    For longer lasting color stability -
    1) Research your printer's process and pigments. 2) Don't use industrial adhesive like Super77, but use art adhesive which is pH balanced and won't act as a solvent to the pigments from behind if there is any soaking of the substrate

    Depending on the thickness of your pour, you in fact need to/should add some heat to help the bubbles. Trust me on experience I have poured probably over 200 gallons of all kinds of epoxies.

    Hello, I trying my luck at putting epoxy over a photo, first I laminated the photo cutting down to the size of the mold for a photograph, then I mixed your product, Art/Resin, equal parts, well, needless to say, my first try flopped, but I didn’t give up, after researching I found out all was not lost, I could still fix it, so I sanded down the areas that needed it then re-pored, worked rather well, as a beginner I’m learning how...one thing....the mixing is the most important, especially with photographs, believe it or not the temperature has a Great influence on the piece drying hard...I was doing this in the garage, which right now the temp is kinda chilly, so I moved into my art studio, had to do some re-arranging, I really like the Art/Resin. Has a nice shinny finish, I didn’t have very many bubbles, mostly because when mixing I found mixing in a clock wise, the counter clockwise scraping sides as I stir, also I took the advise on the instruction about stirring somewhat slow as not to creat bubbles. I might add I used a timer for the mixing.
    The photo I used was of my older sister, just diagnosed with Dementia, she has been placed in a nursing home. So this is kinda a bitter-sweet story, it’s only been two years now that we lost our oldest brother with Dementia.
    I’m basically an artist, but love digital photography, enjoy the manipulation of different photos! I used an App called SuperimposeX to place a photo of her as a young girl, along side of a prayer I found. It breaks my heart that she has this terrible disease and wanted to do something special for her, even though she doesn’t even know me now! I’m hoping she will recognize
    That the photo is of her, but if not, she can enjoy the Prayer, making her happy is what counts.
    Thank you for the video and enjoyed it very much... also thank you for allowing me to tell you my experience with Epoxy and my story.
    Cheers!

      Hi there - those are called painter's pyramids and you can buy them in the paint section of the hardware store, or online! But you can even use plastic cups from the dollar store - and we've even used big lego pieces too. You want to make sure you use plastic because the resin won't adhere to plastic, so you can easily peel it off.

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  Рік тому +1

      This is mounted onto a cradled wood panel. Whether we are painting or mounting a photo, we prefer to work on cradled wood panels rather than stretched canvas as they offer a nice solid surface that won't sag under the weight of the resin. You can purchase cradled wood panels online or at your favourite art supply store.

      Hi Leomar, we have worked with these particular cradled wood panels enough to know that we don't have to pre-seal them for our purposes. You should always test with the materials you are using to be sure. You can use any sealer of your choice that works with your materials, be it brush on or spray, just be sure to let it completely dry before applying your ArtResin.

    This was very helpful. Only wished I had watched this b4 I created the bottom to my serving tray bc where I placed my pics r bubbling up. I used a xyron adhesive to the backs of my pictures to adhere to the wood instead of the spray adhesive and I didn't brayer them down. I was going to use the spray but didn't quite know how to go about it!!! Thanks for clearing that up. Do you think the adhesive I used is the reason all my pics bubbled up or no ArtResin TIA!!!!

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  5 років тому

      Hi Kathy
      Without seeing your piece, I can't say with certainty but I know it has happened to us - we have had bubbling when the print is not properly adhered ( usually due to bare spots that didn't get any glue ). There is always a chance that if the adhesive you used was wet ( like say, white glue ) it could have soaked into the paper and caused the paper to buckle.
      I like using spray adhesive because you can get a really good, even coat without being as wet as white glue. I like using a brayer as well to really make sure the picture has bonded to the surface you're mounting it to.

