Alan Tudyk is one of the most Underrated actors of this generation. This dude is such an amazing actor, he's a total chameleon. Not only does he do amazing live-action work, but he's a versatile voice-actor as well. Definitely a tremendous talent.
Absolutely agree. And such a breadth of acting. Everything from sentient robots, to literally providing the sound effects for a chicken. Most actors would find a role doing nothing but making chicken noises to be completely beneath them - but not Alan Tudyk! I knew him from Firefly and his Disney voice work, but never realized he was Sonny as well until recently.
The beauty of motion capture is it embodies someone's essence and performance in a digital character, giving that character a soulfulness and personality that would otherwise be nonexistent.
I love what we can do with movies these days. But when the voice actor can also be the puppeteer it makes it so much better. While we saw Sonny, it was still all Alan.
The green Chromakey suits make it much easier for the actors and crew. Better than trying to act to a tennis ball on a stick. The same technique was used in "Forrest Gump" to remove Lt. Dan's legs on Gary Sinese (I think they used blue in that case)...
Gotta say, don't like the green suits... BUT I do like the new tracking suites like in chappie and motion capture suits. I have no idea why but I do. Makes me feel cool to where that stuff. Anybody feel the same? No?
Chroma keying is basically where a computer will remove a certain colour from some footage, to be replaced with something else. A good example is a TV weather report, where the reporter stands in front of a green or blue wall, and through chroma keying, the background is replaced with the animated map you see on TV. The reason green (and blue) are used are because they are the furthest colours from human skin. Of course, any vibrant colour can be used, but it depends on the situation. The use of the green suit in this movie is much more complex than that. They are using a combination of both the green suit (analog) and motion capture suit (digital) to achieve the effect.
they could have him wear any color that stands out from the background, so that the computer can pick it up easier. they proboably used that footage as a reference when animating the face, much like they did with gollum in the two towers and return of the King.

why do they get him in green suit
It's green screen so that they can use the computer to replace his body with Sonny's.
MrFlibberGibbet is green the only colour a computer can pick up .. sorry for my ignorance
