- The Marshall JVM410H is a High Gain Monster! Today I will Review & Demo several channels on the Marshall JVM 410H. I will talk about the JVM410H and JVM410HJS Joe Satriani version and some of the visible differences. The Demo is done with a Gibson Les Paul Standard 1960. The combination of a Marshall JVM410H with Monster High Gain and a solid Gibson Les Paul Standard, is a sweet recipe of sound :-)

I like your conversational style, it makes a nice change from some reviews that are more marketing
The JVM410h is a great amp. But there are some fundamental mistakes that people make with them. 1. Put resonance and presence on max, thank me later. 2. Pull up the volume and back down the gain a bit on all the channels, it compresses a bit less and feels more open with a bit of less gain. Normally people use too much gain and it feels overly compressed and noisy. 3. If possible use it with two greenbacks and two v30's, that combination really suits the amp. 4. Get a good tech to install a real choke in the amp, it lowers the noisefloor and gives it a little something extra sound-wise. It sounds incredible after these things.
I see mistakes in your own suggestions.
I'm hypnotized by your voice.
LMAO! I have a friend that says my voice is like that. Whenever we order out (he used to be a roommate) he would make me call and order because of my voice and they way I talk to people. But I am glad you liked it
I modded my foot switch, fitted large LEDs above each switch that change colour with the modes, but I don't use it anymore, my days of lugging massive heavy heads and cabs is over, I use a Boss katana 100 combo now, ok it's not up there sonically with the JVM, but it does a very good job for what I do now, and I fits on the backseat of the car and I can carry it in one hand
I just got a 10 year old 410h for $1300 (after shipping). I was running it through an old MkIIC Boogie cab with 2 Celestions and 2 EV's. Just wasn't happy with it. Ended up getting a 1960 cabinet with Greenbacks. That helped, but it still wasn't there. I started considering doing all the mods, but I was worried about spending even more $ on it after what I'd already invested.
I was just about ready to flip it, when one day I decided to to plug in a $30 Behringer EQ into it, and holy ____! That's the key. This amp has a nasty boost around 1.6 to about 2Khz's. I pulled 1.8 completely out, and suddenly this amp sounds like god. Everything really smooths out, and I'm happier than a pig in poop now.
So if you're in the same boat - just try an EQ. Could not believe taking out one nasty frequency could make such a huge difference...
I love my DSL, but my next Marshall will be a JVM combo. I'm a combo guy. I used to play stacks but got into combos for a number of reasons. But yeah, that stack sounds fantastic! Glorious gain! Love that Marshall crunch, the best.
I was very fortunate to get this head just yesterday. I got it used for $1000 bucks. Only minor issue is it has a loose power switch
Looks and sounds so good, but kind of overkill for me, price and size wise. Looking at a smaller marshall rn, but definitely want to get a jvm410h at some point.
Thanks for the video
I love this head . I use it while I teach guitar lessons . It’s phenomenal at low volume. It’s great loud but my favorite at quiet level too . I have wizards and Diezels and stuff and it hangs
This is a great amplifier, the versatility is unmatched! It is a gain monster so there is a learning curve to get things dialed in without using a noise gate, depending on the guitar pickups. If you play a variety of guitars it's easier to just keep a gate in the effects loop. My late model Strat was too noisy if I didn't roll back the guitar volume, but then I lost the tone on OD1&2 on orange/red mode if I had the gain past noon.
These amps sound great. If I ever find one for 1k or less I will have to purchase.
@Anxious Nation Believe it or not, I have been able to find them used on FB marketplace for about 1k. Even found one a few weeks ago for $900 near me. Best of luck!
That´s a great video keep doing it
Thanks! I have been busy building a guitar for the #greatguitarbuildoff2020 so haven't been able to do reviews. I just got in some great gear that I am waiting to show and review!
Does the Pickups on the les Paul are burstbuckers?
Buying this soon should I pair it with a 1960bv or 1960bhw 4x12 cabinet?
Hi.. I have this head, but don't have a cabinet. What cabinet is best suited for this head? is it 1960 vintage or 1936 vintage? if there are others better, can you share with me...? thanks...
The amp's got a fair bit of electronic interference in the quiet parts of when you're playing. Are these amps quite noisy?
I get more usable tones out of it than from my Mark V. The presence and resonance are tricky though. I always keep them low or off to avoid sounding hollow.
Mundanus, I do the same with the Presence and Res as well. I can get some real killer tone out of this head! Surprised more people don't say the same.
WinterGuitars Not many ppl will ever bother to go deep with the settings, but JVM is one of those amps that requires tweaking. It's not a plexi where you plug in and play and it always sounds like a plexi. JVM offers modern high gain and crystal cleans and everything in between. It's not for the purists.
Tried the Mark V a few times, even with EL34s and still, nope.
Great vid.
How is the 410 at lower volumes
The best amp ever :-)
So you prefer the Satriani model or are they just different?
Satriani version sounds closer to the 30th anniversary model they get loved . It’s just eq different
How does it sound at a bedroom volume? Is it possible to play through the setup like yours (amp+4x12 cab) in a small appartment without any problems with police and still have a good hi-gain sound? :) Or it's better to use loadbox and IRs?
Dude I’ll answer thus for you . I believe it’s the best bedroom level head ever . I use it to teach in my lessons because it sounds incredible quiet.
I have the combo and i play it in my living room while the wife watches tv and it’s amazing at low levels.
@@techdeathhippie6319 Thanks a lot! I'm starting to save money for this amp!
@@spleantrampoline Thanks!
@@UltraDrumAddict yw . I use it daily at lessons . It’s actually my my favorite bed room amp . Of course it loud if needed . The knobs do a lot on this . Channel 4 with gain on just 2 but volume loud gets jcm800 tones fr . Strange gains on 2 but this amps got too much gain after 5 lol
I have the same thing but am I the only one who has a loud blizzard noise when I'm.on OD1 and 2? very annoying. I dint have a noise gate but I used the MXR on it one time almost to the max, kinda took my dynamics away
@ChrisBarkerLeadGuitar One thing to look at is the knobs/pots. Are they scratchy when you turn them up/down? Could use a good cleanup. A noise gate would be cool, but it sounds like you have something else going on there bud!
Nothing noisy, tubes measure good, but the next closest person who has the same rig lives 5 hours away...😐
I agree ,have a used one I pickup year ago. Most versatile amp and great tone ,always finding new sounds. Have some mullards for tube .Tone bliss🎸😎
Oh I know it! I love mine and have to always have one now 😁
@@WinterGuitars wonderful tones, its like a palette, and I can get all my squaks sequels ,pitch harmonic . digital reverbs even good.mines an od on,2007,think I might have to get another :-0
@@pwnEdge1 I had a 2007 as well! I am telling you the best one I had was a 2017 410HJS the Joe Satriani version. It is a much better version and even feels higher quality.
@@WinterGuitars yea been looking ,not made any more and all the one’s I see for sale ,too much🙁
