Thank you. Puck prep is either spot on or equally crapy for all 3.😛 I was surprised myself. I recalibrated my refractometer after each reading just to be sure.
Have you done a test of the high hole baskets vs. the bottom paper technique in a standard VST/IMS? Lance did but I’m interested to see if others feel the same.
I'm owning a DE1 since less than a month and a Unibasket (16g version). With my old machine, i had no problems using the basket with 16g and it worked almost perfect. With the Decent I have a problem getting it to the right pressure and also having a really wet puck. Need to overfill the basket to 19g & also went from ~13 to 4 on my df64g2.
DE1 always gives puck that is more wet vs other machines. As for the rest, you can check and adjust water flow and few other things. Not every profile will work with every basket. Experiment until you are happy with the taste of your coffee.
@@mycoffeeshow111 thank you for your reply :) It was the first time, i'm experiencing that much of a difference. It's good to know, that the de1 often gives a soupier puck. Overdosing that much and grinding a lot finer to get the right ammount of pressure felt really wrong to me. 😃
@@n_raz since I installed the new water dispensing plate, it is a bit drier but if you get your machine recently it already comes with this new part in.
Your videos have improved tremendously. I like the effects and music. Your enthusiasm comes through on everyone. I’m glad you compared all the baskets. The AliExpress basket looked promising but I don’t think I want a wobbly basket.
Thank you very much! For around $30 it is not that bad but I have been told there are other, thicker baskets with 3k holes available. Maybe I will try them next.
another fab video Jack! thanks - I like my espresso with thick body and old school chocolate and nuts and I am thinking if I wanted to go beyond my VST then the Weber sounds like it is more me than Wafo… it is so useful to watch these comparisons!!! invaluable
Save your money and use your stock basket for best results :D *Seriously though if you wanted more body for chocolate and nutty type coffees, stock basket is likely best! But it also will depend on your grinder (and the coffee of course).
Fun video. I have the Weber basket but I don’t like it and don’t use it. I found it very difficult to dial in a shot and because the holes go all the way to the edge the shots are very messy and drip down the sides of my espresso cup.
Thanks for the comparison. I have a hard time convincing myself to spend $200 on a basket and will probably skip the aliexpress one if it can't handle 9 bars. One question - isn't the temperature difference between cups enough to reveal which shot is which? I mean, unlike cupping where also cups are brewed at the same time, with espresso there's be some difference, even more so if you have to replace the basket. And the way the crema looks is another sign as to which one was brewed first.
Thank you for watching. If you are happy with what you have then stay with it and save yourself some money. As for crema, I try not to look at the shots plus my eyes are bad and I don’t see well anyway. The way I shot the video, if there are multiple samples, I dial in the coffee first and record the flow of espresso if I am happy with the time of extraction. Afterwards there is a test time- everything is ready, I know the grind settings ect, and I pull shots one after another fast. Sometimes, but that is usually with pour overs, I try to lower the temperature of the last cup by pouring it into another cup and back. I also keep the first shot glass hot and last glass at room temperature. I was thinking about using thermometer but that would only add to complexity. Nothing is perfect but learned by experience, I don’t try to second guess myself and just think about what is in front of me.
I have done one video with paper filters (ua-cam.com/video/jT3wetvhRZU/v-deo.html). This one is all about how that cheap basket performs by itself. Personally I was never a fan of filters- too much hassle. Do you think they would change the result significantly?
@@ihavenospacebar231 well, it didn’t make that much difference in that last video but to be sure I would have to run multiple samples with different roasts and profiles. I think there is a way to make fake Wafo better but by playing with profile more like to slow the extraction (over 30sec).
@@mycoffeeshow111 the best! Looks like it will be a while before something better comes along. Across the board with many coffees it has been my experience that I’m getting better shots with Wafo than anything else. Cheers
@@mycoffeeshow111 I’m curious as well. I’ll be trying one after a bit of time. I’d guess there will be many more to come over the next couple years. 😃 Congrats on the Max2, I have a Max from 2019, I love it.
@@EricPetersen2922 thx. I have to say, after first few shots, I am slightly disappointed with my Max. I blame it on the extra pancake burr on the top. It is well too early to give my final verdict on that but I will share my initial thoughts in the next video.
