I don't think it was intended as a burn at all. Sonny has a childlike curiosity. Spooner was being 'racist' against robots. Sonny then innocently showed that he sees Spooner and other humans as an equal.
I respectfully disagree. Sonny showed later that he is very capable of sarcasm; when he is drawing his dream, he says to Spooner: "You were right, detective. I can not create a work of art." or something along those lines. Seems quite sarcastic to me.
That could have been Sonny being humble. Saying that he can draw, but he can't draw a masterpiece. It depends entirely on how you interpret it, and I don't think it fits Sonny's character at all for him to be sarcastic. Calvin spared Sonny because he was so innocent and child like.

I'm not a fan of a movie by any stretch but Alan Tudyk definitely deserves credit for his voice/motion capture work as Sonny. I can only imagine what he could have done with a better script.
I must've had a bad copy of this or something, the sound work in this scene is double-plus good! The soft whirs and whines of Sonny's movements, the stretching tension of his muscles banding tighter and tighter under stress until he craters the table in a rage before slacking almost immediately.. this is some good stuff for an already lovely scene~
I love how calm the four swat guys are in the back ground they don't even look at each other nervously they just act as if this shit was a common acurrence
A robot may be able to write a symphony or turn a canvas into a master piece, but until robots are capable of feeling emotions, only humans will truly be able to appreciate these things.
Seriously, read Isaac Asimov. In the book "Robot Dreams" there's a tale where Susan Calvin interviews LVX-1, this scene was "inspired" by this tale, it's just amazing how far ahead Asimov was when it comes to creativity and philosophy regarding AI
This was such and underrated movie. The ending where sonny is standing on the bridge they could have easily mad a bunch of sequels, but I feel because they didn’t it makes this movie even better.

yeah this movie shows that gen 1 and gen 2 snyths are dangerous that one day if the institute was to live those snyths would eventually try to elemantant humans
when you look back at the movie, it's so ahead of its time. Now we are on the brink of introducing AI. The robot picked up its consciousness. Great movie
you know i never really realized this, but the line where spooner's boss says he misses the days where people were killed by other people, people are actually already being killed by robots... they're called drones... -.-
the difference is, drones are still controlled by people, they have no intelligence, no intention to kill, they shoot a missile only because some soldier/pilot pressed a button, so technically people are still killed by people, but in a more advanced way with more advanced weapons
Alex Grey I understand you trying to distinguish consciousness from programming, I know that this movie is different in that respect. But drones do in fact fire autonomously. I've read articles about how they use algorithms (computer programs) with pixel-based reactions. The software detects a certain infra-red pixel combination, and it can trigger a firing response... with no human involved
there is always a human involved, who sends the drone on a mission, who gives the drone a target... the drone may do many things by itself, but the order to kill is given by a human... although we are not that far from the future some fear, with a robot army controlled by an AI who might go rogue... i do think its a huge mistake that the AI is developed primarily in military purposes, it's gonna backfire at us eventually. but for now drones are mindless machines, very advanced weapons and weapon carriers, but the one pulling the trigger (metaphorically speaking) is still a human, following orders from his superiors...
Filipe Ferro Drones, whether their level of automation is, are tools; as hammers, knives or guns are. Like guns, they are tools designed to kill, nothing more. There is no conscious decision on whether to kill a human or comprenhension of the whole act of killing itself. What the quote means is that regadless the tool, the intellectual perpetrator is always a human, who can consciously *choose* to end a life (for reasons other than survival), knowing and understand everything that implies. Choice is the keyword here and actually, the topic of the movie itself: machines capable of choice.

Time is relative afterall. Perhaps the gravity in the interrogation room was higher, making time pass more slowly, whilst outside 5 minutes have already passed. Or was it the other way around? Physics n shit are complicated Mkay...
Nah, Robertson jist wanted to interrupt

1:59 is easily the greatest comeback of all time.
Detroit become human but the older version, still awesome
The best compliment I can pay this film is, if they released it today, it would be just as outstanding.. that film was way ahead of its time..

How the fuck does this still look good. I know Sonny is a motion capture but there are effects in modern movies that don't look this convincing.

A robot may be able to write a symphony or turn a canvas into a master piece, but until robots are capable of feeling emotions, only humans will truly be able to appreciate these things.
"I guess we're gonna miss the good old days."

"The days when people were slapped by other people."
Asimov was a genius. The screenwriters did a great job of capturing Asimov's style and intentions in this movie.
" Can a human write a symphony in 3 seconds ? Can a human turn a canvas into a beautiful masterpiece in 3 seconds ? "

They don't make sequels of box office flops.

15 years MAX, look at the AI technology we have now, deep fakes, hell, even the youtube recommendations page, we're already teaching technology how to imitate humans so it's only a matter of time before these movies become reality
True A.i will probably take another 100 years most likely. But we'll have robots that will seem very real in the next 15 or so years
“y’all got any fun?” “we got abysmal dogshit”
Well, yes, AI can turn a canvas into a beautiful masterpiece now. Dall-E 2.0 or Midjourney AI allows them to create a piece of art with only using given prompts.
Underrated movie I think. Not perfect, but still quite good.

*Meanwhile AI in 2022-2023 already taking over*
when you look back at the movie, it's so ahead of its time. Now we are on the brink of introducing AI. The robot picked up its consciousness. Great movie
This reminds me so much of Detroit become human, when Connor questions the deviant. 28 STAB WOUNDS
you know i never really realized this, but the line where spooner's boss says he misses the days where people were killed by other people, people are actually already being killed by robots... they're called drones... -.-
the difference is, drones are still controlled by people, they have no intelligence, no intention to kill, they shoot a missile only because some soldier/pilot pressed a button, so technically people are still killed by people, but in a more advanced way with more advanced weapons
Filipe Ferro
Drones, whether their level of automation is, are tools; as hammers, knives or guns are.
I think this movie was under rated.
