It should be on The History Channel.

This is a great, wonderfully ambitious movie. I wish the critics had more of an open mind

I enjoyed this review and I have been calling them up as the algorithms do their thing. I am age 69, am thus a full-fledged "boomer," and if you aren't aware you should know that we were inundated with TV "westerns:" as we were growing up. So "Horizon" might strike us as simply redundant! TV westerns were a means to promote morality. Yet we grew up in a time when our U.S. government promoted the immorality of fighting the Vietnam war. So we withdrew. And the sudden "de-ruralization" of TV in 1970 ended the western genre. On came Norman Lear!

Curious what did your mom think of the movie?

I share your objections. List of my ones - in loose order:
    (1) Music detached from what's on the screen. Many times the action has not really developed yet (much less ended) and there's already cronyt music that does not match emotions. E.g. there is still fight going on and yet music is already as if it was all over, putting emotions down, fading away.
    (2) Beautifull indian girls with pearly with teeth fixed in a XXI. century dental center.
    (3) Political correctness in the way caracters speak. White army men of 1863 frontier, after seing carnage of settlers calls natives "the ingidenous" 0 instead of simply 'indians' or any derogative ways they were referring to them those days.
    (4) Sceens showing a white woman drawing water from the river and than passing bucket to a black woman in a perfect unisone, understaing and cooperative mode.
    (5) Two indians speaking in their native language only to switch in the last two-three senteces to (advanced) Enlish.
    (6) Beautifull blond female character who does not draw attention of other men around.
Also: the same person with absloutely no trace of what has happened to her and her family - after she's lost husband, son, herself being nearly burried alive with her daughter. Yet, in matters of days - perfectly smooth skin, bright face, no trace of recent tragedy in her eyes and behavoiur.
    (7) Ratio of men vs women. It seems at the frontier there was major disproportion in terms of genders. Many more men, women seemd to be rare. Hence - see p. (6) above.
    P.S.
I must admit though - I absolutely loved 😍 the scenery in the background. Beautifull things at the horizon! 😉

I have seen it twice and wanted to address done of your objections.
      1) didn’t really notice or find anything jarring about it
      2) fair-ish, but since the whites are treated the same I can’t really complain. It’s also kind of fallacious to assume everyone in the past had bad teeth.
      3) I was watching for this the second time. They definitely did use “Indian” in at least one scene. And it’s pretty much just the one character who says Indigenous, which was a term in existence, and makes sense in context though I would also expect to here “natives”. I would have to consult primary sources to know if the word is completely out of place. While “Indians” was the more general term used by the government, that doesn’t mean use of the other word is necessarily wokeness, even though that’s how it is used today.
      4) you are assuming racism because of the past. But we don’t know where they arrived from, and life together in an inhospitable clime tends to help eliminate such things when important work is at hand.
      5) It’s implied that the young one speaks English natively. Perhaps was found orphaned snd raised by whites before the Apache took him in. I suspect this will come up in later chapters. But if seemed clearly intentional.
      6) I don’t think that’s true. And i think there’s some time skipping in the last hour of the film.
      7) I also reject this. It may seem true among the Apache. But you have to realize the ratio seems off later because we’re concerned with particular stories and because most women in the town of Horizon were killed in the attack. Many others go elsewhere. We only follow Sienna miller, and it’s obvious why the ratio is different: they are at a military camp! On the wagon train there are a number of women as well.

It was painfully evident it needed a editor. Narrative is extremely unwieldy. I walked out after 2 hrs & 30 minutes.

Horizon was attended by more female audience members than male. Kevin Costner has more female fans than male fans. Westerns are supposed to be fast paced, action packed with losta killing. I love ❤️ westerns and have absolutely no interest in this Streaming Service miniseries.

Since when are Westerns supposed to be end to end violence and gore? That is a very immature view of the genre, and of film in general. Picking a film where part one alone is three hours long was where you lost the narrative ... 🙄🤨

One of the worst films that I've ever watched, and it was 3 hours long. I felt abused at the end. I don't know what I disliked more, the lousy multiple story lines or the blatant disregard for historical accuracy. The characters were all wearing brand new outfits that looked like they just pulled them out of the dressing room closet. Not to mention the hottie women throughout the film with their perfect, modern sculpted eyebrows or the chief with the manicured nails or the cowboy with the veneers. So many things just ripped me right out of this movie. And then they fast forward montage at the end to finish it? Unbelievable.

@@PetePuebla Don't pass on it. Guy is making the rounds on a number of reviews to complain about it and 99% of it is because he is an obsessive-compulsive person who has a self-confessed inability to overlook the slightest flaws. If you Pete enjoy history and a good Western, Horizon delivers in spades. Go see it or catch it when it streams.

People loved Clint Eastwood movies because he was always on screen and waiting to kill a bad guy or beat someone up.I’m not interested in a ten year saga from Kevin Costner…🥱
