As a lifelong member I appreciate that only Joseph and a few of his contemporaries are on record claiming spiritual knowledge of the locations of the BoM. I too fumbled with the idea that Moroni traveled thousands of miles from the Yucatán (where I served my mission) or Guatemala or more south with any of those artifacts, it’s not possible or efficient to go unnoticed unless he was “cloked” per se. I still don’t claim to know where it occurred, but the evidences and parallels are becoming undeniable that it was near or around or close to where the plates were hidden up in the Hill Cumora. I just don’t know where the mountains are or the rivers exactly, a few other things. But, that has no bearing on my spiritual testimony I received myself from God when I was 19 years old. It’s a precious moment that I can’t deny, lest I lose all that I have.

Wayne May is amazing. His work would easily qualify for a PhD. I say this as one with a PhD who was a professor for 27 years and had over 80 PhD and MS/MA students graduate under my advisorship. I have been working with Wayne for several years and become more impressed with his knowledge each day. Wayne is the best scholar on the topic I know and I would give him his well deserved respect and attention. Dr. Kevin Price.

@@jameswinesgreenspunjhs8954 I can tell you Wayne May knows the Bible very well. As a former Bishop and a 40+ year member who studies the Bible, your comments are bases on your own ignorance. I will forward Wayne your very ignorant comments and see if he can stop laughing. I will be talking to Wayne in a few minutes. I suspect he has more important things to do than respond to comments like yours, but I will see what he has to say. We are planning a conference in the Nauvoo area in mid-August and so he is pretty busy right now. We have some very exciting news, but will wait until after our conference to release the findings. The evidence continues to build and it is becoming overwhelmingly strong to those who are not trying to throw rocks at us.

Ever since I read that Joseph Smith had found some old Nephite bones during Zion's Camp, I knew that parts of the Book of Mormon had to take place in North America. I wrote an adventure for kids that fully supports the Book of Mormon. For kids ages 9-13, and it's fun! At Amazon and titled - Arrowheads, Heroes & Rebels, and Treasure!

I am a lifelong member of the LDS Church, but a new North America Heartland convert. What changed for me was learning those who support Mesoamerica were all in with the absurd stone in a hat translation. It made me take a closer look at the teachings of Joseph Smith. They have dismissed what he has said for so long that I was blinded against the many detailed statements about North America. There are still problems I see, but not nearly as many as Mesoamerica.

  • @scottmartin1845

The Apostles starting with Joseph Smith have all spoke of North America as where the Book of Mormon events took place. There are very firm statements from different apostles solidifying North America. Wayne May’s work gives a visualization of the geography using very clear facts. I’d really hoped to make it to the Ohio museum that has helmets, breastplates and fabric this summer but will have to wait until next.

His work and others who follow the Heartland model led me to read the BOM, visit the Hill Cumorah and Joseph's homestead when we lived in Western NY.

I have watched most if not all of Wayne May’s presentations and it just makes sense. To me it is easy, simple, and poetic in terms of the evidence of Book of Mormon geography being in the heartland. It blows my mind that some people can get contentious over this and think if I follow this data that I’m being deceived. I served a mission in Rancagua Chile and walked through ruins in that country trying to imagine the war chapters in that land. I see it more clearly here in the USA. I may never be able to persuade other members of the church that the Book of Mormon took place here(What an ironic statement), but I am so grateful there are those like Wayne, Jonathan Neville and others who make the effort to uncover this information. I do have a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It is not based on this geography evidence. Thank you for posting this presentation.

I think a major issue is that for over half a century the geographical ambiguity of the BoM has been a great missionary tool; all "indigenous" peoples from Alaska to Chile to the Pacific islands have been told the BoM is about their ancestors. So now you have evidence vs tradition, and I think history has shown that tradition is usually favored.

..Northern States Mission, 1907 Edition of the Book of Mormon is an interesting find. It would be equally interesting to examine the scholarship that resulted in the specific footnote references being removed from subsequent editions. Any conclusive references would aid in an in depth study of the record of the people that inhabited the land, but it appears that leaving specific options open to conjecture, was deemed preferable to making specific references.

