Semi retired shoe cobbler here I have done this many times over a 40 year career. Most people dont realize is the reason someone would have this done is because they are so comfortable. If you have shoes/boots that are comfortable you dont mind that it's not like new you just want them to last as long as possible so you don't have to painfuly break in another pair it's not always about appearance or price comfort is very important to some people. Something for viewers to consider before making negative comments. Excellent job sir.
I m honoured to talk to you such an enormous experience man as cobblers,I m from India,i would to start a firm of cobbler to do the shoe repairing, but u fortunately seldom mechanised professional in this field in india,if you don't mind, could you help out on this, what kind of machines have to purchase and so on... pls
Also a retired cobbler this is a good repair I used to do similar work myself but I also told customers how to prevent this from happening letting shoe/boots dry out polish and shoe trees
It's amazing that it's been restored like that. The restoration process is cool, and the person who repairs and uses it is so cool. Humanity has to live like that in the future. This is because unconditional production more than necessary will only shorten the lifespan of the Earth.
I agree. Sadly there are so few people who know how to do anything anymore, nor do they seem to care. They just keep buying and tossing. One reason being things are made so badly these days, nothing lasts.😞
As others have stated already this is a good temporary fix. The leather across the entirety of the top is degraded from lack of cleaning and waxing. My opinion is to make a width wide strip the top of the shoe covering all the holes. A crease will always look for a weak point and in time will create holes like this. This is a good repair just not a permanent one
The three patches he did are a permanent fix, they will not tear or debond, nor will a hole form near those patches, due to the patches strengthening the crease. Trying to add a wide strip in the crease zone would make for ultra stiff, unwearable shoe.
Would have loved to see the customers eyes when she saw the repaired shoes. I'm sure she did't belive that it was possibe to repair them like you did. Perfect! Many greetings from Germany!
If the customer agreed, I would suggest making it a captoe, or wingtip, and replacing the whole front toe with a new piece of leather stitched on. Although you did a great job after a few weeks the hole repairs would be noticeable, as opposed to a wingtip. Also for which type of repair to you use Disaronno?🙂
LOL the moment I saw you stick a patch on that shoe I said out loud "SURELY NOT??? YOU MADE A UA-cam VIDEO OF THAT????!!!!!" but then you continued!!! Well done on a great job!!
Can I say that you have done a great service to repairing an otherwise badly damaged shoe/shoes. Also don’t worry too much about what the critics say as You have done a cracking job. 😅😅😅
thanks for sharing ,, a true craftsman and great dedication , these skills have been lost in australia now , i know , i have dozens of worn out cowboy boots needing this type of skill, i guess cost of labour is the culpret these days
I patch holes from the inside. I have over 20 pairs of cowboy boots so maintenance is expensive and youll want to learn a thing or 2 so what i do is use alecpea super strong instant bonding glue. I put the patch in from the bottom if it needs 1. Usually my exotic skins have an in between layer so i dont need to patch if the tear doesn't go all the way through. add the glue through the top and try to hold the tear back in place as much as possible. Usually it holds great and i never have any more problems. It may look like a burn mark or a scar after it dries but the glue doesn't dry in some gross white color it just makes the leather stay looking wet down the line. Its pretty much completely unnoticed unless your really really looking for it.
Given the leather damage along the same crease, the patches seem quite small for the repair to last. I'd like to see how the repair holds up after 2 months of wear.
I agree with you. I don't think this patchwork would last long. Besides, i m totally not impressed with the work performed. Not more than wastage of time and efforts.
seeing as there was an actual hole, or holes, the patches only took care of the surface. was anything done under the holes? was there another thicker patch ? I th the holes would be sandwiched between the patch on top and inside
Great job. A question or 2 comes up. . Why not also use a larger, thinner patch from the inside? . why not use a fibre bonding agent on cuts after they are bonded flash in place (before) finishing with outside patch? Regardless, these type of repairs are bound to give way, aspatched areas remain weak, against constant outward pressure.
I have seen holes repaired like that with only glue, but not with extra leather. Yours came out really well. Would, be interesting to see the longevity of the two techniques due to wear and tear. Amazing repair...
Fantastic result I have to say. One question: Wouldn't it be viable to replace the full leather cap? The leather on this shoe is pretty worn out on multiple parts of the cap.
Wonderful work, I do wish you had listed the products you used to glue, fill, shine. What product did you use to fill the other cracks ? How long did the repair last ?
So question would it also work if you put the leather patches on the interior of the boot with contact cement then once it was dried filled in the holes with the leather putty till it was even with rest of the vamp then polished up ?
the problem with this is the repairs are over areas that bend. You'd need to know for sure the putty can handle being flexed and bent without peeling or tearing apart. With a leather transplant like this the amount of visible non-leather material that's taking on bend stress is minimal
While not perfect. It’s certainly not a bad fix and not something easily noticed if not knowing it was there. Well done What did you use over the cracks that didn’t have holes?
Отличная работа,хлопчик.Мая мать в годы правления комуняк насила обувь в мастерские.Там просто наклеивали или вшивали круглую латку.Всё это было сильно заметно.У тебя практически не видно.Молодец.
I do this but with shoe goo. Its flexible rubber cement and it actually doesnt crack with weak spots. I went sand with 630-800 and then just repaint. Super easy
Очень хорошая работа мастера,но это не надолго, так как остальная кожа обуви уже состарилась и через короткое время повреждения возникнут в другом месте. Мастеру-респект!
Good result, congratulations.2 questions: -is it neoprene you that you be used? - does someone know the best way to feed and polish different types of leather with 100% natural products?I m bored of using petroleum derivates Pork grease ( suif in french),Nivea cream, olive oil.👍😉..????
Great work Ser. .. i just try to see how can i fix some lather chair my cats had scratches and cutting by her nails .. i can do what you do i just am a good student and fast learn ..i actually work as a Graphic designer .. thanx and regards from Egypt
I suggest simply through it away because the other parts of this boot are also very fatigue. For one boot, the most wearing part is the heel, you may need to redo the heel for 3 times then you will wear out the sole and leather front piece at same time.
this is very impressive I wish I could send my leather boots (old finnish army boots I bought from a surplus store they don't sell/make them anymore) to you to see what you could do to them, the problem I have is the "sleeve?" of the boots have become very saggy and because of that sagging some holes have formed on the wrinkles that I just stitched shut, the holes aren't the part I have a problem with they're working boots I just want to find a way to stop the sagging
It’s video like these makes me wish I could join this trade! But when i tried asking to be taught by boot repairs they didn’t want to teach 😢 It’s hard to join this field

