Comedy wise 8/10 had its good moments, quality laughs, setups were a tad longer that they needed to be, but solid punchlines

I've watched umpteen videos on this by now (not sure why it took me so long to see this one), and I'd still not fully realized the hypocrisy of that statement. Chappelle will further help "normalize" anti-woke comedy. The same approach was used to push back against militant evangelicals a few decades ago but if we're being honest fringe groups like these will inevitably become a parody of themselves and provide the smart comedians material that essentially writes itself.
He WAS definitely punching up since it is predominately the white liberal rich who have time to dwell on their feelings while poor people have to be in REAL survival mode most of the time. Chappelle has given multiple reasons for his departure, i actually dont know much about contract disputes.. but i do know he said that two major factors were:
1. He was offered too much money and felt that taking the deal was some sort of compromise to his soul. He said his father told him to " name his price" to himself, and that Dave would need to know where to draw the line.
2. He felt his racial jokes were becoming more a promotion of racial stereotypes, and not so much a deconstruction of them and he didnt want to be someone who contributed to any of that negativity.
He sounded pretty anti white in his latest new show.

That is something Chapelle doesn't understand. He said Trump is just singing "poor white peoples greatest hits" not realizing the reason people like Trump is for the same reason they like him. Also, being poor once himself, you think he would have some sympathy or insight into the plight of poor whites, but "he doesn't give a fuck, in the same way whites didn't give a fuck about blacks suffering from crack addiction in the 80's".
