The design of the Newmar will not lend itself to adding a back patio. The back door/ramp of the Newmar has a angle built in to it, it's not flat like the Thor. This serves to lessen the approach angle to make it easier for toys to drive up the ramp and into the garage. So it won't really work as a patio floor. Thor has that angle built into the garage floor, not the ramp, so the ramp/patio can be perfectly flat. A much better design. This also allows for the depth of the Thor garage to be fully useable. The angle built into the ramp on the Newmar projects into the garage space when the door is closed, lessening the available volume of the garage for your toys.
I have a toy hauler that I’ve been living in full-time for the last two years I have the outlaw similar to the first one you described and I’m really happy with it.

I think I prefer the Newmar Canyon Star for its perceived build quality and the fact that the shower is in the bathroom as well as the door that separates the bedroom from the garage. I also like the Diesel engine over the gas engine for durability. I like the Outlaw because it has a lower price, the couches in the garage have a fold down center section and it has a more youthful vibe. If I was deciding on purchasing one or the other it would probably come down to what my budget would allow.

The decision for me would be over the engine. The new 7.3 gas has closed the gap a little, but when i'm going up a long steep grade, I would hate myself for not choosing the diesel if the gas engine is struggling. What do you think?

You don't like how the Outlaw has no kitchen peninsula? Well that would infringe on entry - especially with the slide in. On the Canyon Star, you missed how: *The garage door opens IN to the garage (blocked when loaded - requiring entry from exterior only), *The wonky ramp cannot be used as a deck, *AND how New-bago (Newmar was acquired by Winnebago) requires you to pay extra to option everything from the garage bunks to the screen wall in the garage (most everything is standard on the Outlaw). **Plus...for 2021, all Canyon Star models are ONLY available with the rather small 6.7L 6cylinder Diesel - of the Freightliner FRED (FRont Engine Diesel) chassis...no Godzilla 7.3L V8 gasoline engine is even available...which also adds about $10K to the price.

I think you could with either brand toy hauler if you don't mind the sea kayak extending through the entire length of the garage, then through the door (sliding door on the Thor) and through the depth of the bedroom. If you have a toad behind you could also mount the sea kayak on the roof of the toad. They are very versatile vehicles.
