To anyone it may help, I had the Samsung 980 Pro for about 3 years (purchased it a short time after launch). The 980 Pro 1TB uses MLC while all the others use TLC so reliability is much better with a 1TB 980 Pro vs 2TB+ 980 Pro or WD SN850x
Nope. 980 Pro uses TLC. Last MLC (2-bit) consumer drive Samsung made was 970 Pro. 3-bit is always TLC. Samsung has been misleading with marketing, as they have called their TLC 3-bit MLC and their QLC 4-bit MLC. Its just misleading marketing.
@@teemuvesala9575 thanks for clarifying that for me, that's pretty shady from Samsung
@@lastsplash6 Well, Samsung is simply using different terminology than rest of the industry, which is indeed wrong cause it misleads consumers. At the end though I trust Samsung drives more than others hardware wise, due to them manufacturing everything themselves.
Ive had a tod of wd failure and never a samsung or seagate. I'll never choose another wd
what is everyone's opinion? 2TB WD SN850x For $208 or 2TB Smasung 980 pro for $180?
those prices are lower than what i am seeing 11 days later
sn850x $229.99 and 980 PRO $219.99. without heatsinks
Now it's 173 for the 2tb 980 pro vs 229 for the 850x 2tb. Hard choice 🤔
@@JorgeAlarconLwhere are you seeing that price for the 980 pro?
@@JorgeAlarconL now 850x is 179
@@FrankAtwoodSrcheck the 980 price WITH a heat sink.. Best Buy has it for $199 with a heat sink and $219 without one.. doesn’t make sense but 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Hi, first of all, good video. I would like you to answer the following: Which WD Black SN850X should I buy, with or without a heatsink?
As of right now the w/ heatsink is only $10 more expensive at $133 for holiday sale.
Since the z790 asus prime has heatsinks, do I need the 850x with a heatsink?
What an extremely stupid question.
okay so dumb question but will 2x WD Black SN850X 4TB work through a sabrent TB dual nvme enclosure?
Yes
Has anyone tested the 4tb SN850X on the PS5?
What a Question ?, I buy only a Samsung. I don't need a Heating
Hi. I had the Samsung 970 evo and it failed after a few months, replaced it with a new 970 and it failed less than a year of owning it. Thinking about replacing it with the 850x or wait for the 990?
I haven't had any SSD failing on me and I had plenty. Is there perhaps anything you did or any condition with your setup to cause the fails?
@@thepowerlies Maybe lack of cooling?
@@thepowerlies a 2.5" PNY SSD died on me after a couple years of very moderate use back around 2016 or so. I replaced it with the latest Samsung EVO at the time
Picked up a pair of 980 Pro 2TB's at $230 each. Performance difference be damned.
Ich habe Bedenken wegen der Hitze Entwicklung bei der WD
Anybody know how good the 850x works in an m1 mac mini with tb3 enclosure Fledging or ACASIS???
I have put all my games on my ssd Samsung 980 pro i thought it would take the stress away from the ps5 like its running the games graffics on a almost full memory i think by useing the ssd to play the games from gives the ps5 less work to do am i wrong lol
I have the 980 pro and sn850x 1tb models.
Can't tell the difference in boot or load times for games, but the 980 pro compresses files slightly better upon initial download.
Gonna be scoring a 990 Pro 1tb monster soon.
i have both also, and what he saying is right you wont be able to see a difference in gaming, but if you put them both a pc and test them the sn850x beats out the samsung 980 pro in almost every other area. when your doing pc stuff with it.
@@delanescott7872 Sorry, no.
I'm lucky these 2 are about the same price rn. WD it is babyyy 😋 (thanks for the review!)
I'd like you to hire you for a small task, 3$ to post one or two comments on youtube.

In Denmark, the 850x 2tb was 340$ it is 240$ on black friday.. just got one
Dam. It was 180 in the states.
@@master_baiter1873 we have a lot of weird taxes on PC stuff, so it was a really good deal
Western is always right. So WD. Also the company doesn't pay trolls to insult others companies users .
I have the 2tb 990 pro and it’s taking an hour to download Spider-Man 2 on ps5.
😆
Samsung has bad durability for me
Seagate is Samsung (right?), and Seagate drives have let me down twice in the past. WD on the other hand never have. These were on HDDs though. The importance of reliability can't be overstated.
Upon watching other videos on this subject, the Samsung 980 is rated much higher on durability and running cooler than the WD 🤔
So what the hell are we supposed to do? 10:15
How do i know if it has a heatsink. I just got the 1TB for my PS5 and If it comes with one cool otherwise i keep hearing that its optional lol
It should say “with heatsink” when you bought it lol and with the PS5 I think it’s necessary
@@wtfdamnshit I had to return the one i got on Amazon. The one with the heatsink is a ridged cover and not thin. It was literally 10 bucks more. I just didn't see it until later
Do you recommend sn850x with
Thermal Grizzly?? For ps5
wat happened to sound
980 pro have AES hardware encription. Great value if need that
They cost the same for me so I'm getting the sn850x
I just got 980 pro 1tb for £93, seemed like a fair deal
It s £68 now on amazon

So for the PS5 the Samsung wins!
850x. Nuff said.

Here the prices are stupid 😂 i can get 850x cheaper then 850 thats without heat sink
In the end i went with 1tb gammix blade s70 it with 8$ heat sink cost me 120$

Got the Samsung 980 pro 2 tb only had it for a month and it died fffff Samsung stay away from them
Bro, you have so much expensive hardware, cant you sell couple SSD's or a NAS and get yourself a 4K camera?!

WD utter Trash would not install in 2 x different pc ! would not show up in Disk management ! Samsung pro 980 installed right away with no issues ! MSI Motherboard
From a gaming point of VIEW you are 100% never going to notice the difference with these m2 drives ! Both super fast in that department.
Would still take samsung because their nand is the highest quality. Always buy samsung ram I feel it has a solid reputation of just being higher quality.
