Absolutely loved this movie!!! It’s deep, it’s raw, it’s violent, it’s historically accurate! Never thought a classic Western in 2024 could be so refreshing!!! Finally a GREAT, QUALITY film, with no “identity politics” or any of the cliche’s and tropes that movies fall into nowadays. No stupid superhero, no remake, no stupid reboot… Just raw, gritty, amazing and epic cinema. Kevin Costner is amazing.
There are 4 parts per Kevin during his speech in Cannes, when he got a standing ovation. I LOVED Dances with Wolves and saw it at least 3 times in the theatre. But to this day I can't watch DwithW bc it is such an emotional ride for me but it still holds a top place in my list of fav movies. I can't wait for this one!!
I loved it. I've read comments from people hating it cause its not enough action, it's slow paced etc etc.. I guess people have just gotten used to instant action films like the Marvels films etc and they need immediate action etc. I like this, this is more old school story telling, the cinematography was beautiful, the story telling is excellent and the build up to whats coming was great. It's called "saga" for a reason. I can't wait for pt 2. I grew up in Apache country and learned all about them in school etc. So for me, this is great Apache's don't get enough of "true" story telling in films. its sad to see it not do so well at the theaters. Again, if it had nothing but green screen action scenes it'd make a billion dollars I'm sure.. Kinda sad where film making has gone, cause the days of old school practical on screen shoots and that being a big part of the story has been missed.
I Just saw it. Acting was great cinematography was great. Script was terrible. I can see why it's going to be a flop. I love westerns. This one is a major dissapointment.
@steviej1995 Dances with Wolves got overwhelmingly positive reviews. Many people just thought GoodFellas should've won the Oscars for Best Picture and Director that year. So much was made about the budget for Waterworld that it was never going to get a fair shake. It's a decent movie though.
Very good point on this being part 1 only. I’m afraid many will forget this because it’s on at the big screen. It’s like Episode 1 only. Meet the characters.
This was great. The haunting music made me feel the scenes. The characters is like you're there seeing them work hard and live during those times. It was a rough time. It's something different. Not some damn remake. A lot of us that grew up pre 2000 will dig this.
If I read right about this movie, this is part one of four. The first two parts are this Summer. Part three just started filming last month (no release date yet) and the final part is still in development
This was a brutal portrayal of the birth of a civilization, a society and culture, crawling through its infancy, from different origins but with an almost universal instinct of survival and how to maintain it. I will be there on August 16th to participate as the clash of these trails explode in a place named Horizon and stumble into adolescence on their way to being molded by their culminated pressure chamber of restrictive environment. Rest assured, I do trust that Mr. Costner will continually increase the brightness within the mind’s eye and the warmth of the hope in hearts of the audiences as he brings about a stunning conclusion in an epic example of the historical Western vision. As for Chapter I? Being blinded by the brilliance of genius can negate the opportunity to be blessed by it. Do not miss the chance offered with Horizon. Bravo, Mr. Costner. All the best in your future endeavors.
Opem Range is his best Western and probably makes the top 10 Westerns or all time. Poor man's Unforgiven with Tombstone's gun fighting scenes but done better.
@@pressrepeat20001883 is great but we will never see another film like Dances with Wolves. If you haven’t watched it but liked 1883. Congrats, you’re in for a treat.
👍 I saw Horizon Chapter 1 earlier this week. Excellent film. Good acting, beautifully scenery, initial development of what appears to be a very interesting story, like the early chapters of any good book. I believe the critics and public giving this film negative or mediocre reviews have become too accustomed to CGI driven silly superhero movies that wrap themselves up in 90 minutes. This film requires an ability to stay focused for more than a nanosecond. Chapter 1 was the 1st 25% of a 12+ hour saga of the American West. I already have tickets for Chapter 2 and will purchase tickets for Chapters 3 & 4 as soon as they become available. Excellent job by Kevin Costner and his entire team of actors, crew, and producers.
Horizon Chapter 1 is absolutely EPIC. Being disappointed with this 1st installment is an impossibility. One of the greatest westerns ever made, period! Quite possibly, the best ever made!
Thank you! I was so hoping this film would be an example of the grandeur and epic, almost mythic quality I have come to appreciate and expect in Costner's best films... As much as the theatrical experience has devolved post-pandemic from one of my favorite things in life to something I rarely engage in, my ass will most definitely be in a seat opening night for this one!
Yes,,,it was a great movie with a good build up to the second one and really looking forward to it,,I could have watched them back to back as I didn’t want the first one it end
I’m glad you made it through the entire movie. 20 minutes in I was exhausted… After an hour I just got up and left. It was excruciating. I have loved westerns my entire life… But as you said, it felt like an epic miniseries… So I think it’s best to wait for it to hit the streaming machine - sorry I wasted my money on theatrical release
Why are critics everywhere blasting this movie? It was well done, interesting storylines and pacing. I didn't realize it was a three hour film going in; it never dragged. Costner love for the West is so evident in this impressive project.
when I went to buy tickets, they only had tickets available in the late evening, I was kind of confused, because I like going to the movies in the morning because I work at night
Yeah. The trailers looked very good. Although I never watched Yellowstone because I thought it was another over hyped modern western mega rich cowboy with as many power tripping scenes at possible, I've always liked Costner as an actor. Glad u thought it was good and worthy of continued watching for the future releases.
In an interview he did recently, he acknowledged its 4 films. But potentially 6 or more. Which sheesh. That tells me its going to be a mess. Especially given that hes using his own money. I have a sneaking suspicion as a whole the sage wont be good. But i hope it is. I dont wish for any film to fail. Unless its a film about hate for hate sake.
A lot of Costner’s films have mixed to negative responses and I usually love them, so that doesn’t deter me.. He hasn’t missed with the Western genre and feel he won’t here either.
I thought I heard a couple days ago on Good Morning America or another morning show that interviewed him that this was gonna be a 4 part series. Is it 2 or 4? Either way I’m excited to watch it.
Great review I completely agree with your comment "if you like Westerns you'll like this" ! Movie is getting some flak for being too much like a series on Net flicks or Max and not a "real" movie that's just bunk IMHO !
Thank you, Harloff! Not just for the reaction but for making me feel like I'm 7 feet tall 😂
🤣
I was a little nervous when I clicked this, but very happy hearing the positive reaction.
He is about to interview someone on the cast, whilst i don't think he would lie, he would have used some sidestep'y language if needed ha.
It was horrible don't waste your money, Google fmovies , however a quiet place day one amazing film
Loved it and if you thought it was disjointed you just didn't get it?😂 😢

You didn’t think it was too long? I am thinking about seeing it today because it’s so hot
@@MaxxRemKing1I personally thought the 3hr run time was well used. Wasn’t bored at all and loved the movie
Part two just got pulled.
You're gonna have to wait now
it sucks
Absolutely can’t wait for these to come out.
The scene with Costner and Jamie Campbell Bower talking and walking (until it leads to something dangerous) was a key scene.
Critics shit all over Wyatt Earp and that’s one of my favorite westerns. I’m glad you enjoyed this.

What critics? Gen Zers that only like comic book movies? Or others who are offended by what they saw in the film. Their opinions don’t count.
So happy you liked it
Great reaction harloff, doesn’t come out till July here in Australia but driving an hour to see it for my birthday next month can’t wait!
