Your video(s) are most informative. I am learning a great deal about how to use my Garmin 93v. I hate to be old and dumb.....lol....but I'm willing to learn from what you teach. Please keep up the good work. I do appreciate it.
Besides adjusting Contrast and Brightness do you adjust any of the setting like TVG or Interference? My Clear VU used to be great and now isn't working well. Garmin thinks it's interference. I have same Garmin UHD 93SV and trolling motor set up from when I first got up my Kayak 6 months ago. Originally it worked great, not any longer. I love your tips on how to use my Garmins better. I learn something new with each one.
How did you get the brightness + - on the top of your screen. Mine has the zoom feature which I don’t use that much and would rather brightness or contrast for easy access
If you have a uhd2 that option is not available, on the original uhd go into the individual sonar menus and find the “on screen control” which will let you select brightness or gain.
Glad it helped!! If your interested I have a settings spreadsheet, transducer comparisons and a monthly newsletter if you want send me an email to doubletfishing@outlook.com I’ll add you to the list. I do find myself looking at traditional to verify the dots im seeing on clear vu are fish... I've often wondered if I really even need the clear vu?? What are the key differences between the two? Hey thanks for putting this together sir. Have a good 1
The Clear vu allows you to identify objects and see the dots and separation from the object and fish. With traditional to me the fish blend into the structure more. Like you I normally run both but I do like to zoom in on structure and see if fish are holding on the structure. Thanks for the comment have a great weekend!!!!
I’m still a little old school, I like to run a combo with traditional and clear vu, I get a better feel for the size of the fish with traditional but the clear view does a better job of showing the actual structure.
Thanks Deshawn!! As far as I know all the graphics and software should be the same. You may not have the same selection of frequencies but other than that it should be very similar. With the smaller screen you may want to set your combo screens up differently. Holler if you have any questions, have a great day!!
No, I like seeing the baitfish in the water column that the fish symbols might filter them out. I use the sonar as much for finding baitfish and structure as for actually locating game fish which are often tucked into cover or sitting on the bottom. I like to fish areas where the water is “alive” with baitfish, birds, turtles etc. thanks for watching and have a great day!!
As for arches look for two things, how thick they are is one good clue and how many colors are in the arch. If you are getting mostly 1/2 arches put your scroll speed in auto and check your transducer is still level. If your fishing deep water you might play around with the picture advance feature I’m highlighting in a video that is dropping on UA-cam Saturday morning.
So at the 9:15 range which image was correct about all those brush piles the 2d or the down image ?? If I were out in my boat and seen that 2d imaging I would of thrown a buoy out and fished there thinking there were a lot of brush there.
Hey Mike, good to hear from you. The traditional sonar pattern is a circle with a 16 to 20 degree angle whereas the clear view is a narrow 2 degree oval angle. The brush was showing up really dim couldn’t hardly see it which tells me it was small and soft. I think the brush was there for sure but it may have been I little farther out or I just had the clear vu set too low in contrast. That GT 54 transducer just doesn’t seem to reach out very far in the higher frequencies. I really want to drop an object in the water with a buoy marker and run some test to get a better idea of how the different sonars pick up object and the accuracy of marked waypoints.
If the boat stops moving, does the screen stop as well? One thing I never understood with my old, traditional fish finder is the screen was always moving even when the boat was stationary
The screen will continue to scroll across even when your stopped although it will slow down if you have the scroll speed in "auto". Example: If your stationary and there are suspended fish below you they will show up as a straight lines across the screen. Here's a video that explains more about scroll speed and how it works. Have a great day!! ua-cam.com/video/Yg_OF63iJhs/v-deo.html
Not with any certainty, it’s tough when I’m walleye fishing to spot fish hugging the bottom. Sometimes i can see a difference in color on a hard bottom in 2D but telling the difference between species I rely on the ORIGINAL fish finder…….gulp or live minnow on a jig😂
Great video. Can I ask a question? At 12:44 you mark fish. On the traditional view they are long arches but on the down vu they are just dots. Why is that? I'm having a hard time seeing fish on down vu. You can see trees and brush really clear but the fish are just specs. Do you know why that is?