How great does a shop like this smell?

How long will this repair last?
@@Subgunman depends on how often you wear them tbh
I had no expectation whatsoever that you were going to pull that off, but you did in spades--very impressive!
Sometime I watch a repair video of something and think nice but whatever. Sometimes I watch one and I'm impressed. This is one of those times.
What a delight to watch a true CRAFTSMAN apply their trade so admirably … Bravo…

Adding as well a patch inner side seppe a necessity for permanent fix, isn't😉?

For how it was, it was very well done. This guy is an honest guy. Thanks for the vid!
Would have loved to see the customers eyes when she saw the repaired shoes. I'm sure she did't belive that it was possibe to repair them like you did. Perfect! Many greetings from Germany!
Geez..you made the holes and the cracks disappear....amazing!!
You sir are a true craftsman! My late father did shoe repairs when he left the Army.
The patches may or may not stand up, but your craft is amazing. You did a very good job given your challenge.
If the customer agreed, I would suggest making it a captoe, or wingtip, and replacing the whole front toe with a new piece of leather stitched on. Although you did a great job after a few weeks the hole repairs would be noticeable, as opposed to a wingtip.

wingtip ?
@@venom286__worldoftanks3 "Wingtip" is a decorative toe cap that comes back along the shoe. Basically put another layer on the outside.
Wingtip would be so cool. Good idea. I will make one of mine Wingtip. I've always wanted one, but I don't see any cool enough online.
It helps to cover the aftertaste of the shoe polish
for that job you had to charge at least 300-500 bucks...

Very nice work. Dying breed of a skillful craftsman.
I think this craft not dying, many people can calculate own money 💰 and many need to repair old, but very good shoes and boots.❤
Gracias, nos ofrece un trabajo prolijo y la oportunidad de prolongar la vida de nuestros zapatos de cuero y ahorrar. Felicitaciones

Congratulations! That is such excellent craftsmanship!
This is excellent work and is the authethc way of doing it. Better than just filling the hole with rubber.
wow! Now I have hope for my 23 year old black leather shoes, thanks for this! 🙌
You are a magician ! Nice to see that pair of shoe saved, leather shoes can make a lifetime when well taken care ! Cheers from France

A true craftsman, great restoration.
I must say, watching the start of the resto I was most skeptical regarding the outcome, but the finish was spectacular!
Real skill here. Great work. Very professional. Really encouraging. You could have made more comments as you worked. Thanks for the video.

That was very impressive to watch, can't be a cheap repair.
Great job! What would you do for a more superficial scratch where some raw leather is now sticking out?
Great craftsmanship in the restoration! 👋

I love the Amaretto di Saronno in between the waxes. Good job
Wonderful work, I do wish you had listed the products you used to glue, fill, shine. What product did you use to fill the other cracks ? How long did the repair last ?
Most likely a leather filler compound. I think it’s called sapphir renuvateur or something
Angelus Leather Filler for Filling or Repairing Holes, Tears, Cracks, Scratches
Wow!!! I wasn't sure at first, but you just performed magic 😳😲😳
You did a super excellent job yes. But the work you did is better than the boot itself..

Is this method really robust and solid? And in time how will it hold? Thank you for your answer
What kind of glue did you use to glue on the patches? And what were the different waxes/polishes, and in what order did you put them on?
Saphir Juvacuir was one of the treatments - recolourant.

Nice work! Even nicer polish :D
there is a zone of load and constant bending... all this will quickly fall apart... the imitation of whole leather is actually a layer of plaster...
Nice repair of a craftsman. Thanks