    • @kathyhill7375

      @@Artresin Thanks very much for responding. It's just weird bc it didn't start buckling till like 3-4 days later and it was only 2 pics and then when I looked again a couple more days later they were all buckling at that point. The adhesive I used wasn't a liquid glue but more like one of the tape runners. However I have a adhesive tool called a xyron machine and its spose to add the adhesive edge to edge but mayb I didn't burnish it long enuff. I do have another question for you....I didn't just resin 1 picture to the piece of wood, I did like 5 or 6 pictures SO what is the best way to spray them, all at the same time or individually, to place them? I do know that the nx pc of wood I try this with I will b using ur way for sure!!!! Once again thanx for responding.

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  5 років тому

      Hi Kathy - If it was me, and I was placing photos on a wood panel, here's what I would do: first, I would seal the wood with a brush on sealant like modpodge. The reason for this is to create a barrier that prevents the wood from offgassing ( releasing trapped air ) and creating bubbles into the resin.
      I would probably seal the photos too, to be on the safe side - the last thing you want is for the resin to absorb into the photo paper. Use a spray sealant for photos ( like Krylon spray ). Let them dry.
      After the photos and wood have dried, then I would mount my photos. If you have 5 or 6 and you're making a collage, I'd probably do them one at a time, so you can take your time. If you spray down the whole piece with adhesive, you might feel rushed to place them all down before the glue dries. If you do it one at time, you can give each photo the attention it deserves :)
      Then I would burnish each one after placing it - lay a piece of paper over top and use a brayer or even your hand or something smooth and flat to really make sure the photo is bonded to the wood and that there are no air pockets. Then once all the photos are down, you can give it a final burnish. Then I'd resin it! :)

    Are you doing art resin on a canvas? Is it safe to do that?

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  2 роки тому

      Yes! Thats what we were made to do :). We prefer the stability of a cradled wood panel, but if you are pouring over a stretched canvas just slide some cardboard in the back to give it some support to prevent it from sagging under the weight of the resin.

    wouldn't you have a better bond if you spray mounted both the paper and the panel?

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  7 років тому +1

      Hi Ruth - sorry I didn't see your comment until now!
      Spraying both sides won't necessarily create a better bond - sometimes using too much adhesive can actually have the opposite effect and it won't dry properly because there is too thick of a layer.
      From what I understand, if you spray both paper and panel, you should wait a bit until it gets to the tacky dry stage, and then mount it.
      Always best to experiment first - if you try it, let us know how it works!

    What kind of picture are you suppose to use can you use a matte finish should it be gloss and do you use any finish like mod podge

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  6 років тому +3

      Hi there! Great questions - you can use either matte or gloss finish. We find that gloss tends to work a little better in the sense that you don't typically need a sealant - the gloss finish allows the resin to simply sit on top and tends not to absorb at all. Sometimes a matte paper might absorb the ArtResin, so we recommend sealing matte photos first. You can use any sealant designed for photos - your art supply store should carry a selection you can choose from. You can use a spray sealant for photos like Krylon or similar, or go all the way up to a product like Glamour2 which is an archival quality brush on sealant. As long as you ensure it dries clear, it's up to you!
      Always test first however ... sometimes there can be a reaction between the ArtResin and the ink which can create tiny bubbles. Testing allows you to see what kind of results you can expect before you resin your final project. And whether you use matte or gloss paper, you can never go wrong by erring on the side of caution and sealing.
      Hope this helps!

      Hi Bob - you can use a variety of adhesives to mount a print to a wood panel. You can use a spray adhesive, you can use a brush on adhesive ( like a white school glue ... ModPodge is similar to this ) or you can use a glue stick. We use all three here. The most important thing is to choose a glue that dries clear and choose one that is safe for photos/prints/paper. It's also important to make sure that the entire surface of the panel gets a coat of glue so that you don't end up with bare spots. Use a brayer tool as Dave suggests in the video to ensure that the print is bonded to the panel and that there is nothing lifting off.

      Absolutely you can use a heatgun - we just prefer the torch. For small pieces we like the butane powered kitchen torch ( like you'd use for creme brulee ) and for large pieces we always use a propane torch.
      We are all about efficiency and in our opinion, nothing beats that direct flame for really getting rid of bubbles :)
