I was only 8 during the World Cup ‘94, so, my memories are vague but, I’ll never forget a neighbour bringing her big (fat back) telly out onto the field across from us when played against Italy, had to use about 3 or 4 extension leads just to make it reach, but there was somewhere between 50 to 100 of us, all watching the match on that field on that great sunny day in Ballyfermot! Adults with their beer, kids with their sweets and lemonades, after the win we’re just kept singing ‘Ole Ole Ole’ over and over again! We were all part of Jackies army!! Go fishin Jack! RIP!

You have every right to call him an Irish legend. A working class Geordie lad who fell in love with Ireland and its people and became an honorary Irish citizen. Something he was extremely proud of. His humble background was no different to any other working class lad who followed Irish football and I think they knew that and that’s why they saw him as one of their own. Rest now Jackie boy. When I was a boy in Dublin I'd watch the World Cups and think how amazing it would be if Ireland could ever play in one. I thought it'd never happen, until big Jack took over. It was a great time to be Irish in early 1990, knowing we were going to finally take part in a World Cup, the whole country was lit up with anticipation. And it was beyond amazing when the competition began, it was complete hysteria, nothing else mattered but Ireland in the World Cup, nobody wanted it to end. RIP Jack, thanks for giving me some of the finest days of my life.
