    Wow, that was definitely a lucky career, wasn't it! I'm not sure if it really was because of the maps, but you can discover it easily by blessing us with another video in the future (maybe try a Type IX, this time?) and see if it was instead the grilled ribs who protected you...
    Jokes apart, nice to know that you've enjoyed the mod, and thank you for showing it in action! Also, "Deluxe Edition" - that's very flattering, I would have never dared to call it as such myself ;-)
    You also made very few mistakes, as far as I could see, and they were all pretty minor (a couple of them were even detrimental for you). That's impressive, as I would challenge ANYONE not to make at least some mistakes in the course of a long session like this in a game which has lots of small details which can easily slip away. Add to this the fact that you were also recording, so you had to be concentrating on what you were saying in addition to keeping track of the maps, charts etc. Well done!
    As my only, minor gameplay style complaint, I'll note that you could have at least identified the ships in the 6 (!) convoys you spotted in your two last Arctic patrols, as you might well have found the Empress of Britain in one of them... actually, I think it would have been very likely, given the "Hals und Beinbruch on steroids" career you had!
    Now, if you don't mind, I might still write a list of things worth mentioning, only a fraction of which are errors... there are also miscellanea, like e.g. questions or rules where you actually got me instead :-) . So:
    41:47 You inverted the dice result: the correct one (19) would have yielded the 12.000 t Saranac tanker!
    1:47:26 Yes, exactly ;-) . As you correctly noted, it really doesn't matter that much - however, my rationale for drawing the dotted lines was that red ones connect a Transit Box/War Patrol Zone to a War Patrol Zone, whereas grey lines connect Ports/Transit Boxes/War Patrol Zones to Ports/Transit Boxes (so, in short: red lines take you into battle).
    1:58:59 That had me literally laugh out loud XD
    2:06:34 Actually, that's 10.000 t more, enough to award you a Knight's Cross! You got it at the end of the next patrol, however, so this small oversight didn't change much really.
    2:11:22 The 1942/1943 negative modifier does not apply for Special Missions, only Bay of Biscay (but you rolled a "10", so it wouldn't have changed the outcome anyway).
    2:35:22 You don't need to roll for time of day when following damaged ships!
    2:48:17 You would have had an additional +1 on the promotion die roll because you sunk 10 ships in the required time frame; still, as you rolled a "6", once again nothing would have changed.
    2:50:13 This is actually more of a question... you skipped the next patrol box (due to the "Weather report" event) as no encounters could occur. I wonder, however... what about aircraft? Shouldn't it be more correct to roll the dice anyway and ignore all but a "12", in the current case? Or maybe it's meant to be not too punishing for the player (no ships, but also no aircraft)?
    2:57:56 Ha! I always thought that types VIIC Flak and VIID only needed a 1-2 roll when requesting a newer boat, and that the "U-Boat Upgrade" token was automatically awarded whenever the player received a medal. I was completely wrong, it seems... and that makes much more sense, as the way you did it (which is the correct one) makes it a lot harder to get one of those two boats, as it should be historically.
    Just note that you rolled for taking command of a Type VIIC Flak in March 1943, but that boat becomes available only in May (you failed the roll so it didn't matter anyway)... but this gives me the chance to make a suggestion: you could do a veeery quick career with the Type VIIC Flak (just one patrol, in May '43) to show at least its mat, as that sub has some interesting differences when compared to the other Type VII boats (especially in its conning tower) :-)

      Hey Mike! Thanks for the add-ons and thanks for taking time to watch the whole career 😌 About the last Convoys, I can tell you there is a big reason why I did not identify them. I know myself to well, and I know that I would not have been able to resist attacking suck a delicious target. And 90% chance I would be sunk in 1943 🙈 Thanks for all the time stamps! I hope to do at least one full career without any misstakes. That would be cool 🤠 The future will tell! Stay tuned 😎

It makes - did I sink this one already? - easier to find. I also roll the three D6 for the Torpedo shots with the dud then being seen without an additional toss.

    My last game, I made it to the end, sunk 2 capital ships, got the KC with O,S,D I didn't make the top rank as I'd started on the lowest, had an elite crew, sunk over 300,000 tons of shipping, did get a serious wound and needed 5 months off. The think is, where do you go from here. I don't think I can better that. So back to ASL for a while and a dash of Atlantic chase which I'm struggling a bit with.

    Just a small tip, I always try and roll to see if the U-Boat Kommandant can chose his assignment. Before promotions it's very rare as you need a one on a d6. But you don't lose anything by doing it and you can choose more lucrative assignments (or less dangerous) this way.

      You're allowed to fire all systems before having to reload and roll for an additional round of combat. I don't think I fail to sink any unescorted ships within the first round of combat in this career?

    • @brettlynam5048
      @brettlynam5048 3 роки тому

      Are you sure about that? I read it as say8n* you had to decide everything you were firing in that round ahead of time and, if you failed yo sink the ship, you then had to do a second round of combat.

      @@brettlynam5048 Page #11, Rule [9.4] - UNESCORTED SHIP TARGETS: You may fire one weapon type (Forward Torpedo, Aft Torpedo, or Deck Gun) and see the result before
      firing the next type. You may fire the weapons in
      any order.
      When you conduct combat against escorted ships, you have to decide what to fire and how much to fire, before you start firing. But we don't have to do that against ships without escort. We do however have to decided how much to fire with each system before firing. We can't for example fire 1 shot with the deck gun, and then 1 more. We have to commit to either firing 1 or 2, before firing the deck gun. The same goes for the aft and forward torpedoes, but unlike combat against escorted ships, we don't have to commit the number of shots/torpedoes until we're about to fire that specific system.

    Daniel, though technically not an "error" the flow chart states that you change from day to night AFTER identifying your targets. I think that the designer did this purposely to add to the frustration of the commander which adds to the narrative. I assume that you do it differently because of the video. Nevertheless I'm Thoroughly enjoy your presentation of this outstanding game.

    • @WW2SolitaireBoardGameChannel
      @WW2SolitaireBoardGameChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much Michael! Yes that is correct, however since I only engage ships during the night, I do this to save time for myself and the viewers. The same for convoys, the rules states that I should record every identified ship. I don't even identify small freighters in convoys because I don't waste my time with them 🙈

    Great video, but I spot a issue with some of your detection rolls. You added the year modifiers to your detections for 1941 and 1942, but these only apply when you are at close range not medium or long. This is noted by the word 'Close' on the right side of the year modifiers.

    • @WW2SolitaireBoardGameChannel
      @WW2SolitaireBoardGameChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Sorry my friend but I think you're wrong. The reason it says "Close" on the right side is because these are the only die roll modifiers that you will use BEFORE engaging in close combat. As you know you will then roll again, after the attack, and then those die roll modifiers should be used again together with any other eligible die roll modifier. Sorry, this game is a hard one!
