- The first of four movies that span over a 12-year period, Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 establishes the multiple storylines in this American Western epic. Directed, co-written, and produced by Kevin Costner, the passion project features a massive ensemble cast that also casts Costner as one of the main protagonists alongside actors like Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, Jena Malone and more. Set both before and also after the American Civil War, the films follow the stories of settlers and pioneers who expanded out west to start a new life in an unforgiving land. Gritty and brutal at times, the film doesn't shy away from just how difficult life can be, not only for those looking to start over in the west, but also for the Native Americans who found their homes being invaded by violent outsiders.
In Chapter 1, Costner stars as Hayes, a travelling, stoic type who meets a woman named Marigold (Abbey Lee) in a small town and quickly gets tangled up with her. They end up on the bad side of the Sykes, a powerful family in the area, and are forced to go on the run with a child in tow. Although Hayes and Marigold strike up a brief romance, that quickly fades when Marigold abandons Hayes and the child by the end of the movie, leaving the man alone once again. We spoke with Costner about what he hoped to achieve with the Horizon series and what makes it stand out.
We also talked to him about the Apache storyline that begins in this first movie. Costner teased a bit of the later movies, where we get a glimpse of the man behind all of the Horizon fliers - Giovanni Ribisi as the mysterious Pickering - and looks forward at the series as a whole. I can't watch movies in the theater because of my physical problem with severe arthritis. So I waited till it came on Max and wow did he deliver!!! Every Western that he has done have been outstanding. I give this film 100%. I so look forward to seeing the next one. I don't know if you watch these videos Mr. Costner but you're amazing, talented, and wonderful human being made by the hands of God. Such a breath of fresh air after all the superhero stuff and everyone wanting a giant franchise with massive worlds and all, when you’ve got so much history in this country in itself to explore. Love the direction and can’t wait to see it all.
We need to see the rest of this Saga. I've watched Chapter 1 so many times, but there is always something you missed. Such an Epic watch! I want to watch 2,3 and 4. ❤

Talk about invested. I can’t wait for the rest of them. I’m was underwhelmed with the first. A little bored. But I trust Kevin and I keep saying it’s a four part piece. Maybe the entire epic is where it’ll all come together. I’ve seen a lot things in the past that were slow, dry, boring but I’ve ALWAYS come out glad I finished it. Most of those I’ve gone back and watched thru multiple times. I trust Kevin and I’m sure I’ll be happy once I’ve seen all 4. What they should do as each piece comes out is provide a screening of each of the previous pieces when showing the new ones. Either all in one day, I realize that would be a long full day by the time the last one comes out. Or over 2 days or 4 nights in a row. I just feel being able to put all the pieces together as you see the next piece will help a LOT. Charge like $5 for the previous ones before the bigger price for the new one. I’d be down for that. I’d still go see each one new. The watch the 3 and the 4 once we get there. I’m looking forward to this even tho I was a bit disappointed with just the first one. It’s 4 parts. Just remember that.
The saga is cancelled.

What channle
Costner should just swallow his pride and cancel the August premiere of Horizon 2. Instead put Horizon 1 out on as many home video options as possible, in hopes it can build some kind of audience and then release Horizon 2 later on, just to help cut the lo$$es.
He is good. He knows all about making movies. I can’t wait to see Horizon. Hope the movie makes a lot of money.
