  • Video of removing the belt tensioner bolt that apparently is known to break on these vans. Not sure how other people removed the broken bolt but this is the way we have done it. There's really no other videos explaining how to remove the broken bolt. And if there is please let me know. Thank you for watching!

    Good thing this is a removable piece. I was thinking that it wasnt part of the engine block which makes more sense. Thanks for the video showing where this bolts in.

    Dealing with this right now on a 2008 pilot. What a nightmare it was trying to drill it out. Just gonna replace the bracket thanks man.

    Just dropping a note to say thanks for posting. If it wasn't for your video, I wouldn't have known there was a bracket I can replace because my tension pulley bolt broke off. I'm in the middle of getting to that bracket for replacement. So far, about an hour into it and I'm at the bracket. Took your recommendation and went for the compressor first.

    Great job, 2021 and still helping at least one person (me). I never thought to take that bracket off. Appreciate the tip. 2010 honda accord ex-l v6

    It would be great not only what you did but how you did it. I’m trying to take out the bracket myself and I am stumped as to what will release the compressor and is their bolts to remove behind? Great video just a lot more detail and you would be the one everybody goes to see because NOBODY has done it yet and everybody runs in this problem.

    Hi Guy, FYI your video did help me find out how to take the next step on my car. Recently had the tensioner replaced and the bolt broke in exact same spot. Keep up good work. Gonna work on mine over the next few days. Thanks for your video mate.

      I have the same issue currently my idler pulley bolt broke in the same spot. After I take the ac compressor and alternator off is the bracket behind it?

    Thanks. 08 accord with same problem. I thought the broken bolt looked like in a bracket other than motor block itself. This will help allot

    The reason that bolt broke is the failure to bleed the air out of the serpentine belt tensioner hydraulic cylinder per the Honda technical manual. The instructions call for you to slowly compress the cylinder (taking three seconds to compress the hydraulic cylinder) then compress it three more times. You have to use the cheater bar, ratchet wrench and the 19 mm socket.

      Super helpful. I've had 3 tensioners between 2 mechanics break in the past 3 months. I'll give them your info so hopefully they can get it right this time!

    Hi, thanks for the video. To remove the bracket did you have to remove the ac lines from the compressor and later recharge the system? Or were you able to keep the ac system intact and charged?

    • @lobssangmarrero4781
      @lobssangmarrero4781 3 роки тому +4

      The compressor will just hang by the lines. No need to evacuate the refrigerant. It will be out of your way

  • @ShanniM
    @ShanniM 4 роки тому

    So you had to evacuate the ac system? I'm trying to do this job was hoping I could just unscrew the four screws holding the compressor to the bracket and get at the screws that hold the bracket to the block

    Great Information there! I wonder if the other style tensioner (simpler design) is having bolt breaking issues too - anyone out there know? AND, would the other design that fits the EX and LX fit on and replace this style. Just trying to avoid the future possible broken bolt problem. Thanks!

      Search some forums. This is an issue that plagues many. First, I'd recommend reusing the OEM bolt. Next, the factory service manual talks about compressing the piston slowly 3 times and then slowly compressing it when installing the belt. If you just try to torque on it like you would a spring tensioner, it's near impossible and some suspect that's what fatigues the bolt and results in failure. Of course, they have a recommended torque for the bolt. I'm in the middle of removing my bracket to extract a broken bolt and struggling with getting the compressor bolts out. I don't want this to be a monthly ordeal!

      I should add that I'm pretty sure the ex and lx tensioner it's not compatible. Maybe the hydraulic tensioner is related to the cylinder cancellation system?

    How long did this take you ?

    • @Sdotmed
      @Sdotmed 5 років тому

      TP Gift didn’t take too long. Maybe a couple hours. But it did happen about 2-3 times. So be aware if there’s any power steering leaks that fall on the pulleys. Also check the pulleys (crankshaft and power steering pulley) if they wiggle or don’t spin without wiggling. They can’t have any type of off movements if you get what I’m saying
