    Although most vehicles come with keyless entry, past generations were not as fortunate to come equipped with this feature. Adding an aftermarket system to an older vehicle is easier than one would think. I lucked out and my 240SX already had aftermarket door lock actuators installed which saved a bunch of time.
    These units can be purchased for very little money. Don't hesitate when seeing some around the $10 mark, the technology is old and the units are very cheap to make when produced in mass amounts.
    Thanks for watching! 240 has already come quite a way in six months. Need to get another look at the front end suspension and decide on replacing the front coils. Make sure to check at the end of the week for the next vid!

    Great video and well described install. I purchased a similar kit and installed in my WD21 Nissan Pathfinder that had factory central locking but no actuator on the drivers door. I didn't want to put holes in the doors so I just connected to the inside wiring and so all locks except the drivers door lock/unlock. This is OK as I mainly have to unlock/lock my car 20+ times a day to get tools etc out of the rear of the vehicle and this saves me some time and effort. Do you know if you can program more than two keys to the module? BTW, you look and sound a bit like James Hetfield from Metalica in this video. (Not a bad thing) ;-)

    Hi, I really need your opinion on this. BTW, Thank you for this vid but I have questions since Im having problems installing mine. I think we have the same situation. I put a central locking system in my car with the motor actuators and rods. Then I bought a keyless entry system with the remotes only same as yours. I followed the wiring diagram on the manual which is same with what you did in this video. So i started with, Red with the fuse on the 12v, Black on ground, then brown wires on parking lights. For the central locking module I used 2 yellow wires to 12v then 2 orange wires to ground and the 2 white wires to lock and unlock wires (blue/green) but upon testing IT GOT SMOKED. What should I do?

    • @HomebrewSubaru
      @HomebrewSubaru  4 роки тому

      Lucky I actually found this diagram the other day. Going over what you said, it sounds like you got a bad module. Sounds like you got the wiring perfect. Make sure to check the actuators work well by giving them 12v and ground directly. Any real issues should have blown a fuse, so I'm thinking you got a dud

      @@HomebrewSubaru Hey! Thanks for replying! I found a comment on another youtube video which helped me and could help others cause I think he was a worker for automotive repair.
      What he adviced me was the white wires should go on the brown and white wire on the central lock module which was originally for the rocker button switch option. So it goes like this on the keyless entry system module. Red goes to 12v, black to ground, then for the central lock module, do not use the orange wires, then yellow wires on ground, then the 2 white wires on the brown and white wire of the central lock module thats supposed to be for the switch. It worked well! I was really happy and excited! I was in doubt at first since all of the yt videos did the same wiring like I did before but did not work. I waited if there was smoke but there wasnt! I was browsing ebay and the box said (siren optional). Does that mean that you could hook it up to your door trigger so that it'll go off if your door is opened when the alarm is armed? I just tried 2 separate $30 Avital 3100 LX alarm systems from Amazon because it had the same brain as the Viper 3100V but both were defective. The unlock/lock features worked intermittently and the door trigger input also worked intermittently. I tested everything with a multimeter and I believe the avital brain doesn't send a strong enough ground to the switch to unlock/lock the vehicle. Also strange how the door trigger input doesn't work.

      My 240 is a 1990. It didn't come with power locks. In the video before this one where I install the stereo, I remove the door panels and you can see the aftermarket door lock actuators that the previous owner must have installed.
      I just wired this keyless entry system to them.

    • @HomebrewSubaru

    • @tnamen1307
      @tnamen1307 6 років тому +1

      Homebrew Subaru yes it's brand new, i have been using for about 1 months and now the receiver is not working. Please suggest how to replace the IC receiver controller chip. I went to electronic repair shop and most were recommending to buy new module since the only chip would be hard to find in market. Really sad about this news.
      Module does received power but it doesn't received signals...that's all. At this time, I want only the IC chip.

    • @HomebrewSubaru
      @HomebrewSubaru  6 років тому +1

      I think the electronics shop is correct. The chip could be common, but I doubt that it is. The manufacture could be making the hardware in house as these units are mass produced. For the time you might spend, buying a replacement unit is the way to go.
      Have you tried unplugging power from the module and reprogramming the fobs?

    • @HomebrewSubaru
      @HomebrewSubaru  7 років тому

      The aftermarket modules usually maintain remote coding even when the battery is disconnected. If you need to relearn a remote the procedure is the same as install. Hold the learn button for 5 seconds, park lights will flash once and then stay lit. During the time the park lights are on, press a button on the remote to code it. Park lights should flash indicating the remote has been coded.

    • @HomebrewSubaru

      The blue wire sends a ground output to the trunk release. If your trunk release requires B+ power to open, you will have to use a relay. The trunk is released by holding the trunk button for 2 seconds. If the remote does not have a trunk button, unlock the doors then hold the unlock button for 2 seconds.

      It sounds similar to what I had in my last Impreza. I custom wired 4 relays and actuators to make my own keyless entry and power locks. The easiest way to do that would be to wire a new module into the old modules wiring harness. If everything was good after that... they should work. I am going to install the same keyless entry on my Impreza this spring and make a vid.

    Can't read from your video Instructions of Wiring, to out of focus and to small print. Try Pink Wire as the trunk another wire is for the horn to blow or maybe you want another system to flash the lights (head lights bright & dim, brake lights flashing as also the parking lights and a siren if you want to anti burglar proof your vehicle) then use the pink wire for a relay to turn that system off. Good Luck
    What if the auto already has a combination lock which is unknown its combination to unlock the chip key (only one supplied) that is mainly for the steering column, unknown if function of RFID is for key entry of driver door but is not for the rear hatchback door (unknown again - I doubt that). 2001 Ford Expedition.
