The line after the first round- “take his Heart, if you hurt him you’ll take his heart” this is true in the context of the film as well as real life, if drago gets hurt he’ll know that he is isn’t invincible and Rocky is dangerous, and in real life boxing, once a boxer gets hurt bad with a cut they get spooked and become a shell of themself for the rest of the fight
The thing is this is the most boxing a lot of people are exposed to. Then Mayweather vs McGregor comes around, and people wonder why they aren't going right in throwing haymakers like in these movies.
@@nahor88 because this isnt boxing there is absolutely zero technic demonstrated in this movie. and ppl think this is boxing, just 2 guys brawling with boxing gloves.

Heart and determination beat size, superior strength and the Hammer and Sickle. Love it! Then again Rocky was a seasoned veteran with experience. Though the Heart of Balboa won out and prevailed, granted it's only a movie, absurdly glorious as it was.
Yea way too fake for me. He was so seasoned but spent tons of his energy punching the guys rock hard abs. I'm pretty sure he knows that's just tickling him. Dumb but like you said, it's a movie. The guys arms were a mile long, he had zero chance really if it wasn't a movie.
Best line out of all Rocky movies. Ivan is made of domination and cant be beaten-- but then for that one brief second in the ring, Rocky bested Ivan -- just for a second! That cut (and the line you quoted) represent hope in the face of certain defeat. So moving.
What makes me laugh is that in the 3rd movie apollo and his trainer teach rocky to become a more skillfull jab using elusive fighter , but in this that goes all completely out the window
Philip Carole Tomlimson He actually does move more fluently in this fight like he did in rocky 3. You can tell that he's trying to move his head around more at the beginning of the fight, but Drago kept punching at him with that long reach, so rocky didn't have much of a chance to jab at him constantly. He definitely fights better right here than he did in the first 2 movies.
Philip Carole Tomlimson actually that technique and style he learned from Apollo was to help him knock Clubber out within 3 rounds because after that Rocky would've been worn out
This is actually Rocky's third style :P. In 1 and 2, he was basically a poor man's Rocky Marciano. In Rocky 3 he was adopted an Ali esque approach with more aggression. And now he's more like Joe Frazier
Philip Carole Tomlimson I agree completely. He also would not be able to take this punishment in real life and come back hit Drago 20 times and win. He was totally destroyed this fight.
Yeah, I remember seeing this for the first time as a kid on cable tv, and at least the old broadcast version has subtitles for when speak Russian, so I remember that line about him being like a piece of iron sticking out to me.
I have 2 ideas about that. One, Rocky was so fueled by revenge that all of his training went out the window and he went back to what he always has been, a brawler. Two, Apollo tried dancing around and sticking and moving, and we know how that ended.
Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago would've been insane to see in the Rocky films. Drago has his longer reach and deadly punching power but lacks Clubber's hateful desire to destroy what stands in front of him with a bad attitude to boot. Let's remember Rocky only beat Clubber because he adopted; Apollo's more technical and faster fighting style because he trained him for the rematch. While Drago has incredible punching power (due to steroids) and longer reach. A fight between them might end in draw or both men killing each other.
Both of them have deadly punching power and can take a lot of punishment. However, the difference maker would be stamina which Ivan Drago has a distinct advantage of over Clubber Lang. Drago has the stamina and conditioning to last 15 rounds. Lang, on the other hand, does not and has a tendency to tire himself out with his boxing style after 2 rounds. Drago is smarter than Lang because he knows when to conserve his energy and not waste punches while Lang will just keep swinging away regardless. Lang is physically stronger than Rocky Balboa so his punches would probably do more damage to Drago if they connect. Lang's only hope would be to try to knock Ivan out early within 3 rounds. If it the fight goes past 3 rounds, Lang will be out of steam and Drago will go in for the kill and take the victory.
For some reason the line “You cut him! You hurt him! You see?! He’s not a machine, he’s a man!!” paired with the music will never fail to give me chills
when you have home advantage is a must win. when the visitor wins is embarrassing. it was embarrassing for Ivan he lost home advantage against Rock at Russia.
I really wish that when Drago threw down his fists at the beginning of the fight, Rocky's didn't give. Would have been an awesome call back to the Apollo/Drago pre-fight moment from earlier in the movie.
I remember going to see this just going into 6th grade 1985/86. The crowd was NUTZ in the theater due to the old USSR vs. USA era, especially when Apollo dies. Still one of THE best fight scenes in a movie ever :D
0:40 -0:50 those ten seconds make all the difference in the world to me . when i was fighting years ago my dad would always tell me the same before sparring or fighting it always gave me the strength to stand toe to toe with whoever was infront even if i was nervous .
@@julsc2106 'Ricky I' is a spoof movie from decades ago... he ended up winning the fight by not throwing ANY punches and letting the champ exhaust himself until he drops
Exactly. However, per Stallone, the original punching scenes filmed between he and Lundgren in the first portion of the fight are completely authentic. One particularly forceful Lundgren punch to Stallone's chest slammed his heart against his breastbone, causing his heart to swell & his breathing to become labored. Carl "Apollo Creed" Weathers threatened to leave in the middle of filming Creed's death match for Lundgren's aggressiveness. [Source: Stallone interview from aintitcool webpage]
The irony of this scene is each realises the scale of the man in front and of him. Ivan Drago sees a seemingly unbreakable ‘piece of iron’. While Rocky NOW sees someone who is ‘not a machine’ but ‘a man’, someone that however big and strong Rocky NOW knows this ‘man’ can be hurt. Drago likewise understands Rocky ‘The Italian Stallion’ Balboa doesn’t hurt quite so easily.
