      Back when Hollywood used to make "fun" movies. It's sad that I have to describe "fun" as a genre now. It's devastating to see what we've become over the past decade. It's probably the issue of pleasing the international market, especially China. If you really think about it, movies have been referencing less and less of American/Western Culture and more and more of a generic culture that can help all sorts of audiences relate with the film. But this strategy hurts the film by not making it a cultural thing of America which in turn robs the chance of the movie being a pride of American Achievement.

    The three leads are a key to the first two films being awesome, but you can't dismiss Oded Fehr either. Granted he's primarily tied to Egypt and those mummies, but still would be nice to see him with the gang again too. I've loved his recent work on Star Trek Discovery and think he would be a welcomed returning character if the stars aligned to make a 4th Mummy movie happen.

    I think it would be cool to bring Rick back as someone fit for his age, but still severely injured from countless mummy fighting. To compensate, he studies spellcasting and curse reading similar to Evelyn’s, even occasionally having the ability to conjure fire or shields. The movie can put Rick in a situation where HE has to read instead of punch, or have a moment where he struggles to believe what he say WILL summon the intended curse. Rick unleashing a wave of sand against a bunch of Mummies and going “How you like it NOW!?”
    And since Evelyn has weapon fighting literally in her character lineage, it would be appropriate to have her and Jonathan (maybe Alex if they keep Mummy 2 canon) handle most of the physical fighting. Rick still has his firearms obviously.

I could see them in war torn Europe battling a descendant of Victor Frankenstein. Who the Nazis were only too glad fund his research in bringing the dead back to life. Along with Frankensteins' monstrous creations. They also encounter an enigmatic figure. A Romanian nobleman who's there to also stop the Nazi scientist's experiments, and destroy his creations. This Transylvanian Count becomes involved due to the Nazis rounding up the Gypsies who are loyal to him,and sending them to the Doctor's tender mercies. Honor demands retribution. ALways thought this would've been a good way to dust off the Universal Monsters' toybox.

      @moserfugger6363 Рік тому +1

      @@matthewdaley746 That's your version of the story. Many directors have flops, but it doesn't stop their career. If they don't get big movies anymore, they at least continue doing directing work for television (like Simon West etc.). The fact that Sommers hasn't done *anything* for that many years now, isn't simply explainable by the G.I. Joe "flop" (which wasn't even a huge flop; did very well on home video and the studio continued it with a sequel and spin-off). There must have happened something else - so yeah, it would be really interesting to delve into the question: WTF happened to Stephen Sommers?

      @@matthewdaley746 We really don't know if it had anything to do with Con Air. Those are just assumptions. We have no official facts to base it on.
      We all should know by now that Hollywood doesn't play by fair rules. It's a very corrupt industry lead by often pretty disgusting people. People who love demonstrating their power.
      So if you step on somebody's toes who has a very fragile ego, your career might suddenly be over.
      With Stephen Sommers another reason could also be that he was a director that took many risks with dangerous stunts etc... Like the video pointed out, Fraser got hurt many times during production. Perhaps Sommers just went too far with his risky directing style and some big names didn't want to work with him anymore. Perhaps there were complaints piling up from actors/crew who feared for their health while working with him.
      Yeah, those are also just assumptions. But not less valid than yours. ;) And don't get me wrong: I'm a big fan of Stephen Sommers. I'm not saying he did anything bad. His directing style just seems to be more oldschool. Just like me he loves classic action scenes with real stunts, where the audience can feel the danger.
      I hope he'll come back, but it's highly unelikely at that point. Hollywood sadly has changed a lot since he made his last movies. Directors like Sommers aren't compatible with modern Hollywood anymore. That's why guys like Simon West and Chuck Russel are going to China, where they still can make the kind of entertainment they love.

      I don't know why you are so fixated on this weak argument. Everbody who knows how to do research can prove you wrong in a few seconds. Getting a prestige movie like "The General's Daughter" and being hired to direct an expensive new franchise starter like "Tomb Raider" does clearly show that "Con Air" didn't destroy West's career.
      Nobody cares if you like the movie or not. Using your personal taste as an argument is absolutely ridiculous.
      Yes, Simon West's career took a nosedive at some point. But not for the reason you're stating. He even directed "The Expendables 2" some years later. People are thinking that because G.I. Joe didn't do that well. I don't believe, that's the real reason.
    Greetings from Germany! :=)

      Some additional thoughts:
      Greetings from Germany :)

    The 4th movie should be set in outer space. And have Mike Tyson as Brendan Fraser's sidekick. And have Jerry Seinfeld as the main antagonist.

    All 3 Mummy movies are equally great to me but The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is a little higher for me cause it introduced me to the legendary Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh I do hope Universal considers bringing back The Mummy 4 with the OG cast

    Hated the 3rd movie due to it not being set in Egypt and hated that they replaced Rachel Weiz and also couldn’t stand the son Alex, would be nice if there was a 4th with the original cast back in Egypt

    Haven't watched yet, will do when I'm off work. Let's be real though, for as bad as the 3rd one was, the real reason is: they beat the shit out of Brendan Fraiser, almost killed him, and took advantage of him. He had serious injuries by the time the second one was completed, it's a wonder he even did a 3rd, let alone a 4th. The poor man has life long injuries from this franchise. Hollywood chewed him up, spit him out, and couldn't care less.

    the reason he said he would do another mummy movie if the right script came along is a hint to the fact he is out of weight and has health issues so he wouldn't fit his old role rick o'connell, which is why he drops the comment when the right script comes along

    Pitch:
    Let's go to mexico and have some aztec mummies. Brendan can play an older O'Conell who plays a mentor role to some younger athletic hero (his son). But here's the best part. Brendan should direct it. If he wants. Or get executive to make sure the tone is right.

      @@Peer165 Because he has a gift for story telling and it would be natural transition as many actors, with age tend to take director seat.

    I have just accepted that they, current hollywood, will never ever make movies like they used to ever again. They care more about relying on cgi as their crutch, not on good writing and their marketing is very divisive and antagonistic towards their audiences in the last decade, not to mention they prioritise shoving their personal current political messaging as the main theme in their content, not escapism.
    I instead have just enjoyed myself going through classic movies of the previous century.

    I gave the third Mummy a chance when I saw that Rachel Weisz was not in it. Was I ever disappointed. Not having her in it drained a lot of the chemistry, charm and charisma from the movie. You could tell the acting was forced and there was no flow. Universal should have waited patiently. Production companies should learn from this (laughing knowing they never will). They always wonder why the franchise flops and sometimes blame the audience. Nope, it was the production companies all along.
    Had Universal started the horror reboots with another monster than the Mummy they might have done better. The 1999 Mummy series was still very fresh in our minds, making it hard for many to accept Tom Cruise's the Mummy. Such a forgettable movie... Only way I remember it is when a UA-cam channel brings it up.

    Tomb shouldnt have ever been made when i think of THE MUMMY i think of the 4 main heroes, the villain imohtep and the country of egypt. Thats what defined the films! It just doesnt feel like MUMMY is an appropriate title without those things. And tomb cut it in half by ditching weiz, fehr, vosloo and egypt
    If weiz was in her role in tomb it might have been easier to stomach or if fehr was still in it somehow. Its just lacking without all those things. Im glad a 4th wasnt made, for me it all stopped at returns

      Agree, same totally still wouldn’t be same to me without Weisz and this what it said Fehr declined because Imhotep was not to be in the film, and had felt that if there was no Imhotep, then Ardeth Bay had no point or reason to appear in the movie. 💩💩