Sounds like a logical deduction from the Hebrew pronunciation to an anglicized version. There is a book "Gospel of the Great Spirit" by Joshua Bennett who is a former Jew who had access to the Vatican Library in documenting Native American histories and correlations with Biblical and Book of Mormon histories. Toward the end, there is an index which shows some of the characters from the Book of Mormon translation (Anton Script) with the Cherokee letters. It is uncanny the similarities. :) The Mikmaks seemed to have more purity in some of their stories and traditions from what I have seen, as they were more northward and isolated. :)

The book of Mormon took place over all of America, North and South America. Even the book of Mormon says so, they filled the entire land north and south. The evidence is just now starting to show this. These people lived on this continent for around 900 years, that’s a long time to populate a continent. We’ve only been in America for around 400 years, since the Mayflower. By the way the Book of Mormon people are still here, we call them Native Americans.

There is a much shorter course around the African coast to the southern coast of North America. I recently read the Book of Mormon again during this pandemic and I could see the Finger and Great Lakes area as the place were the place of the Nephites and Laminates.

It is a case of inquiring into what really happened pre-Colombian. It is reckoned by many that at least some of the North American Indian head dress plumages bore striking resemblance to the head dress attire seen with ancient Egyptian saecophacai.

I am just wondering what you think of the research of Phyllis Olive and her hypothesis that the area of the Book of Mormon takes place in upper New York and Canada around the Great Lakes and Finger Lakes of NY. I enjoy watching her UA-cams as well as yours. It seems her territory is about as much as a Nephite could walk in a day, and not the whole eastern United States and midwest. Her hypothesis is that the Mulekites/Jaredites came through the St. Lawrence River and down around the Great Lakes, and the Lehites came up the Delaware and settled in Pennsylvania before moving upward into New York. She cites the Gadianton Robbers were Celts, Druids, and Vikingesque peoples who were already here with their religions of sun gods and moon gods, and they built the mounds that align with the sun, moon, stars, etc. Then they tried to force their religions on the Nephites/Lamanites. They were in the midwest where the mounds were built. She's been writing books about this since the 1990s, I think. I think both of your hypotheses are very interesting, having lived in Pennsylvania, and attended the Hill Cumorah Pageant since the 1980s (so sad it's not performed anymore). But you both have me convinced the Book of Mormon lands are not in Central America. However, I heard President Nelson telling someone (on a video) that the Book of Mormon takes place in "the ancient Americas." Well, Canada is part of the Americas, too. I appreciate all research in this vein.

He, and most other Latter-day Prophets all believed the Book of Mormon took place in this country, as the fulfillment of Isaiah's end-time prophecies (as well as Daniel, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Joseph Smith etc.). Marion G. Romney was especially vocal about this country being where the Jaredites, Mulekites and Nephites lived.

@@ComeFollowMeLatterDayMedia So, Mordecai Hopewell was the person who owned the farm where part of an extensive earthwork site was excavated in 1891. Yet the civilisation has been called "The Hopewell civilisation" taken from the surname.
However, if you ditch the surname and use Mordecai you can get Mordecaites. Like Nephites, Jaredites Lamanites etc etc.
Also the name Mordecai is one of the main personalities in the Book of Esther in the Hebrew Bible, the son of Jair, of the tribe of Benjamin. So the name Mordecai itself holds weight from the Bible.
Then if you look at the books of the Old Testament, 2 of the last 3 books are Haggai & Malachi.
Haggai is written about 520 bc
Malachi is written around 430 bc.
Nephi 1 starts around 600 bc
So the time periods not only overlap BUT Haggai & Malachi are the only two in the Old Testament that end in the letter "i".
Seeing as Haggai & Malachi were both Prophets "technically" you could say that lots of people followed these Prophets (Haggaites & Malachites)
The Old Testament comes to an end as the Book of Mormon begins in America then fast forward to 1891 and you get the name of Mordacai Hopewell. Which is an unusual name.
In the 1850 census, the top 20 names for males born in 1801-1810 were: John, William, James, Thomas, George, Joseph, Samuel, Henry, David, Daniel, Jacob, Charles, Benjamin, Robert, Isaac, Peter, Stephen, Nathan, Lewis, Edward. 65%, or 13 out of 20, are Biblical names.
In the same census, the top 20 names for males born in 1841-1850 were: John, William, James, George, Charles, Henry, Thomas, Joseph, Samuel, Robert, David, Edward, Daniel, Jacob, Francis, Benjamin, Albert, Lewis, Frank, Andrew. 55% are Biblical; some non-Biblical names like Edward, Frank, Albert, and Lewis have knocked out Biblical names like Isaac (#21) and Peter (#24). But 16 of the top 20 names in 1801-1810 were still in the top 20 in 1841-1850.
In the Latin alphabet, "Jehovah" begins with an "i".
(Revelation 21:6) says "He said to me, 'It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End'"
The Book of Mormon starts with Nephi and ends with Moroni.
Everything is all interlinked in a very spectacular way.