Yes, on traditional the sonar pattern is a wide cone, as it passes over the fish the signal starts slightly farther (lower) then closer (higher) then as it moves farther it gets lower again. The clear vu is a narrow beam that acts more like a coy machine so it captures small objects like fish as dots. Dots separated from branches/structure are normally fish. Take a look at the video below, explains it better. Thanks for watching!!! ua-cam.com/video/Vt0_8F4utY0/v-deo.html
@@DoubleTFishing Yep, I just saw that a few minutes ago. I think your explanation was great, makes sense to a new guy. I saw you used them together for comparison so I will set up one of my shortcuts for that. Thank you for the help.
My first reaction is to have you lower your frequency if your in water over 25’ deep. Start out with your contrast around 80, brightness 90, scroll speed in auto, TVG and interference on low. Try it in a place with rock or wood on the bottom, soft bottoms just don’t have as sharp of returns. Try it at 4-5 mph idling. Make sure your transducer is level for the speed your traveling and make sure your voltage reading on screen is above 11 volts. Let me know how that works and have a great day!!!
Around 70 on the contrast and 90 or higher brightness, make sure the scroll speed is in auto and i notice a pretty big difference when I leveled my transducer to match the speed I like to travel at. Thanks for supporting the channel, have a great weekend!!!
Lots of fish, or not? From about 14:32 to 14:36 there appear to be alot of fishing marking on the Traditional. Are those fish or just debris, etc. in the water? I have the identical Garmin unit that you have and am not at all confident in how I'm reading the Traditional sonar and distinguishing among fish, algae, debris, etc. This is my first every Chartplotter/Fishfinder.
In our lake I’ve always assumed those are fingerlings rather than floating debris because the fishing tends to be better in those areas. It’s only 20’ deep so a game fish of any size will generally show up as a dot on the clear vu and my “go to” tattletale for size is if the arch has two separate colors. On that screen it would show yellow and blue arch’s on the traditional screen. Not to sound like a used car salesman but take a look at the video on frequency where I explain the difference in cone angles between traditional and clear vu, with the narrow angle of clear vu you don’t see arches. I used to get excited when I saw all the small lines but I started dropping a small jig head with a gulp minnow on them and figured out it was 3” sunfish and bluegill, most too small to eat the hook. Thanks for watching have a great weekend!!! ua-cam.com/video/Vt0_8F4utY0/v-deo.html
No I don’t have one but the “MG Marine tech” did a comparison video between the GT54 and GT56. My experience with using the 1120kHz side vu is it won’t reach very far, the GT 56 has a higher output wattage and kHz. , appreciate you watching, have a great day!!
I really enjoyed the video! Ive never ran a fish finder but am planning on getting one soon. Just got the bass pro black friday sales paper in the mail and was reading reviews on this model. Question tho, do you think I should start with a simpler ff for my first set up? When I'm reading the comments with all the frequencies and cones and megahertz get a little worried about spending so much and not getting the full use of it. Thanks again for the video and wanted to say hey from Texarkana! Keep up the good work brother.
To answer your question best both inexpensive and expensive units have similar option menus, the price change is mainly in screen size, transducer type and maps. I would say get what you can afford that makes sense. I wouldn’t put an $1,100 unit on a kayak at first and you want to decide if you need maps. That is the main driver, if you fish locally and can make QuickDraw maps a Striker is a good option, you won’t get the super clear images but it gets the job done. I have multiple sonar units I don’t use anymore that basically got used a season or less. If I had broke down and bought a decent unit I’d have saved money!! The echomap for example has many options but you can start out simple using the default settings and dial it in as you begin to understand what your looking at. If you hadn’t already take a look at this video link on the striker vs echomap. Don’t be afraid to get the echomap if it makes sense plus it gives you opportunities to network and add forward facing sonar later if you want ua-cam.com/video/_S5YCJDCguQ/v-deo.html
Send me an email and I’ll send you the settings spreadsheet. Doubletfishing@outlook.com A few things are transducer location and if it is level with the boats attitude at 4-6 mph. Make sure your scroll speed is in auto, turn the zoom functions off except magnify that helps. If you are in a soft bottom body of water the image looks fuzzy, I shoot the videos on hard bottom sections of the lake most the time. Have a great holiday season and holler if you have any questions!!
I’m using the GT54 with the scroll speed in Auto, I’ve heard a few comments about clarity lately. Is the transducer mounted on your trolling motor or on the transom? I play with my contrast and brightness to get clarity of the objects. Normally unless I have the contrast too high the water column stays pretty clear. Might try getting up to speed then stop the motor, trim it up and glide to see if it’s turbulence from the motor. Assume the voltage to the unit is at or over 11.5v.
