Welcome back! Fellow Australians Pascale and Troy love these. I'm glad you had someone to guide you on proper harvesting and cooking techniques. 🍄 Thanks for sharing.🚿
There used to be a double edged keel(sic). Be in the marina with hoards and hot showers vs being in a beautiful bay with cold showers. BUT now the joy of a hot shower on the boat. How nice⛵️
Walking 2 km over the water! A bit bigger beard on Slim and it'd be almost religious like.🙏😄 Lux spa on deck and the Mermaid Chef going all French Gourmet with the Mushroom McNuggets of the Sea! 😄 Just another Oo-La-La kinda day livin large down under! Cheers guys!❤️🤙
Glad you enjoyed W.A. guys! One thing you neglected to see or mention. At the end of the jetty there is a very cool underwater observatory. You would have enjoyed that. And!! It looks like more windward fun ahead. Cheers.
It is Sunday night for me here in South Carolina, football is done until tomorrow night, and it is such a true pleasure to tune in to Slim and Soph to take my mind away from city life and dive into the pleasure of ocean adventure ! One of the very few marine delicacies I have never had is Abalone. They don't live here on the East coast of America and I think their harvest has been curtailed on the West coast (but I am not confident of that). Regardless, I am jealous that y'all are diving for them and cooking up a feast ! And, so happy for you that there is now hot, freshwater showers available - what a treat ! Love you both - be safe and take care out there ;-} I will look forward to the next adventure !
Love you kids! I share your dislike of crowds. The superlong jetty was . . . interesting. Always good to take a walk! So happy for you to be able to take a hot shower. Enjoy! The abalone looked delish. Safe travels. ❤️
Hahha, glad you understand! Lol, we thought when else do you get the opportunity to walk the worlds longest wooden jetty...its definitely the only jetty we've had to pay money to walk though, so we had to make the most of it 😂Cheers for tuning in legend
Yummy. Good to see you both doing so well. Here's a recipe for slim to try. Tenderise them, dice them, fry them in butter with diced onions. Then ad a bottle of creme. You can also dip your bread into it. Keep up the good work guys. Loving it. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Here in New Zealand we have Paua which is a larger Abalone, highly sort after. We slice or mince then and cook in butter and cream, or garlic butter... We love em!!! Keep it up!
yep yep, Sounds delicious, we have been getting a few good cooking tips from our Kiwi mates for when we get a bit further south and onto some of the bigger species!!
Hi there you can put the abalone in a ice slurry in a esky and they drown and the meat becomes softer then you can slice them horizontally to make thinner pieces and you don’t have to tenderise them so much and garlic salt goes well to 👍
Showers on boats really does up the standard of living. I've just installed one... Inline pump dropped into a bucket of water heated with a kettle full of boiling water... Lovely jubly... Paua looked so nice...
WOW haven't heard of shad Abs. In Vict ours a 4 times the size of them. Your right they taste different than anything else. Safe Sailing guys Go Nakama !
This is awesome!!! Great ep as usual deserves a whole lot of likes 👍 yeah Nothing beats hanging out like an ab with a dancing soph 😅on a good ol Duncanson away from the crowd aye slim
Great video as always we have been watching since the beginning so refreshing and real 😊 it was our pleasure to catch up with you two in Busso our home port it was so nice for you to take the time and for Slim to risk extreme sunburn to chat with a couple of fellow old salties 😆
Amazing you did without warm fresh water showers this long. I've got these panels, they could be used as protection from the rein while providing warm to hot water. If I get a boat I'm not sure they would fit but would try.
I totally relate to COVID destroying my stamina for social situations....I still like people but I can't hang out for hours like I used to. Great video, thank you both.
OMG 😱, totally enjoyed the episode guys ‼️❤️ The jetty was good, yet your abalone harvesting, aaaand cooking was fabulous 🎉🎉🎉 Have never eaten this seafood, yet we do love scallops, and garlic, and cream sauce and pasta. Will have to give it a go. Thanks for the fun. Recipe would e appreciated. 😊 See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
This was a fun video. I just wanted to tell you a couple of things. We have seaweed (kelp) and Abalone in California but not in the Sea of Cortez; why? The water temperature! Cold water. I wish I knew where they started, California or southern Australia. Another mystery of evolution and sea currents. The key to good Abalone as food is to beat the sh_ _ out of them. The water heater is the bomb. I've never seen anything like it. I know both of you appreciate the results! Keep entertaining us. You guys are great.
That wooden pier is how long my gravel driveway is to my two lots. I'm going to develop the other lot and then sell one of the homes and buy a nice sail boat to sail around the world.
Wow You must try that abo... just with some garlic and butter!!! But yes that is food from the gods!! If i saw write i saw some black muscle as well?? Loved the video and safe sailing !!!!
An exquisite shitake with a bit more death involved ... ? That was epic, you two. Thx for another fab episode of your inspiring, adventurous life! :) AuraLee
Rocks make 'break-walls' here; as for pier or jetty, though, I'm not sure of the difference in our lingo, but it's different to a quay or a wharf that's for sure,...or is it 😂 Where are you ?
Living five minutes away from my local beach would seem like a dream. But I live on the North side of the Firth of Forth. So a warm beach see the budgie on mine budgie gone. HAHAHA COLD.
@@SlimandSophSailingNakama Yep, Forget everything you guys have accomplished, sailing around Australia studying degrees, wild weather, croc & shark infested waters, breakdowns, stunning locations, miles for fuel, rations & water, sunburn & sickness, naked sunset champane drinks, walking the longest timber jetty in the WORLD Na Hot Shower, That's Where It's At 😂

