The only issue I had with the Canyon Star in the past is that it was gas powered instead of diesel powered. Thankfully, with this new development, the Canyon Star is now on my radar! I like that they put in very good sound insulation for the engine. It was very quiet in this video! One question I have, though, is how does the fuel economy stack up with the front-end diesel versus the rear-engine diesel? Also, how is the heat insulation with regards to the doghouse cover over the engine? I am a school bus driver & the few front-engine diesels I've driven as far as school buses go, the dog house gets hot, hot, hot & cooks my legs/feet.Great video Chris! Thanks again! :)
This is it, love it! I'd clutter the roof with solar and swap the batteries for lithium as well as the loo for a Separett composting one so too the black tank for additional fresh water and pretty much that's guaranteed you'd never see me again. Thanks for the presentation, great job!
You prolly dont give a shit but does someone know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my account password. I love any tricks you can offer me
@Jad Luciano I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
The jacobs brake is the engine brake, the exhaust brake uses the turbo to slow down. The dpf that big tank on the exhaust has made them quieter, open the exhaust pipe and the ISL will not be so quiet. The basic dash will be a selling feature for people that do not want to swipe down then left twice to turn on the wiper. lol.
Great job. Have veiwed few of your videos and always good. Would love to actually see a bagger motorcycle actually loaded in the garage. No one ever shows one loaded.
The King of the Motorhome walk-thru's does it again. Fifty-six seconds from 0-60 mph that is not bad for a diesel coach most are well over a minute. Very informative! Plus your battery didn't die or you sd card didn't fill up Tony! hehe;)

For Mt Comfort: Awesome walk thru! Clear and informative. Thanks! For NewBago: LOL...still only 1500lb in the garage?! And sticking to that hump in the ramp, when a ducktail on the garage floor and flat ramp would be SO MUCH easier to live with (gives owners a rear deck and allows easy break-over adjustment with the front leveling jacks, etc.)...oh well. BTW, all Outlaws have had a real bedroom for years...the loft is just extra sleeping. And our Smart car is safe to carry in our Outlaw at just over 1800lb empty in the 2500lb capacity garage. Safe travels
I really like the Newmar Great job Chris showing all the features. We have had a 32' Keystone Impact. And would still have it if it wasn't for Delamination after 2 years from new . It turned into a nightmare. It did have a very similar garage in the Impact. It's very good usable space. If you have guest, it's the best way to go. They have there own space. We now pull a 35' 5th wheel and a 6×10' enclosed trailer .This set up is not for everyone. But I put my motorcycle inside every night and if we have a problem we can retrieve the motorcycle with the trailer. Ive had people tell me our rig is illegal in places like Florida but we have been to Key West 2 time's without a problem. I had a friend get run out of New York pulling a trailer behind his 5th wheel. If I owned something like the Newmar I would pull a small pickup. When I get tired of pulling the 2 trailers the Newmar may be the way to go .
The reason diesel engines were originally was that they were so noisy. This configuration now is better than rear engine. More balanced and easier maintenance. Wish they had put the 360 hp with the 3000 trans. Great idea though. Iwish more reviewers drove the coach like you did.
Chris purple is a flattering color on you. Great sportscaster voice for this presentation. Awesome RV of course. Can you store a desueldo smart car in the garage??

Just answered my question. Nice rig for two people, big power, quiet, needs work on the dash. Easier than towing a fifth, but a fifth has more options. What to do, what to do. Ain’t no perfect RV.
I’ve got a Thor (Fred), and this toyhauler perks my interest. Now we need to convince my wife she won’t be sacrificing anything so I can take my Harley.
Is it possible to get a decibel reading while accelerating and at highway speeds. We currently have a gas toy hauler and it is extremely loud on the highway. Just curious what the peak decibel and average is in the cockpit and seating.
Great, great video Chris. We love our ‘17 Canyon Star, but this platform is interesting to us. With air ride only on the rear axle, how does the ride compare to a F53 26k Canyon Star and a non tag DP. Would air adjusted front seats be an option like in some super Cs. Thanks.
Wonderful video. Thank you. Question please. In the garag, if the bed is up and the lower is configured to bench and table, it appears the a/c is blocked by the bed rendering it either useless or inefficient. Can you confirm this or explain a work around? TIA
Thank you for the test drive. You met my wish getting to know how a front engine diesel drove and sounded. Wondering the decimal rating between the Canyon and Bay Star.
Hi chris have several questions about the canyon star front engine toy hauler, Can use that space in the toy hauler to put in a recliner and a television a d convert it into a mancave ? If I decide to buy power recliners or massaging recliners can I plug it in directly into a plug inside the garage or do I need to run an extension cord ?
Great review! Removing the rear ladder looks easy enough, how about putting it back? Anything up on the roof the protect the finish as you try to slide the ladder back into it's bracket?
One thing I didn't see you mention was the electric outlet and "hole" above the bed for the CPAP. It appears that there are only storage above each side of bed.
The gas engine kept me from buying these toy haulers. Especially Thor outlaw. No one wants a gas engine screaming to make horsepower. Finally someone figured it out. Cummins diesel.
Do not turn The Wheel without moving The Vehicle first! Much easier on Power Steering Unit and Steering linkage in a long run you will have less wear and tear, plus your sea is still last longer.
Contact the Ohio DOT and tell them it is a motor home. Or google the state laws and read them, most states have a motor home exclusion but you need to verify as some have a state license requirement. CDL is a commercial license so it would not be the federal CDL unless you use it for work.