It’s just a GT54, works well in shallow water less than 60’. The GT56 is supposed to return even sharper images and reaches 20% farther. Have a great day David
Hey Luis, thanks for watching. For some reason I couldn’t open your comment the other day to get you a copy of the spreadsheet. Can you message me your email on Instagram
Side vu is much different, it gives you the ability to see much farther out on each side of the boat. The higher the frequency the less distance you can see. Great tool for finding structure, shell beds etc that fish may be hanging around. Check out this video ua-cam.com/video/mwFifdxsI-w/v-deo.html
I’ll have to admit that us UA-camrs normally go to hard bottom and cover to get those images. If it’s soft bottom and leafy soft vegetation it doesn’t look nearly that good. Having the transducer pretty level is important. Are you running an echomap?
Tough question, I’m not nearly as up to speed on Lowrance units but even within the Garmin Echomap series the performance in deeper water is determined by the transducer and frequency it is operated at. First I would ask at what depth am I fishing and what sonar is available for that depth? Then take a look at the transducer specifications to see which gives you better performance, things like temperature, salt water vs fresh and water clarity also effect performance. Take a look at this video⬇️ ua-cam.com/video/Vt0_8F4utY0/v-deo.html
Make sure your not in zoom mode. Not sure if your talking side vu, clear vu or both. Few things I would check is to make sure the transducer didn’t get moved, cable is plugged in tight. Your transducer type set to auto and your scroll speed set to auto and not in zoom mode, I made up a settings spreadsheet if you would like a copy or here’s a link to the video ua-cam.com/video/kfHoayA9J9Q/v-deo.html
One other thing is if you are running the higher frequencies they won’t reach out very far. Drop it back to a lower frequency and see if you get a clear image. My side vu at 1120Khz with the GT54 transducer will only go out 60’ in 20’ deep water. I normally just use 455khz
@@DoubleTFishing thanks for the reply! Im using a 93sv UHD with the GT56. river fishing. 30ft deep at best. And scroll speed. Are you referring to chart speed? Thx for the time
@@DoubleTFishing and i should leave it on auto transducer instead of selecting my gt56? And i think youve mentioned..what was it, 1120kZ? Mine only does i think 1060 at its highest. Thanks
@@DoubleTFishing I have the 73 echomap now and I'm thinking about getting the 93sv with the gt54 transducer any downfalls of the 93sv and enjoyed your video and I appreciate your help thanks
Not that I’ve found other than the higher frequencies on Side vu won’t reach out very far. About 60’ is all I can get. Networking the two together is easy, just need an Ethernet cord.
Ya had me worried😂🤣 I have a GT54’s on the transom and trolling motor. They’re not great with side scan over 1000khz, thanks for watching, have a great day!!!!
Hi Alec, there are actually a couple reasons, first is size. Smaller fish do not show up on clear vu unless you crank the contrast and brightness up to the point the screen looks a little cluttered. Unfortunately, if I do that it looks really bad on camera (not to great in person either). Second the sonar cone angle of 2D traditional is much different. Traditional sonar is a round cone that covers a much larger area than does clear vu which is a thin narrow cone. I did a video 4 months ago titled "why does a fish look like an arch or a dot on my fish finder" that explains some of that. Thanks for watch and have a great day!!
@@DoubleTFishing that does make sense but one thing that still confuses me is why on clearvu they only show up as dots not smaller arches. If they are in your clearvu come and both clearvu and regular are scanning their airbladders I’d think clearvu would still show arches?
Just different technology I guess to get more photo like images of the structure, probably less sensitive to the density of an object than 2D traditional, great conversation topic, I may do a deeper dive into it, thanks!!
I see a lot more vids and people using the 93SV....I'm looking at getting the 94SV as it's on sale with a livescope bundle. Just wondering why the 94SV isn't getting any love? Anybody know anything about the 94SV? Is it a decent unit? Getting ready to drop a lot of cash and don't want to make a bad move.