7 Foundational Principles of Book of Mormon believers-
    1) A Spiritual Witness [aka feelings] is more important and more reliable than material evidence to prove something true and should be prioritized over material evidence.
    2) If someone does decide to look for material evidence, despite it being inferior to a Spiritual Witness, he/she must give greater weight to any evidence that supports Book of Mormon historicity and dismiss/ignore evidence that does not support Book of Mormon historicity.
    3) One must ignore or dismiss the numerous claims that previous LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators made about Book of Mormon origins, archaeological evidence, geography, etc if science has now disproved those claims because they must have all been “speaking as a man” when they made those claims.
    4) One must ignore the fact that Joseph Smith used the Seer-stone-in-a-hat method for years to deceive people prior to using the same deceitful method to “translate” the Book of Mormon, because God really did make words appear on the stone in the hat for Joseph to read out loud to his scribe despite Joseph being unable to locate any treasure using the exact same method. In other words, the fraudulent method didn’t work previously but God made it work for the translation of the Book of Mormon because God is omnipotent.
    5) One must ignore the fact that Joseph Smith has a long history of dishonesty such as deceiving others about buried treasure and lying to his wife and the members of the Church about having multiple wives, including teen brides as young as 14 years old, because a Spiritual Witness can verify that he was telling the truth about the Book of Mormon.
    6) One must ignore the fact that many LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators, including Joseph Smith, have made many false claims and even taught things the church now claims are “false doctrines” because those same LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators have also promised and testified that they will “always teach the truth”, that, “[t]he Lord will never permit me [President Wilford Woodruff] or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray”, that “[t]he Lord will never let the General Authorities of this Church lead it astray”, that “[t]he Lord will never let his mouthpiece lead the people astray”, that “[t]he prophet will never lead the Church astray”, that Prophets “won’t lead you astray”, that Prophets won’t “lead anyone astray”, that, “[t]hat’s not what prophets do”, that, “[i]f the President of the church should ever lead people astray, God would take him away”, and that, “God won’t lead you astray, and the prophet will not lead you astray, because God loves you”, and I can trust a Spiritual Witness that those promises and testimonies are true.
    7) I can fully trust what LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators tell me is true, regardless of their past record of teaching “false doctrine” and making claims that have now been conclusively disproved, because even if I receive a Spiritual Witness that something they are claiming is true is actually false, I can know of a surety that the Spiritual Witness I received was Satan trying to lead me astray because LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators have said so.

astrolen@hotmail.com replies. This is a prophecy of the time when the New Jerusalem is established, it is future, in a few years time. In the Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 20:16 and 17 you find the quote you are referring to. Look at verses 12 and 13 of same chapter. The house of Israel/Jacob is made up of 12 tribes not just Manasseh. The remnant the Saviour is talking about here are gathered from N,E,S,W. We also know that the "Lost Ten Tribes" will come from the north country singing songs of everlasting joy when they get to New Jerusalem. Me thinks the Saints need to learn to study the scriptures and the words of modern prophets (Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Orson Pratt, and the Institute manuals) in depth. Happy hours of studying which it will take, but it is good for the testimony. I took an hour for this reply by checking scripture dictionary and cross referencing, + checking other sources mentioned above. Please everyone do the studying. President Nelson is in communication with the the Saviour they know what is about to happen now. Look carefully at his 2020-2021 conference addresses.