Yea we have people that buy toy haulers and use the garage areas for all kinds of things. Offices, Dog grooming areas, we even had a storm chaser that used it as kind of like a weather forecast area.

Just the fact that you were speaking in a normal tone throughout the video speaks to how quiet the engine noise is.

Chris you are by far one of the best reviewers I've ever watched. Absolutely great job.
Thanks Lou
It's not an "Engine Brake", It's an "exhaust brake" on this unit. Big difference.
This engine/ chassis on the smaller models is gonna be a real winner. Please do a vid when y'all get a smaller Canyon Star in..
This is it, love it! I'd clutter the roof with solar and swap the batteries for lithium as well as the loo for a Separett composting one so too the black tank for additional fresh water and pretty much that's guaranteed you'd never see me again. Thanks for the presentation, great job!

Great video Chris. Glad I waited to see it.
Just answered my question. Nice rig for two people, big power, quiet, needs work on the dash. Easier than towing a fifth, but a fifth has more options. What to do, what to do. Ain’t no perfect RV.

Great job Chris & Tony.
did i miss the msrp? or the sales price?
Can this Unit be ordered without the rear Beds, AS and Tv? Just A Garage only! Just us old couple nearly Octogenarian s!
Front Engine Diesel = FRED, I know I'm silly, but sounds good.
That's why they call it! :)
Wonderful video. Thank you. Question please. In the garag, if the bed is up and the lower is configured to bench and table, it appears the a/c is blocked by the bed rendering it either useless or inefficient. Can you confirm this or explain a work around? TIA
Great job as always Chris. Seems ironic that the same year Ford switches to the V8, Canyonstar moves to FRED. Welcome to Winnebago.
I wonder how it drives/handles compared to the F-53? Wander, correcting when trucks pass, etc.??
Thank you for the test drive. You met my wish getting to know how a front engine diesel drove and sounded. Wondering the decimal rating between the Canyon and Bay Star.
Hi chris
have several questions about the canyon star front engine toy hauler,
Can use that space in the toy hauler to put in a recliner and a television a d convert it into a mancave ? If I decide to buy power recliners or massaging recliners can I plug it in directly into a plug inside the garage or do I need to run an extension cord ?
Game changer for toy haulers.
Great review! Removing the rear ladder looks easy enough, how about putting it back? Anything up on the roof the protect the finish as you try to slide the ladder back into it's bracket?
Can you get rid of all the crap in the garage. No drop-down beds or seating? I want to turn it into an office.
One thing I didn't see you mention was the electric outlet and "hole" above the bed for the CPAP. It appears that there are only storage above each side of bed.
When you option the bed with the head lift, you lose the overhead cabinets and the cpap station
I love this video. I have a quick question about the rear couch. Are there support legs for the rear couch or is it just free floating?
There is a support leg in the center of each bench seat. he just forgot to put them down.
GREAT JOB!!
Great review. What about differential lock?
We need diff locks for Smokies
I’m ready for a test drive
Does the front diesel get as hot in the cab as the gas it's too hot we have AV10 and it's just too hot up at the front or the captain's chairs are
A question do they make a screen to cover the open door area in the toy hauler area?
If you are referring to the large fold down door. Yes they do it's an extra but worth it!
I guess if you want a toy hauler but not full air suspension ???
Website says gvwr 32k , gcwr 33k. What is that all about? Does it mean i can only carry 1000 LBs of toys?
Can you get a bed over the driver seat in this model?
I second this! I would rather swap the garage bed for an overhead bed.
No where near the noise of the old International Fred. That damn V10 was a noisemaker!
Dash, yes, it is ugly. But the funny thing is, is that I'm starting to like it.
With the diesel ,is there an engine brake ? Or exhaust brake?
Exhaust
In the garage, can one of the two couches be folded up and away?
yep
Any front Tow Hooks?
Chris, can you do a drive in a V-8 BayStar when one comes in? Heard new suspension is a big deal...
Soon!
Is the air conditioner in the garage usable with the upper bunk bed in the raised position?
How much noise from the ramp while driving? Any rattles?
Hi Bob, Yes the AC is usable with the bed up, and no the ramp door doesn't rattle.
No oasis floor heat?
You can get the heating feature from the ac units through the whole coach.
Can you tell me if they have the Allison transmission in them
Very informative video
Ok, I see ,it does have exhaust brake
How much down payment
This is the v8 chassis???
Super NICE

Do I need a CDL to drive air brakes in Ohio
Pretty sure you don't. Kansas and Texas have some extra requirements
Contact the Ohio DOT and tell them it is a motor home. Or google the state laws and read them, most states have a motor home exclusion but you need to verify as some have a state license requirement. CDL is a commercial license so it would not be the federal CDL unless you use it for work.
