"Doc's behavior has been odd this patrol. Seems to be stumbling around the U-boat, and his hands are shaky. Must be the stress." --from the war diary of KptLt Blitz, Dec 1939
Slowly working through your older videos. I love this game....I have 2 copies of "The Hunters" and 2 copies of "The Hunted".....I wore my first copy of "the hunters" out (Didnt help I spilled a drink on one of the mats (Traumatic) ) Anyway, its fun to watch others play the game, and yours are entertaining. This game and "Target for Tonight" are my favs. 20th Airforce is also a brilliant solo game as well that I am playing as I type this. (I also have the 8th Airforce game by the same company, but haven't played it yet.)
Thanks for the kind words and I can totally understand how someone could wear out The Hunters. Especially if you try to submerge the game in beverages. ;) I'll have to push Target for Tonight to the top of the list, and I've checked out 20th Air Force now as well. That looks quite interesting. Tempting, really. Thanks for stopping in!
Much better than the first patrol! A bit uneventful perhaps, but that's just how conventional warfare usually goes, hours of boredom interspersed by a few minutes of pure terror; and this simulates that feeling very well (atleast this non-combatant thinks so) without tedious execution. Great job! Already looking forward to the next patrol. 👍
I thought we were in trouble when the aircraft spotted us laying mines, but the crew performed admirably got us underwater fast. Yeah, certainly not a nerve-wracking as our first patrol, but like you say, a nice uneventful mission isn't a bad thing when it comes to U-Boats! :) We're refitting for February, should be a few days and it'll be out. :)
Thanks for these videos. The game becomes more exciting in further video episodes (e.g. Malaya hunt), but it's too much dice rolling with nearly no agency. Every decision is followed by a long handful of dice rolling... I wish there were optional rules to increase agency?... Thoughts?...
I actually find the amount of player agency to be much higher in the game than I expected given what some people had told me. Most definitely, though, there are segments of the game where you are on rails, and once you make your initial decision you've got a stretch where the fates determine what happens. I can certainly see people not liking the game because they want more decisions.
I think 50k tons is the line we need to cross to avoid "defeat", so we have a ways to go. Those mines were nice for an easy successful patrol, but we came up light on the tonnage. Need another TANKER. :)
Thanks, Peter! I'm enjoying playing quite a bit. No idea how long the campaign will last, I feel like to a degree we're at the mercy of Dice Roll Gods. We'll see how long we make it. :)
When the campaign series is over I'm thinking I'll do a review. If you are looking to buy but can't find it, I know that Enterprise Games had a couple of copies left as of last week. Small company that I've ordered from a couple of times now, with both orders going well.
That is a bit odd, isn't it? Especially when you consider we hit an unescorted 11k-ton tanker in September. Why the escort on something so small? Hmmm. Mystery abounds. Thanks for stopping in, Custard!
Yes, that's a good point. I would think perspective matters here quite a lot. Not the greatest patrol for the freighter. I'm guessing they'll be a decent number of patrols like this, where things are relatively safe for us, then all of a sudden things will get really bad. I feel like the game does a good job of capturing how quickly things can go from "we're really safe" to "oh no".
@@ZillaBlitz Yeah, I mean, theoretically something bad could happen on every single dice roll. If you got really bad luck, your U-Boot could go very quickly
I'm sorry you had to remove the swastika and mention that. Anybody who takes that for anything but historical context in a video like this needs educating. It's a shame things have come to this in our day and age. Videos of your solo play through on this are oddly compelling. I find myself rooting for a U-Boat which is really weird. The good part is this is cardboard and dice and nobody is getting hurt. Thank you for doing these!
Hi Zilla. Completely understand why video 1 needed fixing. Looks like I was one of volunteers that didnt get brought into the new crew. I have now satisfactorily re done my basic training and now ready for duty sir!
Aha! Glad you made it back! Sorry about the mess up when I deleted the comments before recording names, and thanks for understanding. I'll slot you into the #2 spot in the waiting list! As soon as I saw your name, I remembered it. Glad you've completed your basic training and are ready to go!
0:24 Apologizing for a historically accurate image? An image you had nothing to do with? Because you felt uncomfortable? If an image makes you feel "uncomfortable" to the point that you have to apologize to anonymous people on the interwebz, maybe you should play Candyland instead of WWII wargames. What are you afraid of? Being cancelled and attacked? Unsubbed.
It’s a no win, you leave the image and you will have some who are offended. Remove the image and you will have others who will be offended. Certain people like living their lives being offended about one thing or another. It’s your channel and your video, you do it the way you want. Oh, will do, thanks!
Great quick view at how the game plays! I saw the camera shake as battle effects!
Thanks! And ha! Yes, um, cough cough, the camera shake was totally intentional. 😉

Seems like your submarine must be painted like bright red. Aircraft seem to spot it at will.
It's amazing how scary those plane attacks can be. You think you're home and then all hell breaks loose. :)

Actually that was really exciting with plenty going on! You're racking up the tonnage now. Brilliant patrol!

Excellent work, Herr Kapitanleutnant. A most impressive start to your U-boot career.
Thanks! I get a sense that the line between "things are going really well" and "boom, you're dead" in this game is razor thin. :)
A nice surprise to see this mission posted. A good result - looking forward to the next one.

That was pretty successful. Makes you wonder why such a weedy ship was being escorted, what did they have on board?!

Great video!
Thanks reptar!
Second watch performed well, sir
Good work, Officer Rae! The men did well. I thought things might go sideways when we got ambushed laying the mines, but it all worked out. :)
Well done
Thanks, Wayne!
That seems to have been a rather calm mission this time. At least for you, not for that freighter. They were not happy, I would assume

History is History, whether good or bad; revisionist History is just wrong; this is why we keep making the same mistakes over and over
Excellent point!
