Don't overwork the blower, torque stress is sent from the paddle shaft keyway to the key in the drive pulley and eventually they eat each other up. I had to replace the shaft and pulley. 8 to 10 of fluffy snow no problem. 8 inches of wet snow, the paddle sound will change letting you know the unit is being overworked. I then switch over to my old snapper 4 horse 2 stage. When the going really gets tough I fire up the 1977 Toro 824 (The Sherman Tank).
I've had to replace that pulley to refresh half the keyway. Then put a dab of jb weld in there. Never had a problem from pushing it through thick snow, but the damage was actually caused by trying to chew ice chunks from plow wakes in my case. (If you take the auger cover off, talking about the large pulley disc connected to the auger. It's relatively cheap and easy to replace - but replacing it only fixes Half the keyway, so that's why I needed jb weld as well)
I’ve had this or one similar I bought at the Toro store 25 years ago and it still starts on the first pull, bet the new Toros they sell at Home Depot aren’t the quality of my old one. Just bought a new two stage Ariens because I’m on a corner and getting tired of pushing it but won’t get rid of it for those 2-3 inch Colorado snows we also get
I had a 721 E. Soon you need to replace the blades and scraper bar, after the clutch cable went off ( because of faulty Z lock), replaced the clutch cable and went off again. I have to replace the idle arm and clutch cable same time. Now I use a 2 stage snow blower.
I think a dot of silicon at the engagement lever points would silence rattle. Still allow normal operation of an otherwise quite low noise machine. Does the key stick out kind of wobbly? That was a lot of back breaking work in no time!
I have a few of them and I have that exact same one and I have a Toro 721 qzr mine has to quick shoot one of them and I have a Troy-Bilt and a two-stage Ariens it's an older model of
Tom W just bought one today...does it really? Gearing up for winter. Any other tips? Replacements belts are pretty cheap about $10 but auger not so much lol.
@@mikestefani4596 no he's wrong. Id rather replace a $10 belt than auger paddles for $30+. Besides, its meant to engage and disengage constantly. People always talking out of their ass.
I have the toro commander
It’s a beast
At 20 yrs old it is still going strong !
I miss my Toro...and I just used it yesterday. Bring it on winter. 21 years of me and my Toro kicking your ass...
Wow....that thing is a beast....I'd loved to have seen the blower tackling that 12-15 inch.....great job
Wow ... awesome snowblower . Going to get one for next years winter .

Just take half a bite if the snow is really wet

I have one and like it. A slight lift on the handle and it pulls itself along

I've used a 2 stage for years, but I want to get a single stage as well, now that I know how capable they are for a lot of uses.

Hope you never have a windy day my friend
I know this was five years ago but the awful metal noise when it’s not engaged is the belt or the belt pulleys
sounds like the idler pulley. Take the belt cover off and have a look.
Can't beat a Toro!
will the toro 721 work on the end of driveway stuff that the plow leaves behind?
Yes.
Sometimes it is a little too much for it to handle, especially the hard packed hip high stuff.

how much
Why are you disengaging the auger every time you pull the machine backwards or turn the chute ? You'll wear out the belt quicker doing that.

Cha Ching money to my ears! Beast Mode!!!
TORO simple to operate do's a great job without draining your wallet $$
how/ that make great machines. Mostly the owners that are ignorant and do not use fresh fuel or do maintenance, then blame it on the manufacture
You have to push that? Get a real one
Maybe your boyfriend could push it for you.
Be surprised how many companies use these for commercial snow removal...which says something
@@spike-- 👍😂
Damn🙌 Waiting for mine.
