    I'm building a diy 15' bass boat right now out of a 1991 Bayliner Trophy 1500 and I bought a 93sv uhd2 with a GT57 transducer and two 73sv uhd's with a GT20 transducer to go to my #3 unit. Going to put the 9" and one of the 7" units at my helm and one of the 7" units at the bow. Going to network my 9" and the unit at the bow so I can share the screens with the GT56. Can't wait to get it all done. I have 3 943xsv's on my 30' salmon fishing boat. I run nothing but Garmin. I swear by their products. My Chartplotter's, auto pilot, array radar, depth finder, everything on my big boat is Garmin. Thanks for your videos. You have helped my learn alot about these units. 👍👍👌🎣🐟

    just got a garmin echomap for my first fishfinder and was somewhat confused as to how to mark a spot and turn around to fish it along with knowing where that spot is exactly. Do you have to be moving slow to draw contour maps or will it work when you're cruising across the lake? I just bought a 93 to put on console. If I wanted to add a 73 on the bow like you all I would need is the unit and the network cable, correct? Both units could run off the same transducer?

    • @InstinctBassin
      @InstinctBassin  Рік тому +1

      You don't necessarily have to be going slow, but your transducer does have to be able to read the depth, which usually works best while you're going slow. I think around 20mph is the fastest I've been able to go while also using Quickdraw to draw contour maps, and that's pretty rare. I usually go much slower.
      2nd question, yes. All you would need is a network cable, and then you'd need to go into the bow unit and tell it to read the sonar from the console unit. I only recommend that for Side Vu, since when looking at the bow unit, you'll be looking at a reading that is "X" feet behind you (typically the length of the boat), since that is where the transducer is.

    So I bought a 93sv about a year ago...it was glitching out and I trouble shot it with a Garmin tech guy. He said send it in, and they'd give me another one. Since I was in a hurry as I'm leaving for an Arkansas (Bull Shoals) trip in a few days, I paid a deposit for them to send it before I shipped their unit back with the understanding that my card won't be charged as long as I ship the old one within 2 weeks. So...the new unit came and was doing the same thing, telling me the problem was on my end. I redid grounds and problem solved. So now I have both units as I haven't shipped the old one back yet. They charged me $540 for a new 93sv as the deposit and they'll keep that if I don't send it back. Considering they're both working and I have a brand new unit for $540 I think I'm gonna keep it and have the 2, 93sv units and link them and add panoptics to the front unit. I'm running an old Humminbird up front, and though it was a decent unit, I got it in like 06' so it's outdated and won't link. I wasn't planning on the extra expense right now, but I think it'd be nice, especially at that price.

      Good setup, here to help if you have questions.

      @@68fmj51 If they are on the standard cradle, you may be able to just swap out the units - the plugs may be the same, but I'm not sure. Side Vu isn't normally used from the trolling motor, since it will be difficult to maintain a good picture on Side Vu if the trolling motor is constantly moving. I actually have mine networked together and tell the front one to get its Side Vu picture from the back one. This makes it more reliable, although 20 feet (length of my boat) behind me. You will be able to see the data from the other transducer, yes. However I still recommend using 2 transducers (one at the stern and one at the bow) if you plan to fish from the front of the boat. Otherwise, the data will be off by the length of the boat, assuming you mount one transducer at the stern. Hope that makes sense and helps.

    • @InstinctBassin
      @InstinctBassin  8 місяців тому

      Because of the turbulence around the transducer. Every fishfinder I’ve owned does that, especially on a bass boat. It’s not something I worry about, because any depth I read on speed is already going to be so far behind me that it just doesn’t matter.

      No it won’t power it. I hooked the power cable for the 73 on my bow to the nav light. Works fine, although I used to get a low voltage warning. I disabled it and haven’t had any issues. To do it “right”, you’d want to run the power cable either to the console fuse box or all the way to the battery.

    • @InstinctBassin
      @InstinctBassin  2 роки тому

      If you spend anytime fishing from the bow of the boat, you’ll need a transducer on the trolling motor. You can technically tell the units to read of either transducer once they are networked, but you’ll still 2 transducers, one on the TM and one on the transom. It’s fairly easy to mount them on the trolling motor though. If you only used the transom transducer, then the data you’re reading up front would be off by the length of your boat. I use the Heading Line and the Angle Markers for my casting distance from the boat. You can set the distance of the heading line and angle markers. The heading line is an extension drawn on the map from the bow of the boat in the direction of travel. Angle markers indicate relative position from the heading or course over ground, which are helpful for casting or finding reference points.
    You can show the heading line and the course over ground (COG) line on the chart.
    COG is your direction of movement. Heading is the direction the bow of the boat is pointed, when a heading sensor is connected.
    From a chart, select Menu > Layers > My Vessel > Heading Line.

      If you hook up a NMEA network, the unit can also read information from your engine. I don’t have one hooked up though.

    Units have to be compatiable to network, found out 93 sv wont network with 93 uhd.

      Yes the units have to be compatible, but I’m unsure your terminology is completely accurate here. I have an Echomap 93SV UHD and Echomap 73SV UHD that will easily network with one cable. If you mean a non-echomap unit to an echomap unit, then that is likely correct that they wouldn’t network with each other. Definitely good to check with Garmin before buying unnecessary equipment though. Thanks for watching.