Enjoyed this episode Thankyou I was wondering since now you've had a bit if time to use it are you still happy with the aquaheat shower I'm considering for mine too
I’ve been trying to figure out what “vegimite” (sp) is for a long time. First, Yosh on sailing Nanghi was talking about it and I couldn’t find it in any grocery stores so I looked it up on Amazon and they had it, but so many different jars and amounts, it was even more confusing! I thought it was powder until I saw it on Slim’s toast! So, is it like jam? I know I’m not the only confused American…..😂
It's very similar to Marmite. Originally marmite was made with ingredients from animals, so Vegimite was the go to. I would say from memory it's a softer taste than marmite.
If you spread it on like jam, you might be in for a bit of a shock, but the secret to trying it for the first time is lots of butter and just a touch of vegemite, then you will no doubt be hooked haha, but yeah its like a salty spread.
I (Slim) was actually pretty excited to show Soph this as I had visited it as a kid, but unfortunately, you cant just wander down there anymore, it has to be part of a tour, and they were all fully booked out so we didn't manage to get any shots of it
@@SlimandSophSailingNakama Oh cool, I was wondering if it still existed. Having never been down under, I just saw a video about it. It's about time you got that woman hot slower on the boat. Happy Captain ~ happy crew.😉
Cool Jetty. Abalone is delicious and you are correct it's how it's prepared and cooked. If done wrong it's like eating a piece of rubber. This friend of your's taught you correctly. Abalone are plentiful in the colder waters around the world. Particularly West coast of North America, Northern Japan, SE Asia, and where you are along the shores of Western Australia New Zealand has much smaller Abalone, but still very tasty. We have black lip here in Aus, too (similar to Paua) and green lip; these are both much much larger; however, they were not to be found in this particular area. The ones we were going for here were called Roe's Abalone and dont get much bigger fully matured. all of these were well oversized, but we cant wait to get a lil further south and start searching for the bigger species
lol "cold bucket shower" If your taking cold showers its by choice or you have so much basic common sense to learn lol. The sun and your motor provide passive heating use them to your advantage.
Slim reminds me of an extremely happy bumble bee😆
Great to see people living their life out quietly
The cat looked scared when u talked about the hot water shower..... If i was a cat i would also. Nice video.
😂😂Slim cracks himself up at the weirdest sh.t !! So hilarious 😆

They were one of the first sailing channels I ever watched, loved them and I still check in to see what’s happening on the Farm! Great memories!
Thoroughly enjoyed the latest vid. The abalone look delish! We have them where I live in the Pacific NW and have enjoyed their very different flavor.

I chuckled at the comment: ..and the Vegimite, after all, it's Australia. How Australian! I liken it to my US need for peanut butter.
Wait until you see the dinner plate sized Green and Brown lip sized abalone down Hopetoun Esperance way...Yummo.
