I just picked one of these up from a local shop (support your local shop!). I'm floored. Great tone. Love the baked maple neck. I always gravitated toward ebony/rosewood fretboard, but this one plays like butter. Love the jumbo frets for tapping and legato as well...of course an evh is set up just right for these techniques!
Dude I love you; you made me such a better guitarist! Just bought the quilted green Wolfgang standard on reverb. Can’t wait to get it! Also I’m drinking sailor Jerry…
I am so stoked, Cameron! Mine came last week and, at first, I thought, "Oh no, I may have to send this back!" because notes fretted on the first several frets were going sharp, and making chords at that same end of the neck was actually hurting my fingertips. Then I realized the nut slot was not cut deep enough. So I decided to CAREFULLY chisel and sand the nut shelf to get the nut down to where it yields the best playability and much better intonation on those first few frets. The necks on these are so stable that I was also able to set the action lower than any of my other guitars. In other words, the low E-string is 3/64ths inch (at the 12th fret) and the high E-string is approximately 1/32nd! Once I did these two things (and re-strung it with my fav strings), it now plays gloriously!!! I mean, it may actually play better than my Charvel San Dimas, which is just unheard of!! Full disclosure, I've had two Wolfgangs in the past - one of which was a Stealth Special, and this new Standard with the baked maple neck plays as good, if not better, than the previous two. I should mention, it took me a while to realize these pickups are not meant to be "high output". Instead, they are very articulate! You can hear individual notes more clearly within a chord than you would through a higher output pickup. This allows me to let my amplifier do more of the work by turning the volume and gain up a bit more than I normally would with other guitars - meaning more power but also maintaining clarity under gain. I can seriously see getting another of these in a different color someday! (Would this be too gluttonous?!?!? Lol!!)
I just picked this guitar up a few days ago, and I'm having the same problems. The high e string first fret f will not even sound out. I think I'm going to send it back to the store and have them repair it.

Really love my EVH Wolfgang Ziricote. Great balanced middle and low end. Stays in tune better than my American Strat. Easy harmonics and great muted arpeggios with hot pickups. I really think EVH is right about the basswood body being key to depth sound. Also, I really like the colors they keep coming out with. I may end up buying another. You beat me to the punch when you brought up the floyd rose special lol. I agree, not a fan of the specials and for me sort of defeats the point of buying a guitar with a floyd. If you're buying a guitar with a floating bridge, you want the freedom to utilize it to it's full potential without constant tuning issues and any clunkyness. I would've loved to see them go up a step to the Floyd 1000 series trems, even if that meant raising the price a tad to compensate. I still think that would've been a great deal and still garnered plenty of interest in these guitars. From beginners to advanced players alike.
