go over them with a gum artist’s eraser, the pink erasers can transfer their dye to the shoes. If that’s not enough, I go to progressively more vigorous cleaning methods, but just brushing makes a big difference. I step outside to do it.
Did you use any specific protectant for your veja campo shoes when they were new? Wondering if there is a particular protectant you used for veja campo fabric like that!
Emma have you ever tried cleaning them with Cif rather than the magic eraser? I always use it on mine before applying the protector spray and have always had brilliant results! Also thank you for your ever amazing content, I enjoy it so very much, top notch! A big hello to Simon as well 😌
Hi Emma, although my trainers' collection is not as big as yours, I hate dirty in my footwear..I always forget to use protective spray...thank you for another amazing video..❤
This video is amazing! I just watched the one about summer trainers deciding whether to get my first pair of New Balance's but being unsure about the suede. This showing how to properly maintain them is just what I needed. Once again, amazing content Emma! 🤍
I do it exactly the same quiet regularly. I‘m putting the laces into my washing machine by using a washing bag after letting it soak in Vanish. They do look brand new since years. I did replace a sneaker but never a lace. 😂 Something I learned from my shoemaker recently that there is white Sneaker colour to recolour leather trainers and it works really well.
I’d love to know which white recolour product your using as I’ve read reviews from all the well known ones and whilst some are good others say it just peels off after a couple of wears and goes patchy so it looks worse than before 🙈 I always look after my white trainers and clean them regularly so I wouldn’t need it for mine but Simon’s trainers are another story 🤣
@@EmmaHill Sure! I‘m using „Collonil - Sneaker White“ (I‘m in Germany). Reviews were pretty good and my shoemaker recommended it. I primarily use it for my husbands sneakers as well 😂 and very old ones of mine I can‘t get rid of. It‘s not really like usual shoe polish but quite liquidy. It can look a bit patchy at first but if you work it in with the sponge, let it dry and then polish it with a soft flannel it evens out very well. It works for me, even on my very old Stan Smith.
Wow, I was really expecting something way more complex hahaha this is so great, practical, and feasible, thanks a lot, Emma! Just a quick question: how often do you reapply the protector spray on suede trainers? Every couple of months?
Very true, but it should be used with care as it can melt adhesive used on trainers which will lead to them needing more repairs/replacing sooner rather than later x
Yep you totally can but if they’re heavily soiled then it’s best to soak them in stain remover 👍🏼 A 30 degree wash with normal detergent wouldn’t remove stubborn stains, or at least hasn’t from my experience x
Thank you for that! I wish you would have included other kinds of shoes to see how delicate the approche to other sueded shoes, as i just found myself Tod's blue suede slip on loafers at a second hand boutique.
I have a passion for trainers so this video was all about trainers as it’s what I gave the most of but the I use this technique for all shoes. So with a suede loafer I would use the suede brush and rubber, I never ‘clean’ suede in the way of getting it wet as it only ends in disaster. Then it’s all about that protector spray which is more important than anything else x
I've never cleaned my trainers as I don't mind them looking a bit grubby but I have a new white pair I haven't worn yet & I think I'll make an effort to keep these clean now I've seen this! What about the dreaded trainer smell tho, surely you have to machine wash for that? Thanks Emma x
Thank you for this useful post Emma. I have been wondering how to clean my Converse trainers and usually just brush them. I will take your advice with the cleaner and water as the trainers need a better clean. I shall definitely use the protector in future. ✨😊
So useful, thank you! Do you have experience with color refresh spray, for those flattened discolored areas especially on black suede shoes? Many thanks ❤
Yes I used to have some black suede reviver about 8 years ago but it’s difficult if you have black suede trainers with white soles because that spray will ruin the white areas. It’s technically only really for black suede shoes/boots which are all black. I did notice colour transference though which is why I stopped using it. There might be some newer products that have come out since then but in my opinion it’s too risky to try adding colour to shoes unless you know what you’re doing x
Super helpful Emma; thank you! Another good product to use around the rubber edges and bottoms (soles) is 'The Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste', together with an old toothbrush!
Thanks for that video Emma 🤍 I'm a freak when it comes to cleaning shoes 🙈 My grandfather used to say that shoes - whether they are clean says a lot about a person. And there's something to it because you're the first UA-camr to talk about it at all. Most UA-cam girls say "sorry for dirty shoes but I wear them so I won't clean them for the video” 🤯 I've never heard of magic eraser and that's probably the only thing I miss xxx
I clean my shoes after every wear, aside from my dog walking trainers which were the 2 muddy ones I featured in this video (the Gucci trainers are Simon’s). Some people think it’s weird but I love fresh shoes 🙌🏼
Hi Emma, I’m unsure of which size to go for in New Balance trainers. I’m a UK4 EU37 but I’ve noticed 37 in these trainers comes up as 4.5 & 4 is 36. From experience which way would you advise me to go? Thank you🙏
I refuse to wear tennis shoes when the rubber souls are dirty. 😚😏 My Magic Easers keeps falling apart. I might be using too much force. I will also start using gloves. 😉👍🏻 You we’re gentle. 👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks
If you can take out your insoles as you can with most trainers these days then you can clean them with a brush as I did with the canvas trainers, then use a freshener spray. I don’t get smelly trainers, my feet just don’t sweat but I’m not much of a sweater in any respect, Simon’s trainers stink though so I always pop them outside to get some air and bought him some shoe freshener spray 👍🏼
I never clean my trainers but I’d literally watch anything you post 😂😍
So true lol

Same .... they look So much better with some wear and tear, and, whether you wash them in a machine, a sink, or by hand, I think it ruins them

Awesome video! So helpful! We need more content. Any probability towards a undergarment video or which self tanners you use with techniques!?
This was perfect timing! I was about to look up one of your older videos where you spoke about protector spray! Thank you!

Wonderful way of showing ppl like me who are unaware of these products. Great initiative to increase the longevity of our shoes.
