- How it going folks,
Hope you all having a cracking day!!! We managed to get a day on Itchen Carrier, which flows into the famous River Itchen, which if your savvy with your history is steeped in fly fishing fame. Needless to say, we were Itchin to get out there and have a crack. We managed a few between us but there was weed cutting upstream of us with rendered out day pretty useless for most of it. However, like Bear Grylls would say we improvised adapt and overcame!
Hope you enjoy,
The Cast Away Crew

There's a stream in central Virginia very much like this. Yes, a chalk stream in VA. I built a 9' 4wt from a Powell blank just to fish that stream. Need to get back up there and do it again before I get too old. Would love to fish the Itchen and the Test before I die as well.
Cracking video with great advice. That Grayling was a belter. Stunning looking fish...Well done guys 👍
PS: I agree with you in reference to the weed cutting, all fisheries downstream should be notified
100% it really does make fishing difficult when the surface of the water is impenetrable 😂
Can't wait mate. looking forward to it.
Well in matey , cracking vid as usual 🤙🤙
Cheers dugs!
Bitchin’ Itchen grayling! Beautiful stream. Way to stick with it in spite of the weeds. Tight lines!
Hahaha yeah, got a bit tough there! Perseverance pays! Cheers Rob tight lines mate
How much dose this cost out of interest as I’m new and would like to get started?
The rive4 Avon south Devon is 250 quid to fish and there all tidlers 😂 nice grayling there 🎣🐟
Oh really, I actually haven’t fished the Avon for trout this year, had a go on the up Avon with manning ford nice beat but not to many fish either. We’re going to north end I think it’s called next week. Hopefully we get some good ones 👊🏼🤙🏽
Very good.
Cheers Ascot! 👊🏼
Awseome video guys! And a seriously kubwa sana grayling there. Love the Swahili commentary! You based in the UK at the moment of back in the motherland?
Haha yeah was a propaa unit!!! I have been for the past year but going back on Saturday! Lots of videos planned and three months to do it so keep a keen eye out! Cheers Sam and tight lines aye !!
@@thecastawaycrew23 lucky you! might be out in Kenya come June for some safaris.. Keep the videos coming!
loving your stuff. Could you tell us a bit more about the tackle you use, ie rod length line weight etc
Simon chuffed your enjoying it matey! Yes I can, I was using my Orvis Superfine Carbon 7’6 3wt... I used a dry dropper rig, a dry fly to hold up a 3mm Nymph! The nymph I was using was one of my own and I have done a YT tutorial on it for your reference! Hope that helps matey? Give me a shout if not!
Could you please tell me why these chalk streams which are supposed to be a mecha for trout, have to be stocked?
Hi Martin, thanks for getting in touch we hope you had a cracking Chrimbo ?! Primarily The stocking has been done to help support and take the pressure off the wild fish in the river, In addition other reasons such as the fact that the Test and other chalk streams is fished regularity which kind of tied into the first... other aspects which can be linked to the idea that taking home a wild fish is frowned upon and therefore a stocked fish is more accepted... all in all it’s a shame that it has to be but there are valid reasons for it too!
We’re all after wild fish at the end of the day! 😉
@@thecastawaycrew23 Cheers man
I may be wrong, but I think that historically, a lot of the stocking has been done to provide guaranteed sport and big fish for the type of occasional but wealthy anglers (such as business clients) who expect success every time. It is probably still carried out because it has been done for as long as anyone can remember, but it is not good for the ecology of rivers.
How far from sea are you? That first fish looked like a sea trout
That was about 15 miles from sea... do they go that far up?? Might be but not sure at all
Yeah, that’s pretty close to be fair. They do go much further up rivers into tributaries and what not. Definitely looks like a sea trout that’s been back in the river a week or so. It’s still pretty silver and pale. Could just be the lighting, If not that’s a sea trout 😍
I think all your rings on your fingers are worst than having a not wet hand in a couple of cases...
Cheers for that Ranori 👍🏼
What nymph you using?
Hi Jonno, apologies for late reply! I was using the nymph I made a fly tying video for here is the link ua-cam.com/video/tK_5kfTUAXA/v-deo.html
Hope this helps!