The only difference between a 93sv and 94SV is the preloaded maps. The “4” indicates coastal G3 maps whereas the “3” indicates lake vu maps. The base unit and functions are the same. To purchase different maps afterwards is pricey so get what you need upfront. Thanks for watching!!
it as all the whistles and sparkles but Lat Long on heads are a long way from being accurate where i fish..in fact 1300 ft out of where my old echomap 70s shows underwater heads are on Lat Long..not good at all.
I haven’t run into any accuracy problems with waypoints I set using coordinates taken from google maps. I’ve had pretty good luck contacting Garmin support at 800 800-1020. Thanks for watching and have a great day!!!
When I’m searching I’ll mark “signs of life” then swing back and throw a few casts, I don’t permanently keep waypoints (type in a name) unless they are productive. I delete allot of waypoints. In videos I try to demonstrate marking waypoints because there is confusion on “how to” among new Garmin users. Have a great day John.

Which color pallet are you using? Thanks
It’s called “moss” suits my eye but differs from person to person, thanks for the comment, have a great weekend!!
Mine doesn't look like that. I must've put the transducer on wrong.
I’ll have to admit that us UA-camrs normally go to hard bottom and cover to get those images. If it’s soft bottom and leafy soft vegetation it doesn’t look nearly that good. Having the transducer pretty level is important. Are you running an echomap?
🤙
Which is better for deep water garmin echo sv series or lowrance elite fs? Thank you in advance!
Take a look at this video⬇️

All I seem to pick up is big blurry blobs. Like 2" big on the 9" screen. Cant seem to dial it in at all
Make sure your not in zoom mode. Not sure if your talking side vu, clear vu or both. Few things I would check is to make sure the transducer didn’t get moved, cable is plugged in tight. Your transducer type set to auto and your scroll speed set to auto and not in zoom mode, I made up a settings spreadsheet if you would like a copy or here’s a link to the video

Thx for the time
Yes chart speed, have a great day hope that helps
@@DoubleTFishing and i should leave it on auto transducer instead of selecting my gt56? And i think youve mentioned..what was it, 1120kZ? Mine only does i think 1060 at its highest.
Thanks
It seems like traditional is better at viewing fish
The transducer you're using is it a gt54 or the GT 56
I’m using the GT 54
@@DoubleTFishing I have the 73 echomap now and I'm thinking about getting the 93sv with the gt54 transducer any downfalls of the 93sv and enjoyed your video and I appreciate your help thanks
Not that I’ve found other than the higher frequencies on Side vu won’t reach out very far. About 60’ is all I can get. Networking the two together is easy, just need an Ethernet cord.
Bass pro has the 93sv with GT54 going on sale next Monday for $700
@@DoubleTFishing thank you
Maxed out the graph on waypoints
What size SD card did you put in?
Just kiddin, I run a 64gig. Even recording all day mapping barely uses up any data on the card. Love my garmin units!
Which transducer do you run?
Ya had me worried😂🤣 I have a GT54’s on the transom and trolling motor. They’re not great with side scan over 1000khz, thanks for watching, have a great day!!!!
What pallets is that?
It’s called “moss” thanks for watching and have a great day!!!
How is it possible that you see all those are he’s on traditional and nothing on the clearvu?
@@DoubleTFishing Thank you so much....I don't need maps so that's perfect for me.
it as all the whistles and sparkles but Lat Long on heads are a long way from being accurate where i fish..in fact 1300 ft out of where my old echomap 70s shows underwater heads are on Lat Long..not good at all.
I haven’t run into any accuracy problems with waypoints I set using coordinates taken from google maps. I’ve had pretty good luck contacting Garmin support at 800 800-1020. Thanks for watching and have a great day!!!
How do you get 14.2 volts?
When the big motor is running the alternator puts that much out, it’s normal. The Garmin is good for higher voltage, 18v or higher
Alright thanks
I am over here wondering why you are marking bait fish schools, when they are constantly on the move??
When I’m searching I’ll mark “signs of life” then swing back and throw a few casts, I don’t permanently keep waypoints (type in a name) unless they are productive. I delete allot of waypoints. In videos I try to demonstrate marking waypoints because there is confusion on “how to” among new Garmin users. Have a great day John.
@@DoubleTFishing thank you for your reply!!
Wasn't to much explaining going on ,, just pictures of him using Clearview ,,
This video goes more in depth of the actual settings, see if this is a little more what your looking for, it is broke into section so you can skip ahead and look for the blue screens thanks for watching

way over complicated
