A lot of those cocoons looked like old hatched ones. I wouldn’t recommend selling castings that have already had a lot of their nutrients taken out by the initial water soak either. Neat idea though for someone who isn’t selling.
agreed, dont sell those castings it just seems wrong. i dont mind losing some cocoons my bins all already max capable and they will just self regulate. but if i startin new bins i might have to give this a shot to seperate worms and cocoons.
I like the sifter idea, but could you scale it up to the large mortar tray? What size hardware cloth do you use? Is there any maintenance that needs to be done for the offset wheels or bottom? I used to build the large mortar tray version but it was too expensive to ship due to size. As long as you use hardwood for the rollers(which I do), it's like a wood bearing and will last years. The cloth typically comes in large rolls so it's expensive to first purchase. Some places will cut to length though.
